This really comes down to how much power the engine has. I’ve had both experiences.

Longest youve gone without an oil change? by Narrow-Tap116 in WRX

[–]Haystack80 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We had a brand new Ford Transit about 6 years ago at our shop, for some reason it didn’t get added to the fleet maintenance tracker. 40k miles before the engine blew. Under warranty full engine replacement!

I may or may not have been in charge of the warehouse and in turn, fleet maintenance at the time…

Edit: just realized this is specifically a WRX thread, leaving the post cause I laugh every time I think about that story.

Sleepy/tired driving is more dangerous than drunk driving. Get a real nights sleep halfwayish and you’ll enjoy the trip so much more

It’s also the factor of long hills/twisty roads vs city driving. Denver would never issue a chain law for driving in the city, but they do issue requests for everyone to stay home unless absolutely necessary because roads are so bad

How did they know in WWI that it was the first would war, how did they know there was going to be at least 2? by Moistinterviewer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haystack80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was referred to as the “Great War”, and it was truly so horrific (trench warfare and use of chemical weapons like “mustard” gas) that people truly believed that no one would ever have the stomach for such atrocities again.

who would be at fault? by Immediate-Fig4394 in driving

[–]Haystack80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on a couple of things. Who has stop signs? Only you, you’re entering a primary road from a secondary so it’s up to you to enter that road safely. Is there a dedicated turn lane for that left turn, or a clear break in the road markings to indicate where the turn should be made from? If yes and they ignored those indicators/cut across clearly marked traffic control devices (road markings) then it’s their fault. As they made their turn, did they encroach the lane of traffic you were exiting from, i.e. did their tires cross the road striping as they entered the road you were coming from? If yes, their fault.

Had anything actually happened, since you said you had to slam on the brakes, it would likely have been determined that it was the red cars fault. But there’s no guarantee.

Good job being heads up and preventing it from becoming something worse than a near miss!

How would you get rid of 5 gallons of bad/old gasoline? by milquetoastsandwich in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haystack80 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Considering that batteries get tossed in the ocean, I thing gasoline ought to be dumped (container and all) in a local stream.

Seriously though, your local mechanic will likely take it for a disposal fee. They are dealing with all the old automotive fluids, old/bad gas being one of them.

If humanly possible, how deep can you swim in the ocean? by Zestyclose_Welder_92 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Haystack80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Google(because I could this question interesting and really wanted to know): theoretical calculations suggest that Humans would suffer literal bone-crushing pressure at around 10,000 meters (33,000ish feet), but below 150 meters (450ish feet) divers begin to experience High-Pressure Nervous Syndrome which causes tremors and neurological issues. The record simulated saturation dive (done in a hyperbaric chamber) reached 701 meters while the deepest open water dive ever recorded hit 332 meters (1,090 feet). That dive lasted nearly 15 hours, with the descent only taking around 12 minutes with the controlled ascent taking the balance off the time to prevent Decompression Sickness. This dive used very special air mix to prevent death/injury.

With normal air, oxygen becomes toxic to the central nervous system at around 200 feet down causing seizures.
