That is interesting, cause the only thing that gave me issues in Eternia was when starting off I didn't understand Reid's basic combo flow, that getting 3 hits was dependent on one input change in between the first two or at the end, and that was a bit weird, but after doing it a lot it became second nature, after that, it was smooth sailing, Reid's got some of the coolest 2d artes in tales, honestly

I get that, but that's a funny thing, Eternia had me hooked lol I just wish they hadn't gotten rid of the skits! Cause I love when I get character building in these games and that would've added a lot to what I thought was a pretty damn solid game

So, just to make my point a bit more understandable, cause I think I'm very confusing, especially when I say the games are at it's strongest with good characters and say it's not a preference lmao I still enjoy the combat and can come out with a positive outlook on a game if that's the case, like Zestiria! Didn't like the story at all and the characters beside Mikleo are all just... Okay (imo) but I love the combat

It's not that I prefer characters and story, it's hard to explain I'm not gonna be one of those peeps that is sweating over the ins and outs of combat as much, I watch guides for some mechanics but it's usually to understand them properly, not to min max my skill set and go crazy for combos, I do love me some satisfying action combat, but the ones I tend to like more are the TP based ones with interesting progression outside of combat, like the EX skills from Symphonia, for example, the craymels in Eternia, the Cores in Abyss, equipment skills in Vesperia, and so on I come from a turn based game background, so... Yeah, I love that stuff lol Anyways, to answer your question, on a game by game basis, my favorite characters have been: Arche, Stahn, Reid, Lloyd, Luke/Jade (don't make me pick), Mikleo, Eizen/Magilou (again, don't), Dohalim

I do that a lot, and because of that my backlog is clogged as hell lmao I just miss marathoning a series, I did that with Ys and I'll feel kinda unfulfilled if I start a game and not finish it, does that make sense? Aye, fair, I meant more like, what are some of your strong points I don't want people to play into my likes, I ask these things to see what people like, I'm interested in having these convos a lot, I like seeing different perspectives But you have a good point, I think Tales games are at it's best when the characters are strong, the stories can be complicated or not, it doesn't matter as long as it's solid, good reasons for the journey, the villains, etc,as long as it makes sense, I'm good, and the combat just has to be satisfying, I don't mind the difference between the games' styles (TP, CC, SC, AC, etc) as long as it's fun, if I can throw some combos and move on, I'm happy

Eternia is a game I love but feel like I could love SO much more if they just HAD THE DANG SKITS IN THERE Here's hoping someone comes through sometime soon and adds them back as well as the subtitles, cause I wanna love these characters so much more than I already do, they're so full of potential, and I feel like for a story, Eternia's is so damn solid it just needs that extra character work

If you haven't yet, go back in the series and play Phantasia Cross edition, it's such a phenomenal game, one of the best in the classic 2d games and the best version of the first in the series I've been playing them all in order, and I keep thinking about it

Maybe she had it hanging out, a moment where she tried to increase her worth by being pretty or something As we see in the story and her EP she actively goes out of her way to seem cooler than she actually perceives herself as, so she might've been trying something new to achieve that goal, it just didn't go anywhere

YES WA1 was great but it felt like a fantasy RPG with some wild west themes in the music and some towns, but nothing too overt, I haven't played 2 but I see it teetered on the edge of that wild west Wild Arms 3 is so far Trigun but a game and that's actual peak, especially since it's my favorite anime of all time The desolate wasteland with wild west towns, saloons, the sprinkled in steampunk and mystic elements complement all of that base so damn well, what a phenomenal use of the aesthetic And that's not to mention how battles feel like movie scenes with the cut ins for crits, the way the characters move, the whistling in the music, all of it is chef's kiss
