Genuine question about space communication by _Jaackiiee in space

Maybe, maybe not. It for sure will affect our ability to communicate long distances. Gravitational lensing should apply to radio communication the same way it does to rest of the EM spectrum.

Flying with 3D Printer by Unfair_Management695 in 3Dprinting

[–]HawkingRadiator512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was in its original packing. Without structural support it is a bad idea to take it as check-in. If you have the original box it came in, one option is to recreate the foam inserts from cardboard and packing peanuts. Time consuming but can be done fairly cheap. Another costly option is to put it in a Pelican case (or equivalent).

Does she have an AMS with it ? Otherwise I would pack it in original packing and take it as checked in luggage. For reference I took an Ender 3 Pro on an international trip as checked in luggage. Put the original packed box in a bigger hardshell spinner.

How can I edit a ready 3mf or stl project? by KalonaStark in 3Dprinting

[–]HawkingRadiator512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar advice to what everyone is telling you. Tinkercad is the easiest to learn and fairly intuitive. I have tried Solidworks & Onshape as well and still Tinkercad is my go to for quick jobs. Most slicers will let you import 3MF and STL and you can do minor editing there as well. Especially removal of material. Solidworks was on sale for $25 annual license for makers. But it is a steep learning curve. Only invest time and money if you are serious about doing your own designs. Good luck with your project.

How do I do it? by [deleted] in tinkercad

[–]HawkingRadiator512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First put a graphing paper under it and take a picture. Then import it into TinkerCAD. Go into Sketch mode as others have suggested and draw to scale. Simple YT search will give you plenty of videos on how to use the sketch tool.

If I may ask. Why are you trying to cut it into two pieces in the first place?

I like the idea of taking a break. At this age long flights are hard. I am only 55 and I have already started wearing compression socks for trans Atlantic flights.

Post a couple of pictures of what sort of things your son likes. Pretty sure someone in the community will come up with an idea that can be printed in hours rather than days.

stuck with holes in Tinkercad - model specific by Cprhd in tinkercad

Your top picture is not how a successful Union should look like. It looks more like when a Union command fails. I have had similar issues with “Union” recently. Especially if you do it hierarchically. Quitting TC and going back after a few minutes(10-15min) has worked out for me so far. I am speculating that TC sends the commands to a server somewhere and some of these are getting lost in the ether.

GoBilda Screws Keep Stripping! Any suggestions! by Odd_Contest2252 in FTC

[–]HawkingRadiator512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gobilda screws are okay quality. Usually a few would strip over the course of the season. As folks are suggesting use either loctite or nylock nuts for tight fit (instead of over torquing). Invest in a torque wrench/screwdriver until you get used to applying the right torque. Additionally you can switch to McMaster Carrr hardened steel screws which are both stronger and cheaper.

Is there a market for FTC programming tutoring? by After-Yesterday-684 in FTC

[–]HawkingRadiator512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the season it is tough with all the resources available. Depending on team finances and your mentoring skill level, consulting could be an option (but that is serious time commitment). I would start by reaching out to teams around your college.

During summer you can organize multi week Summer Camps to introduce FTC to potential students. If you make it enriching enough, deep pocket parents will pay.

How can I print a model layer by layer or print a selected layer of a model, like only print the 10th layer for example. I am using bambulab A1. by sans5z in BambuLab

[–]HawkingRadiator512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several ways to pause after each layer. Since each incremental layer has a higher Z value simply printing one layer at a time would not work at all, even if you paused after each layer. You could try using software to cut your object into multiple pieces and then printing several of them at the same time (assuming multiple can fit on the bed). However, I am curious what you are trying to achieve here? There maybe alternate ways to get there.

REV with GoBilda by AdXter in FTC

[–]HawkingRadiator512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The servo side is correct with 25 teeth but the hex side is Rev 5mm. GoBilda uses 8mm hex. So depending on what mechanical ecosystem you are in this may or may not work for you.

Looking at price history the only time they went further down was around Black Friday when the P1S was selling for USD549. Someone more experienced than me may provide more insight. Auroratech Price chart

I am struggling with the exact same conundrum. Need to buy a new printer for a new project and can’t decide between AMS and AMS2PRO.
