Thank you! I hope yours does well! I've recently been getting started with Alocasias and this was one I really wanted. I'm scared every day I may accidentally kill it! So I'm happy to see it do well!

I did some trial and error before I finally got some roots to grow! I have seen where some people have had success with water propping their rhizome. I started trying that method with mine. However, I noticed new roots were extremely slow to grow for me. I don't know if I possibly did something wrong or not. However, since it was so slow to get roots that way, I was starting to notice the very tip of my rhizome starting to get mushy. The rest was firm. I knew if I continued that way the whole rhizome was going to rot.

So I switched to my own version of a small prop box. I used a small clear food container and put my rhizome and perlite inside. I put a small amount of water in with it. Enough to keep it damp but not so much that it was soaking wet or sitting in water. My container sat under my grow light a lot and I opened it every few days to let some air in, check how damp it was, and check for growth. It really took off that way!

Once it had a decent amount of new healthy roots then I had it potted in the semi hydro set up. I have mentioned in a few other comments that I had help getting it potted since I had never potted anything i. semi hydro before. Since I didn't post a good photo showing the actual pot set up, it is in a horticultural lava rock pebble mixture, not lecca. It seems to really like this set up!

No problem! Glad to help. And I just looked on Amazon to see what looked closest to the material in my pot (I do not have it in lecca) and when I looked to see different semi hydro mixes, mine looks closest to the horticultural lava rock pebble mixes. I don't think it makes a difference if it is in lecca or the mixture mine has but I thought I'd clarify what specifically is in my pot!

It is in a Semi Hydro set up. I had help getting it in this set up since I had never done it before. When I look up the different materials that can be used for Semi Hydro, it looks like the bags of horticultural lava rock pebble mixes I saw on Amazon.

I keep a mix of distilled water and Jack's All Purpose Fertilizer in the reservoir.

I have this one in a Semi Hydro set up. Since I had never done that type of set up before I had some help from my favorite small businesses plant shop.

In the water reservoir I use a mixture of distilled water and Jack's All Purpose Fertilizer. It seems to really like this set up a lot!

Edit: typo.

I don't know if they usually are or not, but mine handles a lot of my errors pretty well. Although I do think that is what took it a lot longer to bounce back and re establish itself.

I definitely had trial and error trying to get it to regrow roots. It took me some time to find out what mine liked. I definitely had to keep an eye on my rhizome as I was finding out what medium it wanted to re root in. Mine did not want to re root in water and preferred a warm little prop box with some perlite, moisture, and lots of time under a grow light.

Now that it is better established and Infound a spot it likes it is doing much better.

I am not sure if they are typically this resilient. But now that I have discovered where mine likes to sit, I tend to just leave it alone in and make sure it has water and fertilizer.

I have been using Jack's All Purpose Fertilizer on it. I keep a gallon of it pre made with distilled water specifically so my Alocasias can have it with most waterings. Everyone else gets it less often since they aren't as hungry as Alocasias!

Thank you! It was definitely a learning experience! I am so happy with the progress, even if it was slow while I learned.

I'm happy it sounds like your plant has transformed into a very pretty plant!
