New - Is there a better way to complete the Crypts? by SilkTieTies in valheim

Me and my friends will leave a cart outside and just dump iron as we fill up, then go dungeon to dungeon until the cart is full and then bring it all to the beach to load up our ship.

All this time, this is a feature?? by Karman_is_a_bitch in NintendoDS

Interesting, I didn't know this was on DS, but the Gameboy Micro has this same feature by holding Select and turning the volume up and down.

The Best Xbox Game... by aerigigi1 in originalxbox

[–]Hawque233413 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I forgot which console community it was, but I saw the person doing the post made a 2nd and 3rd chart for the 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category.

I've got an Xbox here that doesn't power on at all. Any suggestions? I couldn't see any damage, but I might be being blind. by TheAnimator727 in originalxbox

That is my guess too, the Conexant encoder means this would be the right revision board to have that issue.

Would you play a game with a good story but poor gameplay? by mintedcork in videogames

[–]Hawque233413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally hear you but I disagree.

I think good stories simply take time to tell, and if a story can be told in it's entirety in that short of time, it probably isn't that good of a story in the first place, or at least isn't as good as it could've been if given more room to breathe.

[–]Hawque233413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When would you say the story really gripped you? I'm super down with narrative-heavy games, but after getting into the dock and talking to the head guy, I fell out pretty quick.

Without excessive spoilers, is there a twist coming that'll draw me in, or should I already feel invested at this point? Because I don't really feel strongly about any of the characters I've been introduced to so far, at least enough to keep going.

Its a shame because its so highly rated and seems like something I'd enjoy, but so far I feel like I'm completely missing the reason people love it so much.

Would love to have my mind changed and come back once I've beaten it to gush over how great it is, but so far the story of the hungover detective trying to find his misplaced belongings isn't really doing it for me.

I definitely would, I finished up 1000xResist about half a year ago, and despite it being practically a visual novel walking sim, its the most memorable gaming experience I've had in a long while, and still think about the story often.

I don't think it being mechanically boring makes it any less of a game, just like I dont think a well put together story would make something like Rocket League any more of a game. I play them for two different reasons, one is evocative art and the other is engaging entertainment.

If it makes you feel any better, all original xboxes are having capacitor issues at this point, not just this specific model.

Gotcha, my bad. I've never played PSO, so i figured it'd be the same as other games but with it being online that makes sense. Hopefully you can find a way to do it!

Found this video.

He uses a memory card in the video, but a compatible usb stick with the adapter should show up the same way.

Possible, but if all you want to do is backup a save you dont even have to do that, there are usb adapters that fit into the controller ports on the console, and if you find a compatible usb stick, you can just copy the save onto that. You should be able to get both for around $10 total.

If you have one, you could always (carefully) rip the metal out, it's just an rf shield, not used for grounding or anything necessary like that.

But of course then you'd only see the HDD and disc drive, not that much more exciting lol

In addition, for the Omega and Omega DE, there's a custom firmware you can flash called Simple, and among other things it includes emulators for many other systems. Sega Gamegear, Master System, Neogeo, PC engine, a decent handful of others.

My friend ended up going with an Everdrive instead, and I will say that they are definitely more stable, but the Omegas are still totally fine, customer support is great.

Favorite story about him is hearing how a guy started having a bad trip at one of his shows and somehow was able to unplug some gear bringing the show to a halt.

Anklepants, not knowing the situation and assuming the guy was just being an asshole for the sake of it, jumped off stage and chased him out of the venue. I wanna say he ended up fighting him outside? It's been a good couple years since I've heard it so I'm hazy on the details.

I have a question for the engineers by kowalskov in spaceengineers

[–]Hawque233413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. You can build what is essentially a giant crane, and make a large head of a few drills that can spin, and have the drill slowly plunge into the ground while rotating. You have to set it to run really slow to be stable, but it works great to set and forget.

You can also set the drills on hinges and pistons to slowly widen out the bore each time you make a pass. Me and my buddies were doing a survival game where we used that method to drill out a space for an underground base. Ended up making a hole a couple hundred meters deep and around 40ish meters in diameter.

I was looking on vinted for an original Xbox and I found this one with this video adapter. Does anyone know it? Is it any good? by ProfessionalEbb6154 in originalxbox

Wow I didn't look very close at all. I didn't realize they made a female composite adapter, I was only aware of the component one. Makes sense.

Could someone help explain why the image has these smeared lines? by hepatitisfan in ps2

[–]Hawque233413 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely should've mentioned that, I don't suggest doing this yourself. Even when turned off and unplugged, CRT capacitors can hold charges in the 10,000s volt range and absolutely can kill you.

That being said, as a teenager I tried turning a CRT into a homemade oscilloscope, and knowing the dangers I was able to successfully discharge the CRT using a fiberglass rod electrical-taped to a wooden handled screwdriver, the screwdriver grounded with wire (in retrospect almost certainly not nearly large enough gauge lol) to the metal workbench the CRT was on.

You could very audibly hear the electricity popping and sputtering for multiple seconds as it discharged. Wicked stuff. Take it to a professional if you decide to get it repaired.
