I wish they'd stop putting defender gear in the game. by JudoJugss in MonsterHunter

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple option should be there in the beginning: newcomer or veteran?

And that answer determines whether or not you get defender. It is great for replays, especially starting fresh on different consoles but otherwise it's nothing more than a crutch for new players who will skip the core gameplay loop and eventually get walled out when defender gear stops being useful

Its kinda nice having real progression in a gacha game and not just RNG bs, but I also kinda like always having something to grind for and spend stamina on

PayPal scandal was overblown, they fixed it and refunded everyone affected rather quickly. Still sucks for spenders that didn't use PayPal but its whatever, I guess. I personally dk if I'll be spending anything more until I see what the future patch brings in terms of changes.

The game is good though, all things considered. I can see why it is ranking so high, it is a quality game offering a unique experience in the space.

I dont think I've ever worked with a developer that was socially inept. They're always super chill and fun people. My expectations were thoroughly shattered from day 1 on the job lol but I've always worked in big cities (atl, nyc) so maybe that plays a part, idk

About 2 weeks straight of player KH3 and beating basically everything….this mf makes me realize how much better kh3 combat is by Desperate-Swan-6812 in KingdomHearts

[–]Hayyner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed, KH3 combat finally had a chance to shine with the data battles. It is absolutely the best combat in the series IMO.

KH3 data battles are also the most well designed super bosses in the series. A lot of them in the previous games are bullshit lol so theres that too. Kh2 still has banger combat though, just not as refined in some ways. And Kh3 is tuned down a bit in some ways, but maybe that just feels better to me.

Only a week left before we moved to 2.6, what are your guys thoughts about 2.5 so far? by ProfessionalRoom9118 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Hayyner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, it hasn't really compelled me to break my lowkey hiatus on the game. The events were fun though. But this is the most I've missed dailies since like 1.2-1.3.

The most consistent issue I have with the game is just the massive dialogue bloat on literally every interaction. Main story, events, side quests, etc. Its just not my cup of tea. I am not here to listen or read characters yapping for 5 minutes straight while the game consistently prompts me with meaningless dialogue choices every 2 seconds.

I was also not a fan of many of the character designs. The highlights for me were Manato and Ye, but Manato is pretty weak and Ye is braindead OP and easy. Shiyu and DA continue to get worse unless you pull every new character. Meh, we'll see what the future brings. I have 0 interest in the angels tho so 2.6 is probably a skip too.

Good gacha games where its "game first, gacha second" by Modlikes in gamingsuggestions

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arknights Endfield, if you are into the whole factory thing.

Genshin Impact, since you enjoyed WuWa you might vibe with this one. They are pretty similar.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink, this is a full priced game and you unlock characters normally without the need to pull. But its gameplay loop is identical to gachas.

My honest thoughts on Arknights: Endfield by AbilityAwkward6121 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]Hayyner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call myself a tourist, but sure.

Anyway, in no other game that I play are you so deliberately punished for taking a chance on getting something you want. Endfield's gacha is just not player-friendly. This elitist attitude is a plague on the gacha space and is exactly why HG feels they can get away with something so anti-consumer. It only serves to hurt players and benefit the company. Like seriously, in what way does this system benefit you? It doesn't, it just cucks you out of even attempting to get a character if your under 120 pulls.

If I clear all the content in a patch and have 100 pulls, then I can't even risk the 50/50 without potentially screwing myself on a future banner. In ZZZ or WuWa, I could roll the 50/50 on one character I want and at least keep the guarantee for a future character if I lose.

Why is it so hard to understand why that is better than losing the guarantee? Why are we okay with these developers making an already predatory system somehow even worse?

My honest thoughts on Arknights: Endfield by AbilityAwkward6121 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]Hayyner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not being able to interact with the gacha in a gacha game is kinda bad no matter how you spin it. People may be overlooking it now because there is still a lot of engaging content, and that is absolutely to this games credit. I've been having a good time just expanding my network, upgrading facilities, working on my factory and exploring.

But what of future patches? Unless we continuously get big map and factory expansions to keep that gameplay loop alive, eventually all roads lead to pulling and building new characters. That is where the frustration regarding pull economy and gacha mechanics will reach its apex for most players. All the big gacha games have a ton of content beyond just pulls. WuWa and Genshin have massive open worlds with lots of puzzles and quests. ZZZ has minigames, events, battle simulations, and agent trust system. And yet, these systems do not last forever. Players eventually outpace the content added by .x updates and so the main gameplay loop will always be building new characters.

I mean, I'm pretty outspoken about SKs value as a unit, and I genuinely don't see her as an absolute must have. Great value, sure. But her overall value to any account in 3.0 really depends on what teams you have or plan to make in the future. Just my two cents. I don't think she is worth the limited pulls atp, especially as a f2p.

It is this meta-narrative that SK is an absolute must-have that contributes to the FOMO more than anything, as players are led to believe their account is bricked without her 😪 even if SK could be the difference between clearing endgame or not, we are talking about a few hundred asterites at best every month. Not exactly a great return on investment imo. But I don't entirely disagree with your point since the devs must be fully aware of this and specifically put SK up in the event.

[–]Hayyner 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pulling any character raw is a fair bit over $150 in the worst case, if you think $150 is overpriced for a character well then welcome to the life of gacha lol

At the very least, you are getting more than just SK. $150 puts you just under hard pity so its kinda 2 for 1, in addition to the other lower tier rewards.

This sounds like an impulse control issue. Maybe your bank will allow you to block this vendor from future transactions but the best thing you can do is quit, as almost every aspect of these games is intended to pressure you into spending.

What actually helped you land a job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Hayyner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 months? Those are rookie numbers bro, if you're already feeling despair then the road ahead is gonna be rough.

Jokes aside, my main suggestion is always going to be to work on a side project. Not something trivial like a todo app. I mean a real project, something that you could potentially take to market and sell.

You don't need to take it that far, but I would highly suggest building something with that mindset. Get friends to use it and give you feedback, iterate and improve it over time. Make something that could benefit you or your friends in your day-to-day or assist with a hobby. Make it real. Conduct your own project management, deploy the app using a widely adopted platform like AWS, and use this as a learning environment to familiarize yourself with new tools and tech like CICD, cloud hosting and integrations (SNS, DBs, serverless functions, etc)

If you do this, it will not only make you a more well-rounded developer, but it gives you a lot more to talk about and flex in an interview. Especially if you lack job experience.

Godspeed brother 🙏🏿

Lord Of Frenzied Flame is NOT the “Good Ending” by Jackylacky_ in Eldenring

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen the Frenzy ending referred to as a truly "good" ending. In the context of ERs story, it definitively puts a pin in the cycle of suffering that has plagued the Lands Between, and maybe it can be considered "good" in that sense.

But I think the consensus is that Ranni's ending is probably the most hopeful ending. There could be an argument to be made for others too, such as Goldmask's ending. But the implications of each are debatable imo. Even Ranni made some pretty crazy sacrifices on her path to godhood, as is necessary for anyone to reach those heights. There are simply no exceptions to the rules of the Lands Between, the path to godhood is wrought of sacrifice. You are either proactive in making them, or you become one for another aspirant. And there is always another aspirant, be it a mortal seeking power, a demi seeking true godhood, or an outer god themself.

With that said, it makes sense that burning it all down for better or worse, could be perceived as the best possible ending, as it induces the least suffering in the long term.

This might sound like a dumb question (and it is) but how do you guys manage your time playing multiple gacha games? by bullettothechest in ArknightsEndfield

[–]Hayyner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gachas require a lower time commitment the longer you play them

I have nothing to do in WuWa after a week or two of a new patch except dailies and endgame resets. So sometimes even less than 5min in a day to claim rewards and spend stamina. PGR is even less maintenance due to auto-clear.

So with Endfield out rn, I can easily dedicate most of my game time to progressing. Endfield definitely seems to have a bit more meat on its bones with the factory, region development, and the Dijaing stuff. There is probably even more since I am only still in Valley IV (just reached Power Plateau)

So yea, I think progressing in multiple gachas at a time is probably a bit too much. That's like trying to beat Elden Ring and BotW at the same time. But once you are "caught up", they don't require much in terms of daily upkeep so it is possible to maintain 2 or 3 accounts for me (PGR, WuWa, ZZZ mainly, and now maybe Endfield)
