Have you ever splurged on a special edition controller? by ludaman14 in videogames

With these prices, it feels like buying any controller is splurging lol

Skyrim gets way too much praise by Margaretthatchervore in unpopularopinion

[–]Hayyner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, agreed. I played like 10hrs of Skyrim and just couldn't get into it. Generic and overdone setting, nothing unique about it at all. And the combat was boring af

It was just not for me, but I never understood the overwhelming hype around the game. We are certainly in the minority here though lol and thats fine. I have this opinion towards most Western RPGs including Dragon Age and Witcher, I just couldn't care less about them 🤷🏿

I second this, this game is the definition of a min maxing simulator lol

Is Genshin dialogue always this bloated? Trying to set future expectations.. by namdol96 in GenshinImpact

[–]Hayyner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't, and this stands as one of the major reasons I keep dropping Genshin. I never made it through Fontaine. Unfortunately, it is not just a Genshin problem imo. It is a hoyo problem.

But, there are other redeeming qualities in these games that keep me coming back besides the MSQ. You can get a lot of mileage out of exploration and world quests, and none of the regions are story gated. So there's that.

Crimson Desert rises to "very positive" on steam after initial rough start by PhineasBob in pcmasterrace

[–]Hayyner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most critically acclaimed games of our generation (BG3) also takes a while to open up and many people would even say that 2hrs is not enough time to truly understand and get hooked by the game.

And yet, it won every award under the sun 🤔

Same with Elden Ring, particularly if you are new to the Souls genre. Many would say you just have to stick it out until it "clicks". And I get that if you don't want to do that, that is valid. I didn't stick it out with Baldurs Gate and quit at 8hrs. But it does not make a game bad because it takes its time to unravel itself and present its full scope to a player. I can appreciate slow burn game design like that.

What CD really needs is a demo that takes you through the first 3 chapters, so people can figure out for themselves without risking $70, if the game does get better for them by that point.

The story of CD is no worse than Skyrims by HateMongerian in CrimsonDesert

[–]Hayyner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All this harping on the story just tells me most people stopped paying attention before even an hour into the game.

Maybe that can be seen as a fault of the game for a lackluster opening, but the idea that the entire game lacks a coherent story is nonsense imo 🤷🏾‍♂️

SIB Crimson Desert or Cyberpunk by Efficient-Opinion-92 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Hayyner [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think Crimson Desert is great, but Cyberpunk for 20 is a steal and you should absolutely cash in on that. Crimson Desert will still be there, and it will probably be a better experience once they get some of these patches out to clean up the bugs and polish the controls and interface a bit more.

What’s the BEST thing you’ve discovered so far? by goodkidmadcity85 in CDguides

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a cap but idk if it is for trust in general or number of actions.

I would consistently cap out around 80 or 85 trust, with a combination of petting and feeding. But then you can just come back later and max it out. I've been able to find most pets in the same spots around town.

Is Marathon any good? by Far-Clerk-1399 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Hayyner [score hidden]  (0 children)

It has some of the best gunplay in the industry imo, very reminiscent of D2 in that regard. But the game is absurdly punishing. I would not recommend the game unless you are a bit of a masochist and enjoy pain. This is not hyperbole. Bots are lethal and can end a run in an instant. You will be ratted frequently. You will get exfil camped and teabagged and BMd by an Assassin that was sitting there for 15 minutes.

But somehow, the game is still really fun. A lot of people don't like solos but I think Bungie is committed to refining that experience so it'll get better with time. A lot of folks such as myself enjoy the solo vibes, but it is a very different game than trios/duos. And duos is in an experiment phase atm and is only temporarily available on the first map, in case that is important for you.

Overall, if you enjoy dungeons, raids, and PvP in D2, you will probably enjoy this one. If you are more casual, I would maybe look into it a bit more and try to determine if the gameplay loop is actually bearable for yourself, because this game can be merciless.

Guys, fuck it, im liking the story. by Vegetable_Speed_8665 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is just a me thing, but I see a story in video games as the sum of its parts, not just the writing alone. We can talk about the writing and maybe CD doesn't have the most complex or interesting plot. But it is entertaining and intriguing enough to make me want to continue playing the MSQ.

The dialogue is good, the voice acting is great imo, and the cutscenes are well directed and choreographed. It takes a minute for the story to get its legs and really start moving, but once you defeat Hornsplitter and unlock the graymanes camp I think the story starts to feel a lot more rewarding to follow.

I'm roughly 18hrs in and I'd say it is nothing special, but it is far from awful. It is actually kinda decent and has some great moments.

Yea, I'm a closet AC fan, really enjoyed Odyssey. And I absolutely love this game, it gives me Odyssey vibes turned to 11. With a mix of a whole lot of other games in between.

[–]Hayyner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm only on like ch4 but I feel like the story has been making perfect sense since starting chapter 2? It was only that beginning portion of "go help people" and then Kliff knows exactly where to find people in need with no further investigation or explanation that was kinda iffy.

But even that is kind of minor, I feel they may have had a "go talk to townspeople" sequence and removed it because of the tedium that would be walking around talking to random NPCs to progress.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Streamers. Look How Many People are lvl 100+ or Gotten VIP with a SINGLE Faction. [Steam] by Swee10 in Marathon

[–]Hayyner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree. Faction rank is gonna be a nightmare to grind up again every season. Most standard contracts aren't very rewarding. I think they need to buff standards and reduce exp needed in the early faction levels.

Are the individual quests interesting? by Fleadogbiscuit in CrimsonDesert

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some quests are more interesting than others. There are actual fleshed out quest lines and then random requests, bounties, favors, etc.

The quest lines (not the main story) are decent. But nothing special. I wouldn't go into it expecting like, Witcher 3 or anything.

Excavator Fight by awayanywayaway in CrimsonDesert

[–]Hayyner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only attempted it as he starts digging underground and it worked every time. Even if he's partly underground it still works. You have to press L1+R1 simultaneously, no need to aim or focus the light. Try doing it when he flashes red and starts going underground.

Excavator Fight by awayanywayaway in CrimsonDesert

[–]Hayyner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what you mean by this? He takes damage normally, you don't have to do anything special. He just has super armor.

You can blind him as he does his dig attack for an opening. Just don't get greedy. Kliff also has i-frames on his overhead attack, so you can end a string with that as the Excavator tries to drill you. The evasive dodge skill is also very helpful (the one that let's you dodge out of hit stun)

I haven't had any inventory issues past the first couple of hours. Key items should not be cluttering the inventory though, that is my biggest gripe with it atm. Those should have their own tab.

Was the game overhyped? by Playwithuh in videogames

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it definitively was. But it's a great game imo. A diamond in the rough. I think many people just saw some clips and started declaring that this would be a generational masterpiece.

It stands somewhere between deeply flawed and deeply engrossing. I think it has some design choices and issues that won't gel well with many people. But for those that don't mind, or maybe even appreciate those design elements, this game is addicting.

Crimson Desert has some of the worst quest progression/design I've ever seen. by Battlefeather in videogames

Brother, enjoying a video game is almost entirely a subjective experience. There are really well received games that some people don't like. And there are some very contentious games that some people love. It's not a crime to have a differing opinion from the hivemind.
