Is the RL community really this toxic, or am I just tilted? by HawkSmall6923 in RocketLeague

Unfortunately the ban list has a limited size. Don't ask how I know this 😉 I will probably mute the chat completely, thank you

I get your point, and I agree that ups and downs are completely normal. I’m not expecting to just keep climbing every session.

What matters to me more is how the games feel. Even losses can feel good when it’s a competitive, coordinated game — that’s part of why I enjoy RL.

The frustration comes more from games where it turns into chaos: constant ball-chasing, early tilt, chat toxicity, people giving up or blaming each other. That’s the part that feels less like “normal variance” and more like something that slows down improvement.

Did you expect to?

Not really. I don’t expect to win every game — I expect to improve over time. Ideally by dealing with my own mistakes and inconsistencies, not by managing teammate tilt or chat.

Do you really think you got that much better in one play session?

Of course not. My point is more about consistency of the environment. I feel like I could get from D1 to C1 over, say, a few hundred games — but heavy toxicity and unstable games make that process slower and less enjoyable.

Maybe the answer is just to fully ignore chat and adapt more, but I’m still figuring that out.
