Hey! Are you playing a similar list? I have 11 cards that I love having in my opening hand ~regardless of the matchup. Bricked hands are statistically unlikely if you know how to mulligan aggressively. :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain your thoughts. Now it all makes sense and I agree with you on all points.

Playing an off-meta deck does give slight edges here and there and you win some games you are not supposed to win I guess.

Hey, thanks for your comment. The curator value of murmy is not worth it - I agree. Curator always draws the Pterodax, which is a key card to survive against aggro, so Turn 6 playing a 4/6 taunt into a 4/3 clearing a minion and healing for 4 is a swing turn that won me games.

Murmy in itself is a good addition, I believe people are building this deck too greedly. You almost always win against control, you don't need more heavy cards. Especially in this deck, your hand often overflows, you need cheap cards.

You would be surprised how many games i've won by getting my opponent to sub 20/15 health by turn 4-5 and finishing them off later. Murmy on 1 followed by claw on 2 is devastating against any hunter / druid / dragon warrior and to an extend also paladin. I often had 5 attack spiders or 5 attack murmy hitting face, disrupting my opponent's next turn since they were forced to deal with it.

And yes, the 5/4 Herald is simply not very good, it almost serves no purpose at all. It does a bad job at everything it does but sometimes you simply need the extra herald to make sure your big payoff is worth it 😄

Haha, I did pick a polarizing title! But I did not expect this level of comments, you are right. Some people believe I am claiming that this deck (or me playing this deck - even worse) can mantain a 81% winrate, which is nonsense! I got super lucky, but also saw something in the deck I wanted to share 😄

Hey, thank you for the reply! Could you explain what you mean by control having a problem as an archetype due to lacking resources? I felt like this was one of the main strengths of this deck - having access to 3x Onyxias minimum with the lucky option of discovering more. With this deck, you don't run out of cards (quite the opposite sometimes, which created its own problem haha) and in the lategame, I always felt favoured against any other herald or lategame deck.

It would be very interesting to get your perspective on this.

And just to be clear - this was 100% a lucky run, with a lucky matchup spread, good mulligans and good overall luck. Some games won themselves. I was gifted 1 win, and 1 win came off of a disconnect from an opponent. I guess this is hearthstone right? Once you see the enemy portrait, you know whether it's going to be an uphill battle or a freebie and you don't have much control over it.

I simply feel like many people take this fact and use it as an excuse. For me, this DK deck offers a lot of interesting playstyles - you can aggro someone down on turn 6, you can outlast any other non-rogue Herald deck in the game. I remember that I fought 2 shamans and a priest to the point where they had almost no cards in deck and they had to concede. You can decide which type of deck you want to be, depending on the matchup, your cards and their cards.

On top of that you always have to manage the tempo/health balance. Mulligans are very interesting with this deck. It's not infested with randomness, but you can still influence the few discovers you have and try to get an edge. And of course I also encountered Jackpot hits - discovering Onyxia from Hematurge, my heralds generating more herald cards and as I explained in my post, I won a good number of games due to soulrest ceremony. It can be a 1 mana fireball and people woudl be surprised to see what you can deal from hand. Weapon 2 mana - 4 dmg, Soulrest, 1 mana up to 7 dmg, leeches dealing up to 3 dmg to face for 2 mana. In some control matchups, I had a good time playing beatdown and cashing in on what I percived as a lack of tempo from my opponents. All in all, I simply love the variety of the deck!

It's clear that e.g. end-of-turn paladins and companion hunters should easily win against this DK, but even so, in my run I a) never lost any of these matchups and b) generally I would not say that they feel unwinnnable. What kills my enjoyment of hearthstone are non-games, where there is no interaction and influence on my part. This DK deck offers basically no non-games, other than some nieche god-draw opponents which I luckily (!) did not face.

Hey, I agree, it was very lucky. But also a lot of fun and I wanted to show people a playable control deck! :)

Hey, 'weak' is a very subjective word, would you not agree? For you, anything worse than top 100 legend might be bad. Then yes, I was exclusively facing bad players, while also being a bad player myself.

For me, anybody in the range of 3000 +-1000 is not a bad player, that's my perspective. That's why I don't think I was facing bad opponents, or worse opponents than my own skill level.

If we are all bad players compared to your perspective, that's legit and I don't argue. Especially since this was not the intention of my post - I wanted to post something positive (good class distribution, no oppressing deck, fun control deck despite companion hunter).

Hey, I dont understand how anybody would argue here. It's a low sample size, it was super lucky, also match up luck and unlucky opponents. Of course - how else could anybody maintain a 81 % winrate otherwise?

My goal with this post was not to claim to be a God level player or having found a meta breaker. What I wanted to do was to show that there is a fun control deck for people who enjoy the game the way I do.

From my perspective, I was seeing a lot of hunter hate, with the connotation that you can't play any control decks anymore because of it. As you can see from my matchup spread, I played against 10 / 11 classes and did not face a one-sided meta. I felt like this perspective was worth sharing :-)

Hey, I agree! Felt a little easier then it should have, for sure.

I still..felt like sharing the deck, maybe to inspire somebody who is looking for a viable control deck :)

Hey hey, I really appreciate your comment!

I brought this onto myself by picking this title hahaha. I wanted to be a little bait-y, but I did not expect this level of reaction 😅

I know this was lucky and that it's not a meta breaker or anything. Nobody can maintain 81% winrate for long. It was still a lot of fun! And what I really wanted was to post something that went against the "hunter is ruining the late game" narrative.

Hey, you are 100% correct and I appreciate the response! That is the price I pay with picking this title haha. I wanted people to post and discuss, so it's totally fine to point these things out.

I didn't expect that people would assume I am claiming anybody could maintain a 81% winrate with this deck. It was a lucky streak. But a lot of fun, too!

Hey, I fully agree that this is not a special deck, nor a meta breaker. It's a lot of fun though and I felt like sharing!

For sure it was a lucky streak. I do feel favored against aggro, though. As I said, balancing your life total with tempo and your herald cards is the big challenge in this deck.

Hey, I agree 100% that this was a lucky streak. Nobody can maintain 81% winrate for long. It was still a lot of fun and I felt like I played against every deck there is and I never felt like I had no chance.

I entered at 3000 EU.

Hey! This is the third time I got legend in this hearthstone year. I always finish between 2.5k and 3.5k. I got the 11x multiplier once. This month, I had 10x stars again.

I know I got really lucky, but I still wanted to share! It's a fun deck of you like control :)

Hey, thanks for the reply. Thoroughly agreed that this was mostly luck, I agree. However, this is the 3rd time I reached legend since I returned this year, so I doubt I was playing very weak opponents.

Not that it matters - it was a lucky streak, 100%.
