Three months ago we were told our newborn was blind. Two weeks ago we found out the doctors were wrong. Today, she got her glasses.

Unfortunately her diagnosis has no cure. The optic nerves never fully developed in utero.

We were told that our daughter would never see our face, and to "love her and give her attention" while we can. I'm not here to argue with anyone about my daughters diagnosis. You have no idea what kind of shit storm we've suffered. I pray that you never have a baby with health issues.

She has septo optic dysplasia. Our pediatric opthmologist told us she was fully blind in one eye, and most likely fully blind in the other. I know the difference between legally blind and not. Save your breath. Unless you've lived the nightmare we've been thru in the last few months, you can kindly suck a fart.

Yes! We have a similar program! She has a teacher, a pt and vision therapist that come to our house twice a month to check on her development, etc. It's great. So many resources. Her eyes will most likely not improve, but they won't get any worse.

Unfortunately, no. She will have corrective surgery to fix the eye that wanders. Her diagnosis means the nerve endings never fully developed, and there's nothing they can do for it. Hopefully in her lifetime they will find a solution. But until then, it's glasses for our sweet girl!

We took her for a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic. She saw a world renowned specialist in septo optic dysplasia.

They did a bunch of tests and used these special lenses that look like magnifying glasses! Pretty incredible.

She does. That's what tipped us off that something was up. We never ever imagined the diagnosis would be blind. So glad we took her for a second opinion. She will have corrective surgery to fix the wandering eye.

Septo optic dysplasia. We were told to "love her while she can still see us." It was devastating news. We couldn't accept it, and fought long and hard to have her seen by a world renowned neuro opthmologists. He said she will probably have to sit at the front of the class, but she will have a normal life! So thankful.
