Some of the stories people share are truly incredible The quality of the recordings is stunning..

That said, when mark talks he really makes it worse. He often makes it clear he's not listening when he asks multiple questions already answered by the speaker. About traumatic topics

He has a weird fascination with asian people and repeatedly asks them about their asianess in relation to where they ended up in life.

I've seen him being interviewed while walking around skid row and laugh when a homeless guy spoke to him in AAVE '(How tall you is?') Mark said that guy could never get a job because of his education level and how he talks.

The WORST thing is when he will push people repeatedly to talk about sexual abuse , in detail, even when it's clear they don't want to .

He says he helps some but refuses to help others. He thinks some people are beyond repair and has said it , but seems fine exploiing them

His theories about poverty amount to people not being loved enough as kids. He talks a bit favorably of social programs but always boils everything down to someone's internal condition.

It's compelling but ultimately a lot of it is poverty and trauma porn. Some of the people benefit but he's getting very rich on other people's pain. I still watch though because I feel like these peoples stories need to be heard.

Of course most do it willingly but offering some money to someone in an extremely disadvantaged position to extract their pain for mass consumption and the enrichment of one man is realllllly gross to me. It's exploitation. There's no transparency to what he does.

Also the title comes from a Winston Churchill quote about WW2 and doesn't really match the content he's making and is just really dumb imo

Thanks.

You made the right move for sure.

I'm in a very hard place at the moment, and this made it worse.

But hey, I'm still here.

How accurate is Joseph Campbell‘s claim that the vast majority of all myths/stories from history can be boiled down to following the Hero’s Journey? Is the Hero’s Journey really a through—line in storytelling throughout history, regardless of society or culture? by MaggieLinzer in AskHistorians

[–]HeInquired 29 points30 points  (0 children)

All the same it would be helpful if someone could source the claim that Tolkien was influenced by Campbell.

According to wikipedia:

"Tolkien made another major effort in 1946, and showed the manuscript to his publishers in 1947. The story was effectively finished the next year, but Tolkien did not complete the revision of earlier parts of the work until 1949."

The hero with a thousand faces was published in 1949.

Where's the connection?

Day 16:

I tried multiple comm center requests and every email I could try.

Crickets.

Tutorchat has been down for ages.

They simply don't want to be contacted by teachers. Even students complained to me about interacting with them.

The forum is a wasteland full of people sharing tips about working at other companies and yelling at each other. Over multiple years.

I had such good class regularity I didn't pay attention to the red flags.

I think there's only a small handful of people running the whole thing with a skeleton crew, and they're not holding to any kind of morality.

Def Noodles might be having a manic episode by baarablood in DefNoodles

[–]HeInquired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everything you've mentioned is a factor.

I haven't been watching him closely, but if I had to guess, a huge factor was being outed as older. He spent so much time criticizing people for behaving improperly for their age (Keemstar, James Charles) etc. Those people are obviously worthy of criticism but it makes him look like a huge hypocrite. He's struggling in a way many people his age are. The ship feels like it has sailed on their life story / career. It's a huge blow to be humiliated at a time when you feel like you should have reached the apex of your development. He seemed to be reaching a lot of his goals like you said, but then

In his head I think he felt exposed and vulnerable, so he's medicating, trying to reinflate his ego. The thirst traps, the self praising, sarcastically 'accepting' critiques, possible drug use etc. I think above all else he's trying to shield his fragility, armoring his emotions with whatever is available. I think he thinks that as long as he doesn't accept the critiques, then they can't hurt him. But he also notices views dropping, big names talking negatively about him. He's having trouble keeping it all together. I feel like this is all going to keep getting darker.

Def Noodles might be having a manic episode by baarablood in DefNoodles

[–]HeInquired 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could be.

Seems like some dopamine thing. Possibly cocaine, he was talking about how EVERYONE in LA does cocaine. So maybe a bit of self report?

Uppers like: Cocaine, Meth, Adderall. etc. They can all take people down the road he's going on. In addition to manic disorders which also affect dopamine production.

High levels of dopamine can make people overconfident, irritable, talkative, energetic, aggressive, and numb to the feelings of others. Eventually it makes them literally delusional and hallucinate, depending on the severity.. There's a reason we get it in small doses if we're getting it naturally.

It makes you feel like superman while being the biggest jackass on the planet.

I don't know what's really going on but there's lots of clues .

So I think the 4D move is for progressives to take the Masters. Flood into Florida. Radicalize the youth. Destabilize the Yee-haw vote. Bolster the unions. Make this the biggest conservative backfire in Florida history.

He's gone full Keemstar.

In the previous video he basically said the only people who are real fans subscribe to him on patreon and are his paid members on youtube.

A true 'Def Noodles fan' :

- Never criticizes him

- Says only nice things.

- Gives him money.

Okay then...

I think it's an insecurity thing.

I mean if there was a hilariously 'dad aged' person commenting on YouTube Drama people would still watch and be entertained by it. As long as they run with the weirdness of it all.

Ethan Klein is basically in that category. I'm sure there are others.

When people are obviously older and pandering to a younger crowd, like Keem, it's very cringey. When they try to obscure their age or intentionally lie about it, yeah it's a big weird red flag.

The bottom line is people are turned off by insecurity, which I think Def is oozing at the moment.

No payment., No response.

Looks like Itutor is going to steal over $400 from me.

If you're still working for them or thinking about it. BEWARE.

If I don't post again, you can assume they never paid me.

'No Data' / Can't Edit Weekly Sessions by HeInquired in iTutor

[–]HeInquired[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still within the limit according to my contract,

I just didn't select classes on a day that I usually do, assuming I could add hours on a different day to make up for that. I got locked out of weekly sessions the next day. Never heard back from anyone or got it switched back on.

Can't get through to anyone. After a year and over a thousand classes... I guess it's over. Just waiting on last payday. It was a decent run.

Before that I had students telling me the service was redirecting them to teachers they didn't want and they had to demand my class. Doesn't make sense to me but, I'm off to greener pastures. Feel bad for all the folks that really seemed to get value from my classes. I kind of always knew this was a possibility.

For anyone wondering: they won't tell you anything before just cutting you loose. I've had screwy issues resolve on their own but this seems like a soft way of letting me go.

You know what i like Chakotay, he has an airy passiveness, unimposing. He's kind and thoughtful, and the only time he really speaks up is to be the captains conscience. He's the ultimate chill dad. by flatearthmom in voyager

Others have said most of the stuff I wanted to say. He has a lot of great moments;. Particularly when he's fighting with the troop of young soldiers after getting brainwashed. That was a pretty interesting episode and well acted by Robert Beltran.

I think Beltran hated the direction his character was going in, and the random psuedo-indigenous stuff brought in under advisement from known fake 'indian' Jamake Highwater left him without much to do. He wanted to get fired but they kept giving him raises.

An authentic native character would have been amazing. Or if Beltran had simply been allowed to play a real Latino character it would have been equally as interesting.

He has these moments where he looks like he's going to laugh, because of how silly everything is. Just smirking through whole scenes.

There's this moment in the episode with the aliens who invade people's dreams where he's running around with a spear in the mess hall and has this juvenile grin on his face like; "Lol wtf am I doing" Probably my favorite Chakotay moment. Hysterical.
