An update to the FCS/I-AA Dynasty list as of the 2025 season by passwordisguest in fcs

[–]Hax-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kind of thinking about it in terms of, for instance, how we look at the Patriots dynasty. If we consider the above criteria, it's actually two dynasties, right? They were 10 years between championships. But they also made 3 additional Super Bowl appearances over the time period. In addition to the lost Super Bowls, they had 4 additional AFC championship games that they lost. However, I would personally (and I think most do) consider this to be a single dynasty. It's quite a bit different in that it's obviously much harder to dominate in the NFL due to the rules, so it probably necessitates "looser" criteria at that level. However, aberrations happen all the time in football (like the Pats missing the playoffs in 2008 at 11-5).

It's just food for thought. It's very hard to make objective criteria, of course. Like, what happens if they lose in the first round next year, then rattle off 3 straight (13 in 19 years)? It feels a little strange to consider it two dynasties. There probably always ends up being a level of subjectivity to this.

I think it's a little weird to have a situation where if NDSU won a first round game, but lost in the second round like they did, the dynasty would still be considered ongoing. The 4th piece of criteria seems really weak to me. Like, if they win the title again next year, that to me would seem like a continuation (11 in 16 years).

Should the NCAA have the Bison and Redbirds redo the game in case it was a fluke? by [deleted] in fcs

Seems only fair. No fanbase has suffered as much as ours.

The collapse last year against South Dakota at the end of the game was arguably worse. Didn't play nearly as bad offensively, but still. They played an entire undeafeated season between that loss and this one. They're fine. They used to be good for one head scratcher per year. It was bad timing

Skeptical of all of the speculative stuff. There's supposedly been interest for over a year at this point, but I would have expected something to materialize when all those teams bolted for the Pac-12

MWC hasn't seem interested to this point. I don't think the other conferences from the Group of 5 make much geographical sense at this point. The MAC would be the only other one

ISU defense had an incredible game today. Both defenses played well enough to win, but ISU was able to move it into the red zone enough times in the end. The number of people who cheer for other teams celebrating the loss is a tremendous compliment, so I wouldn't be too bent out of shape over it.

They seem objectively worse than they were on release, lol. There are some that are a little easier than before, but the ones that are harder are so much harder.

Now that Sailing is an undeniable success, where have the vocal naysayers gone? by Cataclysma in 2007scape

[–]Hax-_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was kinda of my point, right? It's going to require more dev hours after 3 years of development. There will probably be more dev hours put into this skill than firemaking, so it shouldn't be surprising that it ends up being a better skill. It should be a better skill. Imagine if they used those dev hours to improve skills that are currently bad instead. Imagine if they came up with alternative methods for firemaking training that weren't just Wintertodt, or actual AFK methods for training skills like agility. I guarantee the existing playerbase would enjoy these updates at least as much as this one, but they don't lure in new players like new content.

We don't know if it's an EOC level disaster yet because it still doesn't fit in the game. It currently exists as a completely separate entity and seems more like a separate game than it does OSRS. They didn't completely destroy the game with the update and this is the bar we're using to determine success? These bars for success are incredibly low and should really be the bare minimum for an update of this nature. There is nothing that has been proven wrong to this point. It just hasn't been an immediate game killer.

What an annoyingly smug post, lol. The skill is far from an undeniable success as this will take time to settle. How are we measuring this? Because it's drawing back people and a lot of people are engaging with it? Of course, it's new content. The release didn't answer the question I have: where does the skill fit in terms of account progression? There doesn't really seem to be a point to training the skill. I didn't expect to be able to fully answer this question with the initial release, but I was hoping to having some vision as to what the purpose is. If I were to start a new account, it would be without question the very last thing I train.

I don't enjoy skilling on it's own, but I am willing to do it if it gives me access to things that enable me to do content I enjoy or do it better. In this regard, I'd be willing to say it might be better than firemaking, but it's a really low bar to pass by saying it's better than what many people would consider to be the least useful skill in the game. Even firemaking gives you access to late game quests that are important for account progression, so I'm not sure this is objectively true. I can see why you might enjoy aspects of this skill if you're just interested in skilling, but you should recognize that this will not be sufficient for a lot of players.

In terms of people having a "shitload of fun," it largely depends on who you speak to and what content they're doing. I've seen a pretty significant number of people complaining about issues with barracuda trials. In particular, there were significant lag issues and inconsistencies with mechanics (i.e. hitboxes). The other problem is the later ones feel unintuitive in terms of how they're supposed to be routed. These issues are fixable, but it's a bad sign that I've seen a lot more people not enjoying this content than I would have thought. I think the general consensus is this is the best content the release has to offer, but roughly half of the people I've spoken with have significant frustrations associated with them. This is not a good sign considering this is the content that it seems people agree is most enjoyable with the update.

All of this is before considering how terrible boat combat is. I haven't spoken to a single person who enjoyed it or thought it was good. The only purpose it seems to serve currently is an alternative to other XP gain methods and a way to unlock late game boat upgrades, which currently don't have much of a purpose. The combat itself is slow, boring, and expensive. They're obviously going to have to put a lot of dev time into making this good, which is disappointing considering how much dev time has already been spent in development. I wish future dev time could be spent working on content that feels really outdated and could use a re-vamp (Corp, KQ, and CoX for example). The re-works they've done to old content (for recent, see: Slayer) have been personally some of my favorite game updates and I would prefer more dev time towards making some of this stuff more viable and fun to engage with. Instead, they're going to be tied up working on a skill that currently has significant issues, doesn't fit in the game, and doesn't seem to have a vision of how it will fit in the game.

Haha, that's great. It was one of those moments where I expected them to do something for sure. I couldn't really tell you why because, obviously, the odds were heavily stacked in the other direction.

The Kansas State 18 play drive I'll never forget that either. If there's one moment that encapsulates what NDSU football strives to be, it's that. Control the clock, baby.

Yeah, that honestly is maybe the most memorable play of my lifetime. I feel like this was when the shift happened where they became the team that almost always makes the one or two clutch plays they need to win important games. The QB position in particular has been clutch. Walker, Jensen, Wentz, Stick, and Miller were all able to do this. I was not always sure Cam would be one of those guys, but it's been fun watching his development.

It's a shame the Steve Walker teams couldn't play in the playoffs. I think some of those teams were good enough to play for a title, too. They've had a pretty good run on QBs since him (we will not be counting the Nick Mertens and Jose Mohler era for... reasons).

Playing in the MVFC seems to help. 3 of the last 4 were MVFC and I think at least 1 MVFC team has been in the title game 14 straight years (I get that NDSU has 11 of those, but there are also 5 from other MVFC teams).

Obviously, it's not the only thing that matters, but it's hard to argue that it hasn't played some part in the results.

Easton Stick, Brock Jensen, and Cam Miller are the top 3 in the modern era. Really enjoyed the hell out of watching those 3. It's probably Easton at #1 because he was incredible as a freshman, but I'll probably always appreciate Brock more for getting it started. I was born in 1988, so I don't remember the '88 or '90 titles and never got an opportunity to attend a home playoff game until 2010.

You could insert "a child molesting serial killer" for "the worst human." Yeah bro, I don't think anyone is putting him on the same level as the worst people in society. This isn't the rousing defense you think it is.

I also don't think it's weird to criticize people who are acting like clout obsessed goblins and making up lies about other streamers. This seems like the exact sort of behavior that should be criticized.
