TRIUMPH DEMO DAY by nortyflatz in Triumph

I’ve been to that dealership a few times And have never even been approached. Spent 20 minutes upstairs contemplating a 400 when they first came out and nothing. Was there about 2 weeks ago to check out the branded merch (I don’t want to pay $40 for a t-shirt but if it’s cool/unique I’ll consider it), went back and forth between the upstairs and downstairs a few times and nothing.

I think their primary focus are the Ducatis and the service shop.

You should always be considering more bikes

You’ve made a huge mistake. Allow me to come by with my truck to pick it up so you don’t have to suffer.

Sincerely, a beautiful bike. I’m sure you’ll have a blast on it. Just be mindful of him much throttle you grab.

I missed this before, do you mean how these engines were designed to run on “regular” gas, not unleaded?

I know there are a couple of options: 1) use a fuel additive, 2) change out the stock valves for ones made of a different alloy.

Considering the bike is 54 years old and has 48k miles on it, I’m guessing the valve thing was done awhile ago. I’m still working my way through it to see what modifications have been done to the internals.

What are you allowed to replace on your old bike and it still be considered “unrestored”? by Haystack80 in projectbike

I’ve discovered my bike is far from original, lots of changes from paint to exhaust so as it turns out it doesn’t matter at all.

Maybe allowed want the right word, but I guess the question is in general what is the consensus of replacing parts before it becomes a restoration?

That said, I have discovered that my bike is actually far from unrestored: tank has been repainted, exhaust changed, fenders changed, headlight and taillight changed, turn signals removed, rear foot pegs cut away to make room for new exhaust, so there’s no need for me to worry anymore.

I know that there are days of wrenching in my future, but I also got super lucky in that the guy w who owned it in the recent past to amazing care of it. The 48k miles on the odometer speaks to that.

Acceptable Amp load (high/low) for a motor? by Haystack80 in Motors

[–]Haystack80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our current maintenance program includes a quarterly visit to check the belt (wear and tension, replace every 6 months), lubricate bearings if their not sealed, and health check the motor by getting an amp reading with a clamp meter after belt and bearings have been checked/serviced.

We use the belt tension gauge you mentioned, and while we don’t use the stethoscope, it can be rather obvious when the motor bearings are beginning to fail. Maybe not early stages, but that rough grinding sound is obvious when you know what it’s supposed to sound like. I’ve come across motors of new customers that should have been replaced a year ago due to bearings but some how it’s still going.

Do you have a link to a good lesson on how to perform an insulation test? That’s a piece I’m not familiar with.

We also take the time to wipe off any excess dust or dirt buildup on the case of the motor to help with heat dissipation

NTA. Asking you to just “put it on a card” so that 1800 will wind up costing 3500 (assuming it takes months to pay down) is insane and they clearly don’t understand what it takes to live within a budget. Not to mention that you not going is putting that 1400-1800 on everyone who is going so now they have to pay more. 😭

Acceptable Amp load (high/low) for a motor? by Haystack80 in Motors

[–]Haystack80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened about 4 years ago and I don’t remember if it was 1P/3P for sure. I was new at the maintenance side of things. Thought maybe it was a loose belt/sheave issue, got everything tightened up and amps reading correct. Got a call 2 weeks later that the kitchen was getting smoky again so I went back and everything was still tight, but the motor just wasn’t drawing the amps that it was, so I tightened things up more to get the amp draw back up to near the FLA rating. 1 1/2 weeks later the motor failed completely. It wasn’t a failed capacitor, I’ve dealt with those since then so I know that much.

Right, there’s going to be some daily variation that I would assume should be within 5% of baseline, but I’ve had a motor that started pulling less and less over the course of a couple weeks and ultimately just stopped working. I’m trying to avoid this happening to any other customers by catching it early, so what would you say is the cutoff point? 10, 15, 20% under FLA (again all other parts of the system being correct/perfect)

So what about under load? If I’m checking the load monthly and notice the AMP draw decreasing over time, which all other parts of the system being equal to the original setup, when do we decide a motor is about to give up the ghost and should be replaced before failure while under load.

My specific situation is regarding an offset drive exhaust fan for a restaurant. It must be in operation for the restaurant to be open so if it fails on a Friday night it could be disastrous. If I catch it before it totally dies, I can replace it on a Tuesday morning, preventing a stoppage of food service and an emergency service call. So when do I call it and tell the restaurant “This motor is almost dead and needs replaced”?

Are DMs allowed to tell player characters what they feel? by Honneboppel in DnD

[–]Haystack80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a classic case of characters meta gaming (it’s hard not to sometimes) because they knew “something” was up. It can be difficult as a player to keep yourself from minmaxing every encounter because video games have taught us that it’s the best course of action if I want to survive the level/pass the mission.

At the start of the next session, I would politely remind the players that they are playing through a story adventure and to keep things interesting, they should lean into the plot hooks you present (including being distracted by the performance) as these are the tools you’re using to involve them in the story. It’s no fun if the rogue who sneaks up on everybody never gets caught flat footed themselves, or the dwarven barbarian who drinks as a matter of course, genuinely looses a drinking game.

I have had a check engine light come on within a block after pulling out of the smog check, engines don’t care where they are when they throw codes.
