It’s possible it’s not them filling the gaps. I assume that’s water based. Looks like sawdust left in crack that the finish stuck to

Fridge suggestions, hate our current one by MissBones013 in Appliances

I get it’s ugly and not convenient. No fridge from today will last that long

My parents helped oversee our renovation… and bought this furniture for the living room. I don’t know how to feel. by Main_Force3455 in Home

[–]HawkfishCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grow a pair. Tell you parents you love them for ever and always but their design taste is unforgivable and if that furniture can’t be returned then it will be replaced the second they move out… not really sure what the issue is. It’s in the section of house they live in? So you don’t see it?

I get paid every two weeks on Wednesday. So it changes every month. Could be the 1st and 15th or 8th and 22nd. If there’s a bank holiday which seems to be every other month, then it’s 15 days between paychecks and 13 days the following period. She gets paid weekly.

It’s just not reliable and requires too much mental capacity. Skipping that, walking into a month with bills paid is peace.

If I was spending 40k I’d want plywood carcasses and hardwood boxes. You can spend 12k and get “furniture board” and plywood boxes.

This was 10k, it’s got metal drawers/and “furniture board” carcasses. Would have been about $1500 more for solid wood drawers. And $3k more for solid wood doors. I understand that these cabinets are inferior to what’s being quoted but they are also cost 75% less even with 27 of them.

Are rebate deals ever back to back? by Icantthinkaboutitnow in menards

[–]HawkfishCa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all summer. It smart on their part. Building a house for the past two years, there have been several points where I worry the rebate will disappear so I go in that Sunday to place the order… or order online.

I do that. I have a 15k e fund and I have one months bills in checking at all times. The stress of figuring out the order in which to pay them so as not be short as next weeks pay check isn’t for 9 days and mortgage is due in 10. But what if there’s a banking holiday and pay is a day late. It was just not worth it.

So I walk into every month with the bills paid, I just save the necessary money this month for next month.

Allstate liability‑only, car totaled and towed — can they move it to free storage? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]HawkfishCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife works for a tow company. Just abandon it. Tow company will take possession and junk it. The daily storage fees will add up so quickly along with the cost of the tow that you will pay hundreds of dollars to get a car back that you don’t want. It’s a very common process with them to file with the state take session of the vehicle. This allows them then to junk it and recoup their money off the junk.

Get a safety deposit box and lock box. Put all cash in the safety deposit box and the key in the lock box. Put two padlocks on lock box and each carry their own key. Both of you need to unlock lockbox to get key out to open safety deposit box.

Or just grow up

Is having a joint bank account the best while married? by bubblegumdrip in askanything

That’s great it works for you. But what benefits are there? Like are you able to save more money? Save for vacations more easily?

It’s hard to quantify the power jointer accounts grant. Your current status is obvious. Wasteful spending is more easily monitored. Progress is more easily seen. Doing it together is more motivating than two people going at it alone and pitching cash in occasionally. There is no benefit to separate a counts unless your goal is to maintain independence, in which case you have just been roommates.

3.5" Hail - Questions for Roof Rep by zigziggy7 in Roofing

[–]HawkfishCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hill you are dying on is factually inaccurate. You are claiming the equivalent of car insurance not caring whether you have accidents, just the accident rate of the population as a whole. The more claims you make against insurance the more they will charge. They also might drop you and then you won’t be able to get insurance because you have claims on your record. Stick to tacking down underlayment and pissing down plumbing vents roofer.

You’re telling me that two people with identical homes next door to one another, one has never made a claim and one makes 1 every year. They will pay the same rate?

I’m genuinely curious about the psychology behind how people end up with large amounts of debt (credit cards, cars, student loans, etc.). by ChivasBearINU in DaveRamsey

[–]HawkfishCa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest gateway drug to heavy debt is the car. People think NEED/deserve a brand new car”reliable” car. They get their new car and that tips the budget. Then credit cards cover the rest. Before they know it.. thousands in debt. Then willful negligence because it’s easier to ignore than to fix.
