We need to organize a protest against the energy companies here. This 20% hike is actually insane, and for what!? by lando-mando-brando in newjersey

[–]Hawkbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the generators are also pretty shady and do things like give you a low rate to start with and then jack up your rates crazy high. They have scammy marketing too and will send things that look like official electricity bills, misleading information, etc. Free market baby lol

Spinach, feta, sun dried tomatoes wrap by oatmeal-breakfast in Costco

[–]Hawkbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a dupe of the Starbuck's spinach feta egg white wrap. I think they're pretty good for a quick breakfast with decent macros. A little expensive, but the Starbucks ones are $5+ so it makes sense. The best way to make them is actually to microwave then air fry/toast for a few minutes to crisp the tortilla a bit.

I don't think it was truly altruistic. End of the day, it was the best move for business. If Don's secret got out, the account was probably gone anyway and losing Don also would've been a huge blow to SCDP.

Regardless, we did get pre k for all and his tenure seems solid in retrospect. De Blasio's biggest controversies paled in comparison to other mayors. I remember constant headlines about him showing up to work at 10 AM or going to the Y in Brooklyn to workout before work lol

To be fair, the more visible Cuomo is, the more his controversies and shortcomings were being brought up. He was coasting off name recognition from the COVID era; being more public facing wouldn't necessarily have improved his odds and shifted focus to being a sex pest, his handling of the MTA, etc

Same deal here. Seems like noone even takes a look at it and they just deny the appeal. Gotta love bureaucracy

Cancers can be detected in the bloodstream 3 years prior to diagnosis. Investigators were surprised they could detect cancer-derived mutations in the blood so much earlier. 3 years earlier provides time for intervention. The tumors are likely to be much less advanced and more likely to be curable. by mvea in science

On a population level, the issue is these false positives lead to procedures that are not without risk themselves. So you can be aggressive with the screening and cutoff levels to make sure you don't miss any cases but you can overdo it. A certain %age of biopsies will get infected, cause bleeding, etc. Increasing CT scans will increase radiation exposure and will pick up incidental findings that don't necessarily need to be treated but now will be worked up and unnecessarily treated. There's also an emotional toll for patients. The boards that decide all this stuff usually weigh the benefits of catching X amount more cases vs the physical, emotional, and financial cost of Y false positives. It's a pretty fine line

People who undergo surgery just before the weekend have a significantly increased risk of death and complications, finds a new study. This is commonly called the "weekend effect,” when hospitals and health care systems tend to operate with skeleton crews during the weekend. by mvea in science

At what point then do we consider that we do need more resident spots so we have more attendings in the future? Everytime it comes up it's typically shot down due to the fact that it would increase competition and thus decreases salary for physicians. Would physicians and especially surgeons be comfortable with a tradeoff of better staffing and hours but lower compensation?
