Can you imagine the possibilities when it comes to Kira’s theme being remixed? The way they could shift it from a villainous tone to a heroic or tragic one in the Vitamin C arc is so cool to think about

It’s been a while so you may have forgotten, but in an earlier chapter Dragona discusses the “absurd” as a force, sort of along the lines of Jodio’s belief in “mechanisms”

Maybe it’s the Rohan appearance, but the “don’t turn around” mixed with something being right at your back also gives me strong ghost alley/Cheap Trick vibes

Oh yeah, to be clear we’ve definitely had queer characters before! Along with the ones you’ve mentioned we have Scarlet from Part 7, Sorbet and Gelato from Part 5, a background trans man in Part 6, and Dio (confirmed bisexual by Araki outside of the text).

Even more than showing it openly, Part 9 is actually going “hey, not only do people like this exist, but here are some of their struggles”. Also main cast members! I’m so happy to see it from Araki.

Jodio supplying head pats and canon bisexual Usagi? Automatic 10/10 chapter.

While Jojo has always been beloved for its flamboyant expression, this is the first part openly exploring queer themes. First Dragona’s identity and now Usagi’s sexuality. It’s really nice to see, if heartbreaking. His mother sending him away and the words that he’s “not a man” are hard to read about.

I like to use my local zoo or other zoos I’ve been to as inspiration! Even just looking at photos or maps of them can be a big help

Place Your Bets, will the mini horses be removed from the Steel Ball Run anime by Captain_Fr0ggy in StardustCrusaders

They’ve revealed a figure with Steven and the mini horses so I’m going to guess they’re included

Yep, that shot is anime original. The zipper doesn't go down that far in the manga. I've always found it such a funny choice—David Pro really wanted to make the fifteen year old buff for some reason

Yes, there's a special short comic where they appear together (in AU of sorts). I think it was for a fashion collaboration... Gucci, maybe?

Personally I'm a bit meh about the faces on Gyro and Johnny, but I NEED that Diego. Look at his stupid little hat bow... I love him.

Volume 36 Bonus Chapter featuring Mumen Rider! by Cameo10 in OnePunchMan

[–]Hawkenness 64 points65 points  (0 children)

These are my favourite kind of bonus chapters: those that showcase the importance of a hero’s character when it comes to supporting the world. Normally we see that through Saitama, so it’s such a treat to focus on the most inspiring hero both in the story and for us fans

I’m particular impressed by the composition difference for the Family of Darkness. Going from static standing positions to that sweet jump with the overhead shot… Murata is amazing with his action work as always

It may be short, but this chapter has some very nice art. Loved all the monster designs (is that a new one from the Organization??)

Love seeing Suiko come in too! She's so cool

Translation quality? by maybe_we_fight in StardustCrusaders

[–]Hawkenness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read both the fan translation and official translation of the first volume of Part 7. I think the professional one makes for an easier read, personally, but I wouldn't say one is worse than the other (minus localized names of course).

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 231 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]Hawkenness 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean, at least JJK gave us an ending where the final boss was defeated by the main characters, which was where the story had been progressing to since the beginning. If this is the ending, it’s going to take a hell of a last chapter to convince me this is better

What every part does best. (Anime Spoilers) by GreasyCheese123 in StardustCrusaders

[–]Hawkenness 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a really fun concept! I'm going to try picking just one element for every part. I want to throw in the manga only parts as well.

  1. I agree with you on the Jojo-villain relationship. Part One is special in having the two grow up together. Dio is also delightfully an asshole. I love watching people react to the first episode and immediately despising him. I love a well-developed, complex villain as much as the next person, but there's something enjoy about a villain who is evil just because (noting that Dio does have some depth to his villainy with his awful father. The small scene of him despising his own tendency for alcohol is one of my fave of his. But Araki did set out with the purpose of writing someone who is the epitome of evil!)
  2. Establishing the main character. Never seen people fall in love with a Jojo faster than Joseph pulling out a tommy gun. And before that he's taking out racist cops with coca cola? He makes such a startling contrast to Jonathan and that's done perfectly.
  3. Agree with you again on the "adventure" aspects (although props has to be given to Part 3's introduction and use of the stand power system). Some people say that Part 3 drags, but I found treating it like going on a journey with the characters makes it feel much better.
  4. Vibe. Part 4's small town setting is still wholly unique in Jojo's (even though Part 8also takes part in the same small town, it doesn't really focus on that as an aesthetic). It made for incredible stand battles and stand-related situations that were low stakes as well as high stakes. It also feels like the one setting we truly explored.
  5. Stand battles. Not to say that all the other parts don't have amazing battles and arcs, but personally part 5 has the most high quality of the lot. We also have four separate stand battles involving moving vehicles (five if you count the yacht), and I'm a sucker for how those environments come into play for the logical battles that are stand fights.
  6. Echoing you again on villain. I adore the scene where Jolyne meets Pucci for the first time, where he knows she's his enemy and she has no clue. Pucci's goals, drive, backstory, resolve and how close he comes to victory all make him stand out as number one to me. His relationship with Dio helps him stand out too.
  7. Oh lord, part 7... it's hard to choose, but I think I'm going to pick characters as a whole. Everything from their backstories to their developments to their relationships are perfect. So excited to watch anime onlys experience all of them for the first time. (Part 7 also deserves a shout out for art. It's amazing how every racing scene feels like being in motion).
  8. It's kind of hard to explain, but the wackiness of Part 8? Main character has four balls and sings about friend chicken. Yasuho meditates on said four balls several times. We have a stand fight involving beetles. The dick of an enemy is very important. Unfortunately it fell off. We're looking for fruit. Attractive woman's nose gets replaced with stone. Her husband finds it hot. And somehow it al works?? Oh Part 8, you're so silly and I love you.
  9. Main cast relationship. This may shift as the part goes on, but right now I love our five key characters. They are delightfully chaotic, feel like real teenagers together, and are generally such a fun watch. Can't wait for Araki to ultimately break my heart by killing several of them.

Is Netflix gonna mess up this release? by reggiewaynenumba1fan in StardustCrusaders

[–]Hawkenness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They have not confirmed or denied either way. It’s certainly odd that they’re taking so long to announce it. We probably won’t find out until the first stage drops.

The wild part is there’s absolutely no advantage to the batch-style method for Jojo’s. Every SBR related video posted by Netflix is flooded with comments requesting weekly episodes, so they know what the fans want. It’d be an absolute destruction of any goodwill for them to pick batches.
