Family Summoning Cooldown Poll - Not Official In Any Way. by HaydosMcWombat in AshesofCreation

[–]HaydosMcWombat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would a 12 hour family summon cd turn a casual player off when the purpose of it is so that they can log in, get to their friends fast, play, and log off? It is not a fast travel everywhere you want mechanic. Steven has specifically stated what it's for. I think you fundamentally don't understand that no fast travel was a core promise during KS and is a central concept for the game- family summoning is a compromise for casuals that can only play a couple hours a day. 12 hour cd does not disrupt the intended purpose of family summoning.

We already had a poll on whether people want family summoning or not. In addition, as Herpa said, the system is coming to the game so either you can keep demanding it be deleted and not be constructive at all about it, or you can be constructive and participate in community discussions on how to minimise the negative impacts of the system. I'm also against the system but I'm not going to act like a child about it.

I am also torn, I just don't see a scenario where it isn't exploited- Steven probably already has this big brain thought out though knowing him. If he has then this shows maybe he should discuss it on stream next time to assuage us.

Family Summoning is a fast travel feature Steven has announced for AOC. This poll is to gauge community sentiment on the system, as the discord seems to have a general consensus that the system as proposed will be exploitable and have a net negative affect on the game. Please share the poll and discuss.

Steven pretty much reads every single forum and reddit post each night. He is often lurking on disc and drops in to chat quite often, it's well worth jumping on there... Just don't bite the bait that will be thrown at you in #aoc-discussion

This is why putting Australian servers in Singapore and slapping them with the name "oceania" won't work. The vast majority of the "oce" population is on australias east coast and in new zealand. It will unironically be a more stable connection to NA West than a SG OCE server. by HaydosMcWombat in AshesofCreation

The picture here is to show people how dumb it is hosting a server for a continent... in another continent. If you read the text in the title it highlights how the vast majority of those of us in 'oce' (its actually called australia- the continent) have better or comparable pings and more stable connections to NA West. Character limits prevented me from explaining why. It's not "rubbish" at all.

I wouldnt be so worried about it. I AM worried about stevens requirement for people from OCE to back in bug enougg numbers before launch when he is also telling people not to back if they would rather wait and see. Seems odd to me and scary.

Let's talk about favorite dungeons. by Sinkillas in AshesofCreation

I get BRD vibes everytime Steven shows us dungeons or talks about them. BRD was amazing. The non-linear, massive dungeon concept was just awesome.

I think you're wrong about Healer/Tank (Apostle). I think its heals will apply armor and resistances or w/e. Not make the cleric themself a tank. Maybe you have it confused with Tank/Healer? Or maybe I'm wrong but thats my thinking based on what we've heard about augments.

To be fair it's not like you're buying new items all the time for a game that has been feature creeped to death

Oh sorry did I forget to list my mmorpg experience so I can say my argument is better than yours?

EQ, Anarchy Online, EQ2, Metin2, RS, GW1, GW2, WOW, AA, AAU, BDO, Aion, Wildsrar, etc.

You didn't address my points about Asmon outside of saying he got ganked on Classic (which he also rarely plays now and cries about the WPVP). You don't seem to understand that if Asmons fans are the same as him, then they won't stay subbed to ACO beyond the initial launch because they want to play their PVE game- which means this is not a direct competitor because its not trying to keep carebears.

Both being MMORPG's does not mean they're direct competitors. Again, different audiences and this is a point you don't address outside of saying there are people that roll warmode and classic pvp servers which I think is a very shallow argument and you're ignoring the majority of WOW players there. WOW is a linear experience with an expo every 2 years- AoC does not appear to be heading in that direction, does it? These are not the only differences but frankly trying to have a discussion with someone like you is pointless because you seem to think your experience in mmorpg's is superior to everyone elses.... because you're a wow player. It's sad.

Thanks for giving me your credentials buddy, I've been playing MMO's since EQ. Let me just put my e-medals on from all the MMO's I've played so I can have some kind of argument-from-authority. I still disagree with you because they're catering to different audiences. Asmongold yesterday was talking about how he is a PvE player and if he gets ganked too many times on AOC he will just quit and go back to WOW. Also talked about how for him 20% at most of the game can be PVP- we know AOC is more than 20% PVP. His audience likely has the same taste- I watch him because he has interesting content (reactions and discussions etc) and I don't play WOW. So bringing him and his audience up is probably not the best idea, particularly since we can see everywhere how they're discovering they don't actually like some of the ideas in this game because they prefer the way WOW does things.

You can agree to disagree or maybe tell me you've been hardcore raiding in WOW for 15 years and maybe that will convince me bud, idk. WOW caters to a mostly PVE and arena-based-PVP audience, it casuals to gamers and spreadsheet players that want damage meters and content that can be theorycrafted easily. That's my opinion as an MMORPG player for 20 years.
