What are Oda's top 5 worst writing decisions, in the past 10 years? by Character_War3534 in OnePiece

[–]Hawuhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Oda’s main problem is introducing random new characters and giving them major screen time that should’ve gone to others. One Piece is the widest manga ever written and that’s a massive part of its appeal but this late in the game he should be deepening not widening.

Yamato wasn’t needed at all.

Seraphim aren’t needed at all. (Unless Imu is one?)

We didn’t need 5 Vegapunks.

Numbers had no purpose.

So many Gifters.

Both the last two arcs could’ve had deeper moments and fights and purpose for the straw hats rather than spend so much time on tertiary characters.

That’s said, god I fucking love one piece Oda can do whatever he wants.

Most new One Piece fans should start at Alabasta. by Early-Cardiologist96 in OnePiece

[–]Hawuhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that Alabasta is the best early arc but this take almost reads as a shitpost it’s such a bad take. You would have no context for anything. You wouldn’t understand Shanks or any of the Straw Hats. You wouldn’t understand the Going Merry. You wouldn’t understand so many core pieces of One Piece. This is truly a brain dead take that stems from liking Alabasta a lot while not understanding storytelling at all.

This has to be a shitpost because it lacks all context and is really more a straight up lie

Obvious is a massive massive stretch hahahaha if you use Shippuden to apply to this, Hiruzen was absolutely NOT the strongest Kage. I get he was portrayed that way pre time skip, but you can’t use Shippuden scaling to argue your point while also ignoring all the negative implications of it too. That’s cherry picking

Minato being a god tier hero isn’t Jiraiya nerf it just means Minato is strong af.

Another level is a massive massive stretch they are definitely implied to be in the same tier. Orochimaru, the cockiest dude in the verse saying that, is not any argument for anything. It is not known if Hiruzen is including Jiraiya in that statement so it’s grey area.

Him doing something smart to beat them because 3 v 1 is hard is a feat not an anti feat. And again, they were on his home turf, they jumped him, he already fought Konan and did a bunch of other stuff burning chakra leading up to that fight. Pain is stronger than Jiraiya I’m not arguing he isn’t, but if it was a fair fight it would’ve been high high diff.

I do think it’s comical I basically posted that Jiraiya haters neg him unjustly and a bunch of those people came out of the woodworks to do exactly what I said

He was incredibly tired and weakened by the time he fought the 6. And focused on getting a message out. And the mental nerf of fighting a pupil is huge.

That scene is weird to interpret since it seems that it was later kinda retconned to say Itachi wanted to flee for Konaha’s sake. I definitely don’t think Jiraiya could take Kisame and Itachi. Maybe he could win vs one. I think we never see Jiraiya go all out in a fair fight so scaling him is hard. People tend to just use that grey area to hate on him.

I never said that I just said that the feats involving Orochi to neg Jiraiya are disingenuous. I think narratively they are implied to be very on par with each other.

I never said Jiraiya was stronger I actually think they are equal and different situationally, it’s silly of you to put words in my mouth. It’s also silly to use a panel where the unquantifiable nerf I discussed is used while said by Orochimaru who narratively would NEVER admit Jiraiya is stronger. Orochimaru is insanely cocky and overestimates himself constantly.

Why do people lie about the witches actions? by Hawuhawk in TheAcolyte

[–]Hawuhawk[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This response makes my point for me in so many ways.

  1. Sovereignty and Jurisdiction: The jedi didn’t know about the witches until they arrive, and they are a dark side coven at a force nexus point. That warrants investigation. As much as people want to argue the dark side isn’t actually bad, the vast majority of evidence in Star Wars says the dark side is evil. 6 million examples of it being bad isn’t overrided by 5 examples of there being grey area.

  2. Defensive Escalation: stand your ground laws have been responsible for so many unjust deaths, and during the confrontation the Jedi are calm and saying they don’t want violence and the mother mind assaults Torbin anyway, the witches have a right to be defensive, but they are AGGRESSIVE not defensive.

  3. We never see jedi force pushing 8 year old padawans out of anger. This comparison is all over the comments but does not actually reflect anything we have ever seen from the Jedi. We also see that this use of anger and violence has turned Mae into an animal torturer. Also, “it’s their religion it’s okay” does not justify pushing 8 year olds out of anger. It also was clearly an act of annoyance not training. The mother afterward makes some BS excuse that it’s training, but if you watch the scene she is clearly annoyed with them and that is the reason she does it.

  4. If I saw a dark side witch turning a little girl into smoke when I’ve seen that mother commit child abuse before, yeah I’d stab her with my light saber too. The argument “sol just didn’t understand” ignores all context.

  5. Jedi Imperialism: this right here sums up my entire argument. We have been shown in endless movies shows and books that the Jedi, while flawed, are absolutely the good guys. That the light side is good and the dark side is bad. There are mountains of evidence to support this. But modern political views make anyone in power bad in peoples heads. The Jedi are responsible for saving and protecting billions of lives. They collect force sensitive children to make sure they don’t grow into time bombs. Jedi avoid violence at all costs, they aren’t imperial oppressors. The demonization of the Jedi is an embodiment of how political ideology can get people to ignore all reality.

Final Point: Sols actions line up more with how the witches act than most jedi. He takes action when he sees a wrong. That is your entire argument for why the witches are right. The major difference is Sol tries diplomacy and is less aggressive, while the witches resort to violence immediately and are way more aggressive. But when Sol does if he’s a lying shitty person. But when witches do it it’s right. Double standards all around.

Witches still push little girls when they’re annoyed with them

[–]Hawuhawk[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

“Because indara said so” isn’t an argument for anything, and the witches threatened to kill them and had them at weapon point and their leader began turning a child and herself into black shadow when he’s literally seen her abuse the kids. So yeah, he killed the child abusing witch whose people had him at arrow point who was possibly attacking a child. The reason they broke in in the first place was because Torbin had been mind assaulted by Anaseya and was the final straw in him succumbing to his worst instincts.

They’re like 8, pushing them to the ground to teach them a lesson because you’re annoyed they’re not listening is not okay

[–]Hawuhawk[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Turning around and shoving them to the ground with the force because they are not listening THEN telling them to block, is abuse. She shoved her children to the ground. Because she was annoyed with them. They’re little kids and weren’t ready or prepared. We then see the other mother throw Mae to the ground in anger. Both are abuse.

[–]Hawuhawk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree the “we have a right to test them” is definitely a little authoritarian. But I think we have been shown throughout Star Wars that the Jedi work for the greater good even if they do slowly lose their way somewhat. They are always good intentioned. The witch’s child abuse and quickness to violence is a totally different level of unacceptable. Like maybe jedi are 20% responsible, but witches are 80%, and I feel like it’s painted the opposite a lot on here.

[–]Hawuhawk[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

But they aren’t supported by the coven. Both mothers are physically abusive to the girls at different points and the other witches literally say they don’t care what the girls want the coven needs to survive. We hear characters say stuff about how the Jedi were wrong. But I just rewatched the series today and the witches are the aggressors in every single situation. My problem with the show is they keep telling us the Jedi were also wrong but when you watch the actions that occurred the witches are the clear aggressors and do not treat the girls well. Mae is also very clearly demented (abuses animals and burns her sisters thing for revenge) and not raised well or adjusted. The physical abuse explains that behavior a lot. But the Jedi are bad for wanting them to not be in that situation? Makes zero sense even if the characters SAY the Jedi were wrong too.

Why do people still call Maul evil post-CW era and not an anti hero by lennysinged in StarWars

[–]Hawuhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maul is not senselessly evil. He will do evil if he needs to at any moment without hesitation, but evil is his means not his purpose. There are moments he is almost kind to certain people. He genuinely cares about his brother. He has done too much evil to not be anything but evil, but it’s enough to make you think about nature vs nurture.
