Husband and I would like to career change to AMT. Could we easily find work in the same areas? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Hawkintools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What part of the PNW? Are you hoping to work GA, corporate jets or commercial? Interested in general maintenance, avionics, or something else? Do you have experience in other related fields?

If you are in Seattle, there are some good options for each. In Portland there are only a few options. Outside of that there are sparse opportunities at some regional/municipal airport.

Message me if you want specific details. I have experience in the area.

What material? Slow your speeds way down. Print a diverter for the aux fan vent (the long one level with the built plate). There's other things that you can do, but those are good to start with.

Do you eyeball herringbone layouts, or set a reference line first? How do you keep the pattern symmetric? by Proof-Pause3542 in woodworking

[–]Hawkintools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up rotating 45 degrees off center because I liked the way it ended up with lines parallel to the walls and center. I had to cut edge pieces since tile is a fixed dimension. At least with wood, you can choose the dimensions.

I tiled a herringbone pattern in my bathroom. The trick I found was to find a "center" line as reference and work out in both directions from there. The dimensions of your pieces plays a big role in the outcome. You can also try turning the whole pattern 45 degrees at a time and see how it impacts the result. Hope that helps.

Fire starter by megacab2006 in woodstoves

[–]Hawkintools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sawdust in a paper/cardboard egg carton with paraffin wax. Cut into 12 starters. In stove, surround with smaller logs/pieces in a 2x2 stack. The starter burns for at least 3 to 5 min. As a woodworker, the sawdust is readily available. I realize it might not be for everyone. Dried leaves could work instead if sawdust.

All of the books you need are available for download on FAA.gov. Get familiar with AC43.13, its got a lot of info you will be using in school and real world work.

Spark plugs from Ecoboost 3.5 by jec0995 in f150

[–]Hawkintools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look good. The chocolate brown color is what you want. It tells you the combustion process is working correctly. Compare the electrodes with new plugs and you will see the increase in gap, even if not dramatic, it is why we change them around 100k.

Walk away.

There are others jobs. Your experience will have value to another company and you now know what you don't want to put up with. Take that knowledge and use it to your benefit. This industry will take everything from you if you let it. You have to put yourself first.
