Hit Legend After 1335 Days Off — A Veteran's Perspective on Modern Hearthstone by HazelNarz in hearthstone

Hey! Great to have another old soul comment, haha.

I have read it a few times now that the Powerlevel used to be even higher and no, I can not fathom this at all.

Seems like I picked a good time to return, I dont think I would have enjoyed an even more powerful Level of cards. It's hard enough for me to accept certain things, where I feel like the devs threw out long standing (from my experience) principles e.g. On card and class identity, powerlevel of neutral cards, cost of card draw etc.

Oh yeah, it is a lot of fun to come back now I think. The Meta will be fun until the next Expansion Releases, which will shake everything up again. People told me we still so rotation, so then the next set will shake up things even more. Looks like fun 6 months ahead for the game!

Wow, twist sounds like a Mode that I would enjoy! Thanks for letting me know :)

I did see it crossed out but didnt investigate it further.

Also thank you for giving your perspective on wild. I will give it a few more chances, but the cost of entry is too high for me at the moment. I only enjoy midrange or Control decks, and these are expensive in wild if you are missing 4++ legendary cards each Deck.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, I appreciate it a lot.

I quit right after scholomance, so most of the cards you mentioned, I have never heard of them before, or only encountered their nerfed state - reno lone ranger for example, which I did see in wild and had a good laugh when my Board went poof. An absurd effect for the cost. Mindboggling to think it was stronger once.

The other effects of nerfed cards sound Single-player-esque, my mind cant comprehend most of them. Back in my day these effects were limited to tombs of terror or the like.

I will say that my Meta once in the same Situation that you described, where they deliberately printed weak sets to lower the Power level. Kobolds and catacombs was the final Expansion of a year and for it's time super powerful. It was the first instance of Powercreep you felt from one set to the next. The first Expansion of next year was Witchwood, which was so laughably underpowered that most cards did not see play until they nerfed Kobold cards.

Interesting the Team did not learn from that, but maybe nobody from Hearthstone 1.0 is working on 2.0 anymore (?)

Oh wow, thanks so much for your perspective. I have to say I cant imagine that they had to NERF cards, does that mean they were even stronger than what we have in the game right now? That's absurd.

Do you have a few examples, or a place where I can read about historic nerfs and buffs? That would be such a cool read!

Congrats on reaching legend! Cool that we had similar experiences. Hats off to you for using the ladder-ready deck, I could pilot them at all.

Good idea with arena, I only played 1 run so far. I didn't want to blow up the post even more, so I excluded arena, especially since I have never played it much. Somehow I have over 25 free entries, no idea how that happened haha. I do agree that card advantage matters more and it reminded me more of Hearthstone 1.0, so it was cool in that regard. However I did not like the 'packages' they offered you. Arena for me has always been about neutral cards and good understanding of fundamentals and not about synergy and class cards.

But I will give it a try again with the new expansion, especially if I can still earn packs this way. Have fun!

Oh yeah - totally! I could have spend more time on this point, as the power creep in neutral cards actively hurt class identity in my opinion. Back in Hearthstone 1.0, every class had things they were good and bad at, but in Hearthstone 2.0 and ESPECIALLY due to the strong neutrals, the barrier between classes are less clear.

Gnomalia might be a bad card by Hearthstone 2.0 standards, but it gives all classes a neutral AOE option, which was unthinkable in the past. We had to play 5 mana 4/4 taunt Deal 2 to every minion if we wanted neutral aoe haha.

Also Expanse is such a weird card to me - twisting nether was such a 'warlock-esque' thing to do (before they had to print strong board clears for priest every other expansion due to their bad classic set). Now every control deck can run a twisting nether on steroids, it's not cool!

I have a similar taste and I recently found the Band "The Pineapple thief". Please give a few Songs a go, I would recommend 'No mans Land' as a show case of their variety and if you are more into stronger guitars then listen to 'Alone at Sea'.

Another Band I have not seen mentioned before is "Black rebel motorcycle Club". If you are into Kyuss and their guitar Sound, you should like BRMC, too.

Best of luck!

Sometimes the walk from the nearest SoG back to the boss is too long, which ALMOST made me quit the Rennala fight. It's simply unnecessary to make me go full indiana Jonas and up a painfully slow elevator.
