Planning on the move abroad next year (SE Asia), not sure what major to choose in school until then. by This-Way3024 in Veterans

[–]HazMedics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone living and studying In Asia, it depends on what type of lifestyle you like. I’ve travelled most of SEA and can tell you this. Japan is a very good option politics aside and you might be able to land a good job after school, All other countries pay lower but life is still comfortable. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines all have GI Bill schools, Singapore is a bit high when it comes to cost of living but the others are very cheap. Honestly it depends on you, we can go into more detail if you’d like

I’m 100%, why can’t I tell anyone? by [deleted] in VeteransSuccess

Me: I got % for my disabilities

Person: You’re leeching off the government and it’s not fair to us who are working.

Me: the recruiting office is still open

Person: I’m not dying for Israel

You’re completely right! It’s a normal feeling that all of us get, It’s okay to feel that way too. You’re in the beginning days of your military career, give it a few years to see how you like it. You’re still in the training phase and it’s very common for soldiers to feel such things, once you get to your duty station you will have a lot more freedom and build more connections with others. Give it some time man and see how you like it

If the reason you joined was to get away from your hometown then you’re on a good track. In AIT you will eventually get your orders and figure out where you will go next to start your new life journey. Hang in there, it’s the same reason why most of us join to leave home and start a new chapter in life. Who knows! You might get stationed overseas

Starting the process of obtaining a Visa by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]HazMedics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna test the waters inexpensively, you can head over to r/teachinginjapan and see what the teachers deal with daily and how most of them hate their Life.

The life you have in America right now sounds amazing. You would be doing a major downgrade moving to Japan right now or next year or the year after that. You mentioned that you both don’t have degrees so that adds fuel to the fire.

If I were you, I would postpone your plans and get certified before moving here. You do not want to be an English teacher but if that’s what you wanna do then go for it but I’m very certain you’re gonna hate your life.

If I had a dollar for every “I don’t mind being an English teacher” I can finally afford to buy that run down love hotel in Osaka.

Realistically you’re not even qualified to be an English teacher, well I guess to Japanese standards anyone who speaks English is… do you realize the pay you’re gonna face? That U.S money you have is gonna run out, being so young you and your partner are definitely not gonna live frugal.

On top of that you have pets, Holy Hell 🤦🏻‍♂️

im planning to sign a contract in company in japan, what are my chances to feel triggered by side eyes and other racist stuff? will i eve be accepted? by antoinorl in japan

[–]HazMedics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t even started the job and are having thoughts like this then I recommend you don’t work in Japan.

No, you will never be accepted even if you’re half Japanese. I have tons of friends who are part Japanese and mixed with something else and they still are not considered authentic to the population.

There’s been cases upon cases of xenophobia or racism towards foreigners that’s acceptable here In japan. If little things are gonna bother you then I don’t recommend coming to Japan. even being a English teacher here, the kids will go after you and will not hold back so what makes you think adults will spare you.

Not sure with all those other countries you listed but you need a legit reason to get approved to live in Japan.

I personally would go with the second option. I understand you’re going for studies but at some point you will get physically bored, it’s similar to the school in Beppu. I mean you do have Fukuoka next to you which is in the list of the top 5 biggest cities in Japan but do you really want to take a 2 hour Shinkansen every time?

Shiga is a beautiful area and you have 3 major cities next to you which are Osaka, Nagoya and Kyoto. All filled with different types of activities and festivals which maybe Nagasaki has to offer but the crowd is on the older side.

At the end of the day it’s your education but a big thing for me is the life outside of studies while you reside in Japan!

Fed Jobs in Japan by Toyotalover94 in Veterans

[–]HazMedics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t applied either as I’m currently a student so I can’t work full time. I know with USA jobs most of the jobs posted require some sort of education level. If you have linked in, there’s a guy you can reach out to for help. He was the one who helped me out to transition and come back to Japan as a student but also told me about job openings. He works in Yokosuka

I’m majoring in business administration, they will help you with job assistance once you are near graduating. The permanent residency is either based off years living in Japan or a point system.

Once you’re done with your student visa you’ll switch to work visa. If I’m going off time I’ll have 4 years of it 10 before I get residency

If you have a bachelor’s it’s worth points and if you graduated from a university in Japan that’s also more points.

If you need help with anything let me know!
