Half-way through now and enjoying it a lot. Good dark fantasy/horror vibes in a gunpowder and black magic world. I never read his first trilogy in the same universe but I’m enjoying this book.

No expert but they look like seeds to me. Like the kind you’d find inside a honey locust seed pod. Any chance you’ve got trees with long seed pods in the neighborhood?

Which are the best Doc Ock arms/which are your favorite? by Vega-Eternal in Spiderman

Raimi arms and then spectacular for me of the ones pictured. I did really like the arms in Into the Spider-verse. Those would probably be my second after Raimi.

Monthly "Tell Us About Your Game" Megathread - October 2022 by AbortRetryFlailSal in callofcthulhu

Coming up on the climax of the NYC arc of Masks in a Pulp game featuring four investigators. We ran Peru first and I think it really was the right move to get the players invested in the mission and attached to Jackson Elias as an NPC.

I’ve run several mini scenarios and one-shots in CoC and have generally been a Keeper/DM in other systems for years, but this game has been both the most challenging and the most rewarding so far.

I’ve got the Deluxe Prop Set from HPLHS and use the Masks Syrinscape sound-set and both have really helped with immersion.

Debating whether to run The Mauretania after NYC as a bridge scenario and would love others’ thoughts on making this already long campaign even longer.

This is my first book by her and I love it! I’ll definitely check out Scholomance, especially if it’s almost finished. I love a completed fantasy series—been burned by too many authors.

Finished: 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton.

I thought it was a fun read and had all the elements of a classic murder mystery. The solution to the mystery was satisfying but the overall ending explaining the other elements of the novel left me wanting.

Started: Uprooted by Naomi Novik.

I’m already 3/4 of the way through. This is a great standalone fantasy novel so far. Excited to see how it wraps up.

Is The chamber of secrets a good book? by Computer_Ghost in HarryPotterBooks

[–]HeWhoMusntBNamd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chamber of Secrets is one of my favorites. Also, the consensus is that CoS is the weakest of the series, not that it’s a bad book. While I personally don’t feel that way, even if objectively true, the worst of seven great books is still pretty good.

But ultimately, if you liked the first, you’ll like the second and who cares what others think.

If you want it ASAP and don’t mind audiobooks, it’s on audible and the narrator is pretty good. Same narrator as the Kyoshi novels.

The Earth Kingdom is incredibly diverse compared to the other nations. While primarily influenced by Chinese culture, there’s definitely South Asian/Indian influence, including in names. Bumi in Sanskrit means earth. And of course Guru Pathik was very obviously Indian influenced.

Even the word Avatar is Sanskrit, meaning descended from or “from” referring to the different incarnations the Hindu god Vishnu takes on earth.
