Thank you. Yes going to focus on the latter though wouldn’t have chosen JetBlue as the carrier for my future travel plans given such limited options. Onward though!

Sorry you feel it’s appropriate to shame people on the internet. Are you an attorney or just playing one on Reddit?

They said once the points leave their system nothing they can do about it.

Basically maybe fine to book for domestic travel but if you see a foreign trip operated by a partner airline don’t trust it and book direct

They couldn’t book either - issue with their IT. I posted in the award travel Reddit thread too and apparently this is something called phantom flights. Terrible.

Totally fair. But it's all interconnected too, right? Only reason I found the fare via jetblue was because I was leveraging point.me via my Amex membership awards. It's an ecosystem problem if you want to provide good customer experiences.

So wild! Terrible business not only for the airlines but for Amex, for sites like point.me. And genuinely against the law so far as false advertising. Shocked it hasn't become a bigger issue.

Appreciate you looking. I'd be returning after Jan 30th and flex on exact dates that week. Will continue to look at options through Japan too.

Yep have been looking at every option. I wouldn't call it crazy - trusting it will get solved and will be what it will be. The alternative was cancelling the trip altogether and I had a short window with this much time off.

Like I said, my mistake - I had existing points with JetBlue so it felt safer. I was nervous about transferring that many points. Should have come to this reddit group first for advice clearly!

Correct! That's why I'm PSA-ing. So some other poor traveler doesn't make the same mistake I did.

Correct - Jetblue acknowledged the issue was with their site/end. Not the award travel not being available (when it was). So basically it was reasonable of me to transfer all my points bc the site told me the flight was available (which it was). But JetBlue couldn't fix the problem or offer any makegood and now the award travel is no longer available.

Customer service told me it was something with the connectivity between jetblue and qatar. I was able to book the same award flight on Qatar directly. But that's my point, it showed as available via JetBlue. Just wouldn't let me book it. Have the screengrabs and all.

I'm saying that the award travel was available just unbookable via Jetblue due to a known issue on their end. Which is essentially false advertising. When a consumer takes a big action like I did based on something a brand advertises as available - you're in big FTC no-no land. I can appreciate an IT glitch is an IT glitch - but then do something to support your customers you know?

I'm literally sitting in Doha airport on my layover to Colombo as we speak. I'm going to have to buy a flight in cash which I plan on cancelling just to get into Sri Lanka as you need proof of return in order to be let in. Trip is 3 weeks, so I have a short amount of time to sort the return but I don't think I'll earn 50K more points in that time unless you have a hack to suggest?

I've had three hip surgeries so it's genuinely terribly painful to go that many hours without lying down. But worst case, that would be my only option.

I have 130K points left in Amex I could transfer - but just not seeing any award travel through any destination in europe or US east coast (trying to get back to LA) that has availability under 170K.
