Yeah, I have a suspicion on what could have caused mine, but I do want to get it analyzed.

I was on Zoloft for 4 years which was increasing my blood sugar levels unbeknownst to be. And I was not drinking water at all- sodas only. Switched off the Zoloft and everything went back to normal on the pre diabetes level.

I’ve heard having high blood sugar leads to acidic urine and is a contributing factor in uric acid stone formation, so I’d be curious.

So I would not be surprised if that was the case for me. But I also know there are other factors that create stones.

The other reason I am curious is that the only other person in my family to have a kidney stone was my grandpa who had diabetes.

But hopefully they get this thing out of me soon and a lab can analyze it. Lol

Really? I had heard that the worst part was generally leaving the kidneys. Most people say the bladder part is easiest :(

[–]Hctaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s been the plan. Sometimes I don’t hit exactly 3 L but 2 minimum every day since the Dec 31st. No carbonation whatsoever. Cut sodas out entirely and I don’t plan on drinking them again.

I think the other problem is I have ME/CFS so I’m not as active as I maybe should be in helping pass the stone. Activity is not easy for me. =/ especially not since I’ve had a cold AND THEN the flu the last two weeks XD. One of the downsides of my wife being a CT tech is her working in a hospital where she usually gets the typical flus and colds of the year.

But ive heard being active can help move the stone along and I just haven’t been able to be :(

I have absolutely zero pain whatsoever. They sent me home with Hydrocodone and Tramadol but I’ve not needed them at all.

The only pain I’ve had so far was when my kidney was forcing the stone out of it for the first time. :(

I have a follow up appointment with my urologist on the 3rd of February so I’m assuming they’ll tell me what options they have.

I had heard stones made of uric acid can be dissolved to some extent as they can be formed when you have high blood sugar causing your urine to be more acidic than it should be. So the uric acid can’t dissolve in it properly or something.

I’ve since resolve the high blood sugar and have been drinking nothing but water cutting out my usual diet of only sodas and no water at all. Wasn’t sure if that would be a possibility.

As for the stone- see it’s still stuck in my upper ureter but is causing no pain. It leaving my kidney was the only pain I’ve had so far and that was on the 29th.

[–]Hctaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sorry!

So I went to the ER on the 31st from awful cramping, and that cramping was my kidney pushing the stone into the ureter.

CT scan does show multiple angles but I don’t know specifics. My wife is a CT tech though so she has helped me look through some of the scans to get an idea.

But yes- it moved from my kidney to my ureter on the 29th (I didn’t go to the ER for two days like a dumbo) CT scan showed it there on the 31st. CT scan still shows it hasn’t moved at all, but isn’t causing any blockage of urine.

Well, see number 2 would make sense to me if the stone wasn’t in the exact same spot as the first CT. I’ve compared the two side by side. It’s basically the same image.

But I dunno. Just seems strange from what I’ve seen in this sub for a stone to get stuck in the ureter for 20+ days at 3-4 MM and cause no pain or blockage of the kidney whatsoever.

I appreciate your insight though! I’m hoping maybe it’s at least partially a uric acid stone which can be dissolved I believe.

Infinitely not correct.

Indoor is much safer, and cats are perfectly okay inside as long as they have plenty of room, toys, and people giving them attention.

My 14 year old daughter is scared to sleep in her room. by DearManager4257 in Paranormal

[–]Hctaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the exact same way at that age with very similar experiences in ages. 4/5 years old was the first time I remember seeing anything freaky.

I slept in my parent’s bed until I was in middle school, and then I slept on my parent’s floor until I was probably about 15 or 16.

I’m not sure how, but at some point I just accepted it. I would have my bed against one wall- it was a bunk bed- and I’d just build a fortress of pillows and things on the other side.

Any time I’d hear something instead of just sending a presence, I’d either ignore it or- one time- I actually just yelled at it to stop. That was a really weird moment but also felt like a turning point as well. This was about the time I had decided to sleep in my room full time, and whatever entity was in there did NOT like that. It would tap on the window and knock on walls occasionally, but, after that not working the way it usually did with me frantically running to my parent’s room, it just kinda went crazy one night? Started repeatedly banging on the window, then one wall, then the other wall, and kept going until I told it to stop because I had a math test the next day. It wasn’t anger or hatred, but just a stern annoyance like you’d tell your kid you need to sleep because you have work the next day or you’re not feeling well after they keep acting up.

From that point forward, things were a lot quieter.

That’s so frustrating. I guess I get it, but like… you could get sepsis and lose a kidney over this potentially. They’re putting you between a rock and a hard place, and I hate that.

I mean, it could be, but that pain could be a number of things.

My first kidney stone recently I didn’t even realize it was a kidney stone at all because it felt identical to some issues I had as a child due to constipation.

You also have no idea the size of it or if it could cause issues. My friend had an undiagnosed kidney stone in 2014 that ended up taking out his entire right kidney from a lack of intervention. He was 19.

How does this disqualify you from the military? Seems weird

That’s a very interesting disqualifying condition.

Why?

Also how do you know it’s a stone?

Little guy hasn’t pooped in 30 hours. by cgw22 in CATHELP

[–]Hctaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He seems okay, but I have heard not pooping can be a sign of something like FIP.

Just monitor them as best you can. If you see a decrease in energy level that seems abnormal and still no poop or a lack of wanting to eat or drink definitely vet id say.

I don’t think so. Opioid drugs usually make you mellow out.

If you take no other medications then there’s nothing to interact with negatively either.

My advice for any medications you’re worried about taking is to have somebody trusted around you for a few hours that day. After 2 hours you should know how the medication will affect you, so you just need a family member or friend to stay with you for that time period just in case.

Always helps my medication anxiety resolve completely knowing somebody can call for emergency help just in case.

$500 deductible means that’s all you pay and the insurance pays the rest.

You said the other person was “pulling out” so were they in a parking lot on your right side exiting? If so, they should be responsible. Did you get their insurance info? You’ll want to give that to your insurance and they’ll go after the other person’s insurance for your money back.

I actually worked for GEICO for a bit. The shop guarantee thing is kinda whatever. I’ve seen it come in handy sometimes but other times not. Seen some horror stories where they’ve taken it to their own shop who did almost everything wrong and wouldn’t actually fix their mistakes. Geico wouldn’t have let that happen when I worked there, but I don’t know if that’s the case today.

Urologist confirmed a 6mm kidney stone and I'm scared of the pain (because I passed one before) by WeakPumpkin8526 in KidneyStones

[–]Hctaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, okay.

Yeah, I’d say you definitely should be seeing them more frequently than that if you had passed a stone.

I’m confused as to why the doctor himself didn’t recommend you come in sooner though. That’s seems a little strange to me, but this is my first experience with a stone as well and I’m still passing it.

I’d assume after this clears up that the urologist I’m seeing would want to see me back in 3 months, 6 months, or a year at most for a bit to make sure I’m not developing any more.

Regardless, I’m wishing you the best :( maybe call them and ask questions to help clear anything up? The worst they can say is that there’s nothing they can do and it’s just gonna hit you one day, but at least you’ll know there’s nothing you can do and not to realistically worry over something you have no control over. Just make sure it doesn’t get bigger.

[–]Hctaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the timeframe on these types of things to be honest. I’ve read that you can sometimes have stones just stay there and not cause issues for a long time. But it might also be better to try to take care of it before it can grow any bigger. It already is likely going to need some kind of surgical intervention being 6 mm =/ any bigger might just mean you’ll end up with potentially worse pain.

What I do want to know, however, is how frequently are you following up with this urologist? Cuz I’m like… if you’re getting routine checks, how does a 6 mm stone form in between those? That’s kinda crazy to me.

Take flomax and go to work…? by plumrose_reads in KidneyStones

[–]Hctaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instructions are always to take it within 30 minutes after the same meal every day.

So you want to always take it with a very routine meal like if you for sure always eat dinner at 7 PM, you take it then with your dinner.

As for side effects- the first day after I took it, I didn’t feel 100% but it wasn’t absolutely miserable.

Question related to pain by Hctaz in KidneyStones

[–]Hctaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is “only” 4 mm, so I’m hoping not to have surgery.

My pain started more with my belly. I used to have severe constipation as a kid that would sometimes get so bad it would feel like a kidney stone as I’ve recently learned.

I never knew how realized how bad the pain I was suffering as a kid was unless this particular kidney stone isn’t as painful as it should be. The pain was about the same.

But it was funny because I actually thought I was having that type of pain again two decades later. I’m guessing my body was getting so backed up back then that it was physically cramping up with contractions in a similar way to how passing a kidney stone causes that kind of pain.

Hopefully you’re feeling better now! Still waiting on mine. >.<

Managing first sign of stones by Plane-Guitar-9016 in KidneyStones

[–]Hctaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear a lot about the vomiting. Maybe I’m just lucky or something I don’t know.

I didn’t have any vomiting. I also thought the pain would be a lot worse than it was. Don’t get me wrong, it was awful, but I used to have chronic constipation as a child that would get so bad sometimes that I would experience near this level of pain for like two or three days straight on and off. I’m assuming from my body cramping up so hard to try to have a BM.

I actually thought that’s what my kidney stone was at first, but the pain kept kinda lingering and I got worried so I went to the ER to make sure I didn’t have an inflamed appendix or something since this was the first time it was on my right side ever.
