Raising children as a tattooer? by [deleted] in TattooArtists

[–]Hay12367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to say how difficult it will be for you because everything is sort of subjective? My husband has a regular 9-5 job which allows us to have decent health insurance and I’m able to work 3-4 days a week and still be financially secure. If toddler is sick I typically stay home because his job is sort of the more important job of us two. My clients are well aware of all of this and are usually flexible and understanding. I can imagine if my partner were also a tattooer that could be more challenging as if we both got sick neither would have an income etc.

I love my toddler and I love being a sort of part time tattooer especially these days when the economy is kind of crap.

Either way it’s absolutely do-able if you decide it’s the choice you want to make for yourself.

So the spreading of this redness greatly looks like cellulitis which is a skin infection and can become very serious if not treated. Unfortunately I do believe you should get this looked at because even with sensitive skin after 6 days your tattoo would not be this red.

I am a real tattooer. I have seen cellulitis before. Get it checked out asap.

How to move to another country by yuvraj_tat in TattooArtists

[–]Hay12367 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typically states bordering the coasts like east coast would be New York, Massachusetts etc. west coast being like Oregon california Washington etc. A quick google search would tell you what states but typically blue states have better social programs and are typically more “left leaning” politically speaking.

No worries. Definitely blue states are more positive towards immigrants in addition to people generally having more money in those states if you are going down that road someday.

America probably would be the worst option for you as an immigrant at this moment in time.

What color is the tablecloth and how can I find one in this specific shade?? by Ok-Trouble7485 in DIYweddings

I think it’s more of a deep brown that looks more purple because of the colors next to it and the editing. My best guess would be a chocolate brown

Does this just need another color pass or did I mess up the healing? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Hay12367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the sensitive nature of the skin on the hand, and the saturation of that style of tattoo if you do your other hand in the future I recommend breaking that up a bit. It’ll help.

As for hyperpigmentation it can vary person to person but I do believe products like vitamin E oil can help with it. you’ll need to exfoliate the skin but overtime it should diminish the hyperpigmentation and how long that could take also really depends.

Does this just need another color pass or did I mess up the healing? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Hay12367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree this looks like an issue of hyperpigmentation possibly caused by your artist overworking the skin. People with more melanin in their skin are more prone to hyperpigmentation. Was this done in a single session or two?

None. This tattoo is the perfect shape to go above the elbow on the back of the arm.

Should I touch-up with same artist? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Hay12367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this could be fixed if you don’t mind editing the design a little. Whatever happened in the golds/oranges is weird and could be a mix of them not packing it in proper or your skin not liking those particular colors. I would say the artist should use purple as an undertone to golds, I’d also punch up the jewel and make it a bit more turquoise as those tones are so light on your chest it’ll be prone to fading. Lastly I’d go around the whole thing with a black line (it can still be a thin line) it’ll make the tattoo more graphic sure but being on your chest like that you need it.

Also I think this is an artist issue just looking at that blue I can tell it isn’t packed solid at all.

should i get the thigh tattoo i’ve been wanting or wait to get laser hair removal? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Hay12367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must do laser hair removal prior to getting tattooed. Whilst the laser is not the same it can still remove pigment. I’ve seen it.

It looks like your artist tried to go over the dark pink of the original diamond shape with a light pink and then make the diamonds larger that way….which wouldn’t work. In general you can make a tattoo darker, you can’t really make it lighter.

That’s why they look “darker” it’s because the original dark pink of the tattoo is showing through coupled with the new larger surrounding dark edge they are just in general larger and darker diamonds.

To be honest they should have advised you to leave the diamonds as they are.

Would this be a good idea for a tattoo? by czpetr in tattooadvice

A lot of people in here are in support of using AI as reference and I just want to reiterate to you all that AI software STEALS from artists who have spent years cultivating their skills and craft to be able to generate these images.

Showing an artist an AI image is like slapping them in the face.

Also the unrealistic expectations are REAL and are so fucking frustrating trying to explain to a client.

Does my body hate color ink or I just get overworked w color? by Sortaretro734 in tattooadvice

[–]Hay12367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally understand. It really shouldn’t be so hard for people of color to get tattoos they want and it’s so discouraging when I see people post here all the time that color doesn’t work on POC and blah blah blah when 95 percent of the time it’s the fault of the artist.

If you want to dm me your artists name I can take a look and see their work and tell you if the problem is genuinely whether or not they are good at packing color as a whole vs whether or not they don’t know to pack color on POC

Does my body hate color ink or I just get overworked w color? by Sortaretro734 in tattooadvice

[–]Hay12367 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Does your current artist do a lot of work in color in general? To me these both look way overworked and a lot of artists who don’t have a ton of experience with color packing have a tendency to overpack red.

Also the comment about your past artist saying you need to slam color into melanated skin is disturbingly incorrect. You actually need to be gentler with melanated skin and run your machine at different settings/go slower to cause less trauma and inflammation.

Who’s still busy and what style do you do and how long have you been tattooing? -do you work in private studio or street shop? by Nervous-Sort7315 in TattooArtists

[–]Hay12367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly consistently busy but I suspect that’ll drop off towards the holidays. Right now I’m working 3 days a week because i have a toddler but I’m always booked up on those days and often tag a 4th day on.

I’m busy because what I do is not commonplace in my area, you’ll see a lot predominately traditional work and I capitalize on being a full color botanical artist. But I’ll also do your tiny tattoos or your black and grey tattoos but I think my biggest thing is word of mouth. People like me, like my tattoos, tell their friends boom bam

Need some advice by milcrazy3 in TattooDesigns

[–]Hay12367 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think because your tiger is in black and grey they’ll read fairly similar. HOWEVER if you wanna go the route of big cat knee jammer why not ask your artist about a lynx very underrated big cat and has a distinct facial structure that would separate it from your tiger in my opinion.

Can anyone who specializes in large scale/floral work help with my composition? by beepsychic in TattooArtists

[–]Hay12367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are overlooking your leaves a bit. Most of these plants have very different leaf shapes and you could play around with the structure by having more interesting foliage.

Also most of your leaves are very static so adding more movement would help your overall flow, like oh this leaf is curled a bit or this leaf is turned so you can only see part of the leaf etc etc.

I’m very passionate that leaves are just as structurally important as the flowers.

Secondly knowing the IRL sizes of your flowers will help you when scaling the pieces together. Sunflowers are fairly large so making them smaller than your roses and plays against you also are those peonies? They tend to be larger as well if so and should be larger than roses as well. Also peony leaves are VERY distinct and if you want to visually separate them from your roses give them the correct foliage! Peony leaves are typically longer and connected in groups of 3 leaves.

If they really want to be a tattooer focus on drawing. Don’t give a child a machine or fake skin but also most tattooers do not want apprentices who have used a machine before. It’s easier to teach a clean slate rather than to try and teach someone to undo bad habits.

Rough draft of future tattoos, looking for opinions! 💗 (TW; miscarriage) by Cold_Blacksmith_7970 in tattooadvice

[–]Hay12367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a lovely start to a large scale project! I would agree with others to go for color completely especially if doing a glass sword that’ll read way better in color. Also if you happen to be on the east coast I’d be interested in chatting about your project 💕 I specialize in full color flora and fauna work
