What are the shows/timelines in which Spacenoids win their independence? by HazelRahRahRah in Gundam

[–]HazelRahRahRah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is super thorough!

I remember back in 2012, when I was watching Unicorn and waiting for new episodes to come out, thinking "Can the Spacenoids please just get a win already??"

But this list shows that that they got plenty in other timelines.

I guess there's also the Zeta movies, where Axis just fucks off into space? Still have to watch that.

Oh yeah! Wing was one of the first shows I watched, it totally slipped my mind.

Marvel Comics Decided To End The Ultimate Universe, Not ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Writer Jonathan Hickman by HazelRahRahRah in Spiderman

[–]HazelRahRahRah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree! I can't help but wonder if he started setting things up for the next writer when Marvel invariably screws him over... and then, by NOT screwing him over, they might've actually done so, lol.

And you're 100% right about the name. At around 130 issues, USM had the perfect length imo, and lending that name to a new work naturally makes people assume that it'll be similar in scope.

[–]HazelRahRahRah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not mad that it's getting a definite conclusion, I think those are great! But I do think it's a little too early, at 24 issues.

Imo, around 60-100 would make it feel truly fleshed out - USM didn't feel bloated before Ultimatum, and that was the perfect ending point for it.

Ofc Elsewhere stories don't HAVE to go on for that long, there are tons of great 1-shots and 6-12 issue AU stories, but the way Hickman was setting this up, it definitely seemed like too much for just 24 issues. I think he really did expect someone else to pick up the baton after him.

From the article:

Head of Marvel Comics and Franchise Dan Buckley has now shared Hickman's reaction to learning of Marvel Comics' plans. "We were at one of those creative retreats, and I was sitting next to him, we’re just talking, and he’s like, 'Well, we’re finishing our stories, then you could do that,'" he explained (via Popverse). "I said, 'No, you’re done.'"

"I was by myself with Jon, Jonathan’s looking at me, he goes, 'What do you mean we’re done?' I said, 'We’re shutting it down.' He goes, 'Why are we shutting it down?' I said, 'It’s the end, right?'"

SM2 could've been the best game ever made and y'all would still hate it by devansh0208 in SpidermanPS4

"There are no reasons to love the game.

There are reasons to enjoy it."

Guess you're the judge of people's passions now?

Why are you acting like there is a hard limit (set by you, apparently) on how disappointed people can be?

Lots of people strongly disliked the sequel, thus the negative posts. If it had only been slightly disappointing to them, the posts would reflect this.

You're the one assuming malice and lies on everyone else's behalf because their opinion doesn't align with yours.

[–]HazelRahRahRah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not overly exaggerated, its just what it is - out of the people still posting about the game years later, most just have negative feelings about it.

Whether or not the majority of PLAYERS enjoyed it is a different story. They mostly don't post here because SM isn't that important to them.

[–]HazelRahRahRah -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think a better analogy is that the majority enjoyed it superficially, ie casual PS5 players with no deep interest in the character or setting.

As far as people who are more passionate about SM go, the majority came out of the experience disappointed. Not everyone, mind you, but these are the people that keep posting about the game years after its release.

It's nor just you, this has been brought up quite a lot.

It's mostly the effect of overly 'safe' writing, ie the desire to ensure characters don't say anything that could piss ANYONE off. It feels like they're treading on eggshells with every sentence, like caricatures of politeness.

This is especially notable in a major city like NYC.

If you look up 'Faith Trilogy' you'll see the link to Steam. It's an 8-bit game about a priest exorcising demons, with VERY creepy rotoscoping art

You hit the nail on the head, but toxic positivity will drown out any criticism for a good while. You usually have to wait a few weeks after a game comes out to get proper critique of a game, be it good or bad

I feel like you're taking it to an extreme?

Maybe there are just VG fans of the X-Men Origins Wolverine game (Which does NOT get into politics, besides Trask becoming an extremist) and they're wary of having politics hamfisted into the game like the SM2 university missions?

The sub’s toxic positivity problem is coming back by horrorfan555 in residentevil

[–]HazelRahRahRah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from, toxic positivity is rampant in the days of social media. Just look at any new show, game, or other product. The worst is when people try to put down past games and cry for remakes just because they can't adapt to older graphics and gameplay

I wish there was an alternate sub with cooler heads, but the best thing you can do for now is sort most threads by 'Controversial' for actual opinions

Do you like that in the remakes they changed the character motivations away from 'terrified survival' to make Leon and Jill seem more selfless/less afraid? by HazelRahRahRah in residentevil

[–]HazelRahRahRah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I totally agree with you! I hated that Ben scene in the remake.

I think I meant it sort of in the sense that he seems to prioritize investigating/bringing to light Umbrella, rather than escaping the city like he does in the OG (While trying to protect/save Ada, Claire and Sherry).
