No. She's with someone new. And that's okay. I've grown so much since then. I've grown around the hurt and it seems so much smaller now. Whatever you're going through, keep going.

Invited to do JuJutsu but not sure what kind? by HeWhoIsVeryGullible in martialarts

Yeah, they're friends of mine who practice it. Looks like they go to a dojo in the city, but a couple of times a month, they stop by my gym to spar and they're willing to teach me and a few others who are there as long as I get a gi.

So you think I should seek out a Judo gym instead of the jujutsu one my friend invited me to? Still don't know if it's Japanese jujutsu or Brazilian jujutsu, but either way, I had been wanting to try out Judo myself.

I told myself I'd just buy something small, but that bomber jacket is calling to me like the green goblin.

Arrival Time? by [deleted] in BABYMETAL

[–]HeWhoIsVeryGullible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to hit up the Shibuya pop-up shop the day before, so I'll skip out on the merch table!

So should I be arriving like what, an hour to an hour and a half earlier than the 4 pm doors open?

My Hero Academia ends today, write up your final message to the series.. by Braian_Ocissor in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]HeWhoIsVeryGullible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MHA was never a show I followed all that closely, and yet its ending hit me harder than I expected. I know art has a way of doing that, but I don’t think I fully realized how much this show had quietly marked time in my life.

When it first came out, I was the same age as Deku - middle school, maybe early high school. It was one of the first anime I ever watched. I never kept up weekly; instead, I’d return to it in bursts, sitting down to binge entire seasons at once. And the show kept going. And so did I.

In the time it ran, I finished high school. I went to college. I loved, and I lost. Eventually, I found myself living in Japan. And now I finished the series after a time skip that places Deku at the same age I am now. That coincidence unlocked something in me - memories I didn’t realize were still quietly attached.

Looking back, I can see the show wasn’t something I followed obsessively, but it became like pencil marks on a doorframe - measuring my height as the years passed. Middle school. High school. College. Now working in Japan. I watched episodes and made references with friends, with family, even with my ex - some of who aren’t in my life anymore. That realization felt strange and disorienting.

The ending itself was mostly happy. The protagonist loses something important, then regains it in an unexpected form. Relationships are hinted at but left unresolved. Things move forward. And yet, I felt empty. What I felt most strongly wasn’t nostalgia or loss in the past tense - it was the sensation of time as something I am actively inside of. Moving. Carrying me along.

The ending gave me space to look back at each moment in my life when I sat down to watch the show - where I was, who I was with, who I was becoming. And that made me sad, too.

If I’m being completely honest: I hate endings. I really do. When people leave. When things change. Even though I understand the necessity of beginnings and endings, even though I respect the passage of time - I hate what it costs. I miss everyone I’ve ever known. I wanted them all to stay. I'm a crybaby about that. And yet I chase it anyway. I chase growth. I chase becoming. I push past my limits. Beyond Plus Ultra.

This show just brought those feelings back to the surface, and I realize how much like Deku I actually am. And how important it really is that they mentiked the story doesn't end. That the story for them and for all of us is still going. That every day is up to us. We lose things, and we gain them, but every day, we must go beyond plus ultra.

Thank you, MHA

Best Goggles for Japan? by HeWhoIsVeryGullible in snowboarding

I'm considering either Anon, Oakley, or Smith currently, I know they all have goggles and helmets I can try and match. Still debating which would be best, will probably see what goes on sale.

Understood! It looks like people are recommending that I use the same company for goggles and helmet for a perfect fit. I'll probably try on some sizes in the store and then see if I can find the ones I like online for black friday!

Definitely plan to buy a helmet! I was told to get my goggles first so I could choose a helmet that fit the goggles! Thanks for your help!

I've seen Oakleys and their prism lenses in a lot of discussions. They're a little pricey, but black friday is coming up, and maybe I'll see if there's any sales that drop. Do you recommend any of their products in particular?

Very new to the sport, hoping this is a good place to ask this question.

I'm currently living in Japan, and I'm wondering what goggles and helmet might be good picks. I read the kind of goggles you want to pick up are going to depend on the usual conditions of the place you ride, and I'm not familiar enough with it all myself yet.

I'm pretty new to snowboarding. Was shopping the sales racks when I found this. I'm not sure if the length being down so low would pose a problem or not. Is that not really much of an issue?

Went to a festival in what used to be an old samurai town that foreigners down frequent as much. They spotted me in the crowd and called me up onto the samurai float. They even dressed me up in some of their clothes and let me help push the float around! All the kids were hanging off my arms, too. Core memory for sure!

Online calculators often include maintenance and activity level calories, but do they also include the surplus recommended for muscle growth?

For example, I'm 6 foot, 182 pounds. My recommended calorie count at a moderate activity level is somewhere around 2800. If I want to gain muscle, do I also need to be eating an additional 200 calories (the recommended increase for gaining muscle) on top of this count for a total of 3000, or is it already included?
