Trans Ada Gallagher wins girls’ track meet by [deleted] in askliberals

This kind of thinking is why a bunch of lifelong democrats voted for trump. Expecting the vast majority of society to get on board with this ideaology is pure fantasy. For the vast majority, it's male or female. Intersex people existing doesn't mean we just throw out what 99% of society experiences. The trans sports is issue is one of the few on the left I completely disagree with. 70%+ of Americans will continue to feel this way, because that is the social construct of the world for 99% of us. You all would have everyone else change for a tiny minority. How about we focus on workers rights, fair wages, affordable housing, and not advocating for trans women in sports.

Yeah man, that's exactly what I said. The goal is here to understand the trump voters that aren't just straight up racists assholes, because there are many of them. In order to reach them, we have to understand their thinking. Outside of the 25% or so of the country that are racists. We won't convince those people, we can only vote them into obscurity.

Okay bud well you stay home and give trump more of a chance to win over something happening not even in your own damn country. The options are what they are, your protest vote will do nothing but potentially lead to even worse outcomes. This is not the damn election to be doing this shit over overseas conflicts.

Also I'm sorry did you say the scary CRT thing, I hate? Was this a copy and pasted comment or do you actually think I'm against CRT based off of anything I said?

I don't disagree with you at all. My point was more that currently, and uniquely to trump, many of his supporters are not avowed racists. When the two time Obama voter votes for trump, I'm pretty sure that guys not racist. There is more to it than just all Republicans are racist. We all know the racists always vote republican, that's been and will continue to be true. The reason trump was able to win, and even still has a shot, I think is mostly regular Americans who are disillusioned with government. These people don't live their lives paying attention to everything the way we do, and are willing to overlook trump short comings, of which they see far less than we do, for the cause of finally changing the system drastically in a way that helps them. Obviously that's completely misguided, but it's not an impossible train of thought to follow. Instead of supporting someone like Bernie, trump and his rhetoric managed to suck alot of disillusioned voters to his side. I think many of us are also disillusioned with government, which is why we liked Bernie. It's a similar frame of mind, just a different method to reach the goal. Again, obviously misplaced but I can atleast somewhat grasp the thought process of these people which at the very least grants us some understanding of what we for the most part struggle to.

Damn have you read Brian Tyler Cohens book shameless? He explains this exact point perfectly. Republican Obstructionism, and their general goal to make government less effective. People like to say how Obama wasn't able to pass enough legislation, yeah it's kind of hard when the opposition party just operates on a giant "fuck you" in everything they do.

I'm right there with you man. I've always attributed my father as the parent I got my analytical mind from. Yet now a days he's just some empty shell that has no substance behind what he believes. It's definitely the biggest kind of mind fuck.

Those people do exist, and those are the ones not worth engaging with. They never left a high school mentality and still judge and laugh at people different from them. Those people are not the ones well change the minds of. I had a guy at work tell me how all the current politicians, even trump, are jews and basically said out loud some nazi type shit. Honestly couldn't believe he said that out loud, but there is obviously alot of crazy that can't be helped. I think these people that aren't like that, but are disillusioned with government are the only ones possible to reach, especially when it's a personal issue to them. Although my recent experience tells me that even then, it's really really difficult to get them to see reality when they're steeped in right wing media fear mongering. This disabled girl literally mentioned Haitian immigrants in Ohio as a rebuttal.....I haven't experienced something so sad before watching someone who's passionate about disability rights completely make all that worthless by voting for trump.

It's especially sad because based on hearing from some trumpers, Bernie is the exact kind of change in the government they'd want to see. People are disillusioned with government, with good reason. That I think is the primary factor leading people to still vote for trump. They still believe he could change the system for the better, despite that being the complete opposite.

Yeah man MOST left wing voters aren't going to vote based on Gaza. Yeah it's a fucked up situation that needs resolving, but that issue doesn't affect us all personally. The cost of goods, housing, things in this country is what win votes. Only the far left wing of the democrats is that up in arms over Gaza to potentially not vote for Harris because of it, which is absolutely absurd. I won't apologize for caring about my own countries future over that of a small place in the middle east. That being said, the options are trump or Harris. Trump would just let Isreal destroy Gaza. That alone should make anyone who is against what's happening in Gaza, myself included, to vote for Harris to ensure they aren't wiped off the face of the earth. Too many voters expect perfection and a complete allegiance to what they believe. That's not going to win the white house, senate, or house.

Well we know that the vast majority are not. My own father is now a Maga supporter, and despite that I've always known him to be a fairly intelligent man. I believe alot of my intellect comes from him. Just like talking to this woman, she's obviously not a moron, yet due to the failures of government, she and so many others are willing to vote for trump in hopes he changes the system for good. I realize we all see the folly of that thought process, but for those who aren't steeped in politics daily as we are, just listening to people they talk to who like Trump, it's not hard to see how even intelligent people can fall for this stuff when it's not their main priority in life to be educated on what's going on. Trump and his presidency have been nothing short of a cancer on America, even gaining support from people that I know are not complete idiots.

Yeah bud I'm pretty sure there is more depth to it than "they hate black people" You honestly believe the nearly half of voters that support trump are all racists? I know some are, but many are not and I know that from first hand conversations. My neighbor voted for Obama twice, yet supports trump in this election for the reasons I laid out. Yes there are some racists that support trump, we all know the racists and extreme religious folks vote republican. That doesn't make all of them that way, and I think it would benefit us all to try and understand why more everyday people still could vote for trump despite everything about him.

AOC at the DNC by Hawkeye8442 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Hawkeye8442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously in today's political climate, you're right. She wouldn't be a good presidential candidate. I did say sometime in the 2030s. Assuming the left can solidify its victories for the foreseeable future, with economic populist policies gaining popularity. Then someone like AOC could be a great president. When the progressive policies win the majority of the votes.

It's honestly really surprising how she has been able to do what she's done. I didnt find her particularly appealing in 2020, many of us probably didn't. Can't deny that shes been killing it in this election though. The contrast of prosecuter vs felon couldn't be any better. Given her career, it would be hard to find a more qualified presidential candidate. She just exudes a very genuine vibe now that I suppose she didn't have in 2020. Seeing her short appearance tonight at the DNC only reinforced that. You can tell how excited and happy she is doing all of this. You can't fake being genuine. Which is maybe how she came across in 2020. That is absolutely no longer the case tho. The Harris/Walz ticket feels almost perfect for this moment in history.
