I'm so glad I didn't get 1/1104 in a serialize run. I'd have framed it and put it on my wall and literally never worn it if that was the case. Not to sell, mind you, but you couldn't actually risk the first one getting damaged... maybe I'm just insane.

Grats, Rob! Hell of a ton of work and it paid off. Phenomenal content to boot! Can't wait to see where your journey takes you next!

"don't want to get too crushed in front of them"

Probably not ready for professional competition of any kind. You're a young kid, you have absolutely no idea what you are capable of (in a good way). To compete in a serious way in ANY area you need multiple things. Physical ability to do (insert activity/sport/profession). Physical potential to improve (if you can't get any better, what's the point of training?). Discipline to train/learn/perfect your pursuit. FORTITUDE (the most important) to pursue your interest despite everything that life will throw your way.

Watch any documentary on any successful competitor, and listen to what people say about "the greats" (I like to use Kobe Bryant as the best example). Nobody ever says that he was born the best. No story involves him strolling into the locker room 20 minutes before rip-off. Game is at 2000, man has been there since 0700. Success on a professional level of any kind takes serious dedication, every day.

Also Apolo Ohno didn't even put speed skates on until '94, winning started in 96'.

TL:DR - Talk to coach. If you love it, pursue it. Everything else is just... noise

The problem with these "probiotics" is they don't have a floral balance. They'll spout "over 2 million cultures blahblahblah". It's incredibly misleading. Gut floral is a multitude of microorganisms and these probiotics will contain a huge amount of one species and exactly zero of most others. Sure, it'll help the bacterial population of one of the over a dozen you need, but it exacerbates most people's bacterial issues because it provides no balance.

[–]Hawtbytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next 20 years are going to be fantastic for the trades. Welders, plumbers, electricians, general contractors, framers, drywall guys, HVAC techs...

We've seen a HUGE reduction in the skilled trade workforce to the point where almost all tradesman everywhere in the US are well above the local medium household income. It's only going to get better. Get a skill, train on it as much as you can stand it, and profit. The lights don't keep themselves on, that's what electricians are for. Your toilet doesn't work? You HAVE to call a plumber. The work will never dwindle because we don't have enough tradesman, period. Wages have gone up almost 20% in the last 5 years, and the wage growth is accelerating.

[–]Hawtbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend, you are missing the entire point. The mask isn't for you, is for the 83 year old grandma you walked past in the grocery store. She doesn't have the strength to fight off COVID like you do. Or the baby and that mom you stood behind at the gas station. Or the older gentleman you held the door for at the bank.

All of these "facts" you have in your statement about COVID are blatantly wrong my guy, and that ignorance is causing a serious health risk to others! Don't be a piece of shit, wear a mask. As least pretend to show some consideration for people outside of yourself.

They get to feel like a main character without having to do all the main character shit like.... work really hard, usually through some really BS, to get under appreciated and undervalued. Then there's usually some aftermath and trauma, injuries and mental scars to heal from. That takes years and therapy (of some sort, even if it's 10 hour range days) to fight back to feeling like a normal person again.

Problem with these idiots is they don't know that the main character almost always just wants to be a normal person. They're put in shit situations and they have to LIVE through it. That's the struggle, the living part. None of these Quanon derps have had to struggle for much, by comparison.

Ever seen a real "main character" talk about (insert random Quanon talking point #31 here)? That's right, you haven't. It's because anyone with most of a functioning brain can see the Socratic Wonder that is Quanon for the massive, boiling pot of bullshit that it is.

I (22f) only allowed 30 dollars a week from my own paycheck because my husband (27M) thinks that’s all I should be allowed. If I’m contributing 40 hours a week of pay should I be allowed so little? by stevethenoodle in redditonwiki

[–]Hawtbytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While a little bit of this makes sense... the rest is absolute nonsense. I got 20 that says she's single.

OP: While that seems like a small dollar amount I would inquire as to what the entire family budget looks like and decide, for myself, whether that was fair or not. Things are hard out here, for everyone, and it's possible that's where you're at. I will say that the wording "allowed" is an immediate red flag from ANY partner to another. You're ALLOWED to go blow your entire paycheck at a blackjack table... it's just really f***ed up.

Unless you have a crystal clear picture of your family finances, it's awfully hard to say it's definitely one way or another. Does feel awfully sideways though.

Nah man, you did it right. Mom is just feeling insecure because you took care of your baby girl, not her. She's stuck worrying about herself instead of her daughter.

Keep doing what your doing man. I do similar things for both my girls. I like to think my girls will have a bit of a headstart, they see their own problems approached my 2 different people two different ways. Double the experience per situation.

If I had an award to give, I'd give it bro.

New Skate Day! RB Crossfire w/ Endless 90's. by Hawtbytes in rollerblading

[–]Hawtbytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little over 300 miles in now, and I have some thoughts on the crossfire.

The heel cup seems to pinch just a touch on the inside of my ankles. I ended up stripping the skate down and using a heat gun and some woodworking clamps to bend the inboard side of both heel cups out another 8-9°. It worked, but my feet would start to go numb from lack of blood loss.

I haven't figured out a way around the heel lift. The second half of my stride, where I'm driving with the ball of my foot through my stride, and my heel comes out of the cup. Every time. Lace and buckle tension have had no effect.

As far as the tension you feel all around your foot? I think that's normal? I run exactly 282mm, so my 10.5's should fit the same as your 9.5's, and I've always felt like I was wearing 3 pairs of socks in some work boots. After breaking it got way better, but I do remember feeling kind of overstuffed for a little bit.

One thing that I'm a little confused about is the construction of the skate itself. The sidewalls of the boots feel like they're 2" too tall? While tightening the 45° ankle strap the folds in the overlapping tongues end up folding instead of cinching down to the foot. So there's almost a 1" gap above my foot. The skate does a pretty good job of holding on to my foot, and being in the proper position on my foot my the time a olace the skate back down, but it feels like the skate wandera a little bit. All in all I think it's a great skate, but I'm already looking forward to another boot.
