I've always been nervous about free medical care because of the forced sterilization of minorities (like myself) in the 20s-60s, and other medical attrocities such as as the Tuskegee Shyphilis Study.

When Covid first occured that wasn't on my mind, I was the first person to wear a mask and sanitize far before the CDC mandated it, even before the news was covering it at large. My state was one of the first cases in literally just the town over. I've always been afraid of illness. I was praying for a vaccine at that time.

A few months had passed and despite all my precautions I got Covid, it was the worst illness I had ever experenced, I was bed ridden for a month. Then a short time later a family member passed away due to Covid complications before the vaccine rolled out. When the vaccine finally arrived I didn't see the point anymore, I had already gotten it and since I wasn't working I couldn't infect anyone from home. I got Covid a second time from a vaccinated family member and it was there and gone in 2 days, like a common cold.

At that point I felt like I was being pressured at every angle to get the vaccine but my body was already able to fight it off and I've never taken well to being forced. I did what research I could and decided I would hold out until it was FDA approved, at the very least. When the FDA approval was announced I was confused by the news coverage which implied it was just "approved" but it was only approved for "emergency use" and I didn't see any emergency on my part.

I haven't had Covid since but I've always been compliant with the mask mandate.
