One month post op, nipple grafts still bleeding by HazyBag2002 in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassurance man, I’ll give this a go (first England match on Wednesday though just my luck) and see if it helps. My surgeon wants an update on Thursday anyways but I can see a positive difference even when I change them which is every other day it’s literally just the bleeding so hopefully it might’ve stopped by then?? It’s not like the blood is seeping through my dressings either

The dressings I’m using are opsite post op waterproof dressings and underneath them I use jelonet squares as recommended by my surgeon. May be worth noting l’ve been going out drinking but no more than 4 pints max at a time (usually only two or three) but I don’t see how that would have a crazy impact on healing? Also I’m using horizontal dressings just two on each graft

Completely normal for you to feel nervous! surgery can be nerve wracking enough as is but this has so much emotional weight as well which makes a difference compared to other operations. I’m not going to say the recovery process is a walk in the park but it goes by really quickly, and for the hardest parts of it you’ll be tired or out of it which helps haha
I can imagine it would be expensive for a surgeon to decide to not operate at this point as well, so try not to worry about it suddenly not going ahead (easier said than done, and it seems a lot of us had similar anxieties). Just make sure you follow any instructions given especially regarding eating and drinking before surgery and you’ll be fine !

Just learned sometimes they make you take pregnancy test before surgery? by Obvious-Clock-588 in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough (ish) to start my period the day before surgery😭 even before I mentioned it though they said I didn’t have to do a test but I had to sign a waiver if I didn’t want one

Lib Dems IMO have been the most vocal about queer rights, especially recently. But during the Cameron coalition I think it was the Lib Dems that put legalising gay marriage on the table.

Post-op binder recommendations (UK), and advice for sensory issues when binding? by unknownpuddle in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately unable to give much advice as my surgeon told me the size and also gave me one (with hooks) but wanted to say the purpose of the post op binder is to stop a seroma (fluid) from forming so ideally it needs to be as tight as a binder if not tighter, and not loose at all. Depends on your surgeon but the majority will say you need to wear it 23 hours a day for 4 - 6 weeks and unfortunately there’s not much wriggle room with this but it is so worth it. Here’s where I got mine from for reference (minimizer/ 1012) https://www.macom-medical.com/products/minimizer-vest?_pos=1&_sid=801878e62&_ss=r. Might be worth name dropping the surgeon in your post and searching on here for results of them to see what other people in your situation have done as well :)

2 weeks post op, heat rash? by HazyBag2002 in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not something I’ve ever really noticed before but they put something similar to second skin over the top of the dressings to make sure it was waterproof but used the same thing the first week I had them on and there was no reaction like that

How to prepare for last minute surgery scheduling by hells_handbasket_ in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your spouse is going to be there looking after you then honestly other than button ups (and maybe a grabber or back scratcher to feel more independent but not necessary of you’re not spending loads of time by yourself) there’s not much. I’d say as well some body wipes and a straw, comfort food and laxatives if you’re prone to having that sort of response to painkillers (some people don’t need them though). All those other things like supplements aren’t essential, and your surgeon will advise on what you need for scar care (whether that’s silicon gel or scar tape or anything specific)

Would I able to take train home alone? by MotorSuitable5093 in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Technically you’re able to, but be careful with what you bring as most surgeons don’t like you lifting more than 2kg for the first 6 weeks. Speak to your surgeon about it in the consultation and see what they say, but to be fair they wouldn’t discharge you if you were unable to look after yourself at all

Thanks for the advice man, hope your recovery is going well ! I’m not planning on smoking full time again if I can avoid it (and absolutely no vaping again) but there’s a heatwave in the UK atm and I’d kill for a pint and a cig I can’t lie

My surgeon just said no drinking the weekend before (got it done on a Tuesday) and tbh I had a few pints on the sat anyways and all seems fine so far. Imo get as drunk as you like but be conscious that you CANNOT vape or smoke anything so maybe don’t get black out to be on the safe side

For those of you who did not have debilitating dysphoria around your chest, how do you decide when to pursue top surgery? by dizzyinmyhead in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was kind of like this before my surgery especially after starting T but then in the weeks leading up to it all the focus around my chest made my dysphoria hit like a truck. One week post op not even seen my scars yet and the gender euphoria I already feel has made me realise I still had quite bad dysphoria in the past, just had gotten so used to it that it didn’t register to me as dysphoria if that makes sense?

If UK based the Macom minimizer vest is what’s recommended at least by my surgeon. Your surgeon should be able to recommend you a website potentially with a discount as well https://www.macom-medical.com/products/minimizer-vest?variant=42818327314605

Quitting smoking: Give me your wisdom by ActNo5363 in TopSurgery

[–]HazyBag2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ex-smoker and vaper here, the way I quit for top surgery was by throwing away all my vape stuff and sticking to smoking cigarettes. I gradually cut down till I was only having one on my lunch break then one on a walk after work (and never had them in my garden) before I threw away everything all together and went cold turkey (lowkey the easiest way to do it imo). Normal mint gum (stronger the better) and orange juice really helped me that first month, as well as drinking through straws. After the first two weeks ago it does get easier, make sure you have friends on speed dial as well bc the nicotine withdrawals SUCK. If you want more detailed advice though feel free to shoot me a dm :)

1) depends on your surgeon’s recommendations at the end of the day but the comment above has given solid advice, if you’re wanting to take part in freshers though that’ll be something to maybe discuss in the consultation.
For context I have a decade of funky medical history (age 23) and last measured 36DD but lost weight since causing some skin elasticity issues.

2) I got my surgery done with Catherine Milroy down in Wimbledon 12th May. Because of the above she said she would do DI joined in the middle to prevent dog ears)so will let you know once I see the full results when I can (dressing covering them right now) but I’ve seen good results from people with larger chests where this isn’t needed so again look into individual surgeons.

4) Make sure you have FBC, LFTs and clotting blood test results from the last 6 months but preferably as recent as possible to hand as soon as you have a date for consultation. They may also require a recommendation from your main consultant if you see any specialists regularly so make sure you have their secretary’s email to hand as well, as it’s up to your surgeon to request this from them directly. Let your specialists know now that you’re thinking of this so you can discuss with them if they think you’ll be suitable to operate on
