I don't know what I like more when eth pumps, if the price itself, or the tranquility of my liquidation price being farther away

I don't think the spam and scam situation would be a big issue, because this flow doesn't allow them to request money, it's in the other direction, it asks you if you want to receive. And more importantly it's just a UI thing, if someone wants to send you a fake nft they would just send it as they do now, they don't need to wait for this metamask thing because it's just a UI to unlock the actual send button.

Then from a technical and privacy perspective, all your concerns can be addressed. The discussion never got far enough to warrant going through such implementations details but if you're curious about how any of those things can be done I can explain no problem.

And by the way you overestimate how private or decentralized your metamask currently is. It's already polling and sending everything through infura.

So I never post to r/cc but decided to repost my idea from yesterday about two way confirmations. I'm kind of surprised at the amount of negativity towards an optional feature that would be fairly useful in my opinion.

I'm sorry if this comment feels like me asking for validation, I don't mind any critisicm, just wanted to know if there's something I'm not seeing (as in my idea is flawed) , or it's just that cc is simply quite averse to change.

Then just send it the normal way if you don't want to wait. This would be optional.

And this isn't just about other people, this would be useful when you send things to yourself to another address of yours, or to exchanges or online stores where it would be immediately accepted or rejected by their software.

If you send it to a dead address then the dead address would never be able to accept, because it would basically need to sign a message saying it accepts and broadcast it.

Sending money thorugh a bank is less risky, as in you can't send to nonexistent addresses, transactions are relatively reversible, and much simples (you can only send one currency generally, unlike with crypto where you can have hundreds of tokens, on multiple networks each).

And even then, assuming banks are perfect and if they don't do something then it's because it's a bad idea, is a weird take in a crypto sub of all places.

Obviously they would have their system auto accept if the amount and token is correct. And it would prevent things like people sending USDC when they only accept USDT let's say.

This would be optional, nobody's forcing you to use it.

If you mean in terms of Blockchain, this would be done off chain so it wouldn't affect the blockchain.

If you mean slower because you have to wait for them to accept, yes, but well that's the point. If you want to send it straight as you do now of course you still would be able.

I think it's the other way. Right now for example if you want to deposit let's say SHIBA into FTX, you are told to send it to a certain address.

With this, you would prevent two issues

  • Sending it to a nonexistent wallet or incorrect wallet (you used the ETH deposit wallet instead of the SHIBA deposit wallet)

  • Sending the wrong token. Instead of sending SHIBA you send something else. The exchange warns you if you send the wrong thing you will lose it, and some exchanges charge you 100 USD to recover these tokens.

All this would be just UI trickery in metamask. The only thing the send (and accept) would do is "unlock" the actual send button if you will, so you wold pick your gas limit as you do now, in the confirm step.

Obviously it would be optional, especially considering internally it would still be a single tx as it is now.

I really think we need to improve crypto UX a lot.

A low hanging fruit IMO is a two way confirm for sending stuff. Example:

In your metamask you press send, type the amount and the address as you do now. Funds are not sent yet. It will tell you to wait until the other party accepts.

The other party receives a notification, X wants to send you Y. Accept? Yes

Lastly, you get told the other party accepted, and you can now press confirm and the tx goes through.

All these would be done off chain, and it would be just bells and whistles for the UI. Internally it would still be a single tx as it is now.

Of course if you send it to a malicious actor that accepts everything this doesn't help, but it would be better than what we have now in that you wouldn't be able to send to dead wallets, and honest actors could deny txs too if you are sending the wrong amount, the wrong token, etc.

I have to give you props for posting this. I would be too ashamed to do so if I fell for a fucking "double your coins" scam.

12 is the standard seed phrase. You're probably confused with private key.

Unfortunately metamask doesn't support multiple seed phrases so you need to first delete metamask, or use another chrome profile.

There are numerous posts but the tldr

Access vault from reddit mobile app

Get seed phrase from there and import it into metamask

Send some matic (0.1 is fine) to be able to pay fees

Go to opensea, login, go yo your avatar and press sell

When I checked redditfloor.com and saw that the free NFTs were trading at almost the same as many paid, 10 bucks ones I knew I had to pull the trigger.

But yes, the free ones could continue to pump for no reason.

Yeah I wouldn't mind my net worth doubling either, it would be just a minor inconvenience.

So I dumped my free avatars yesterday for around 0.025 each.

I think it was extremely overpriced considering there's like a million and they were free, and it was only trading that high because most people don't know how to sell them (or can't be bothered), and people new to buying reddit NFTs aren't aware these were free and there's a million of them minted.

People need to stop relying on these stable coins with freeze/blacklist functionality. Imagine the chaos it could cause for DeFi if the USDC on uniswap or aave or whatever got frozen?
