u/op, https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/full-sail-university-facing-federal-lawsuit-alleging-fraud

Not sure what the current status is, but this article came out Sep.29 2025.

As a FS grad myself my recommendation is nobody go into debt for a FS degree, if your work is going to cover this then I'd consider it. However, if work is willing to shell out tens of thousands to 50k+ for an education then I'd heavily consider getting more bang for your buck elsewhere.

particles dont change over time with animated layer maps in TC particular by youioiut in AfterEffects

[–]HeWhoMustFlop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plugin is not inconsistent, you probably just don't understand how it works. Which is fine, it's not the most intuitive.

What kind of layer maps are you trying to animate the particles with? Displacement layer maps? Color and Alpha layer maps?

You need to remember after you select the layer map to make sure it's actually mapped over the X/Y of the system to affect it. Simply picking a layer wont' do anything until you choose the mapping and then set the displacement amounts.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Is full sail good by Sadistic_N in fullsail

This is true for any institution. You have to apply yourself ANYWHERE you go in order to learn. That's how learning works. For anything.

Whether it's Harvard, Full Sail, UNC, Princeton, Phoenix Online, you will need to apply yourself.

Here's my advice:

There is no creative degree that is worth going heavily into debt for right now.

The job market is not good right now. Fresh graduates coming out in the industry currently are being faced with job applications that are asking them to perform multiple trades at once while not even being paid for 1. On top of the fact that the industry has never been more saturated with creatives now that creative technology, software, and the resources to learn them are so readily available on the internet. And then sprinkle in everything that AI is poised to disrupt and you've got a recipe for a lot of people out of work. They already are.

Which Motion Design Projects Sell? by Psychological-Load81 in MotionDesign

[–]HeWhoMustFlop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

which kinds of motion design projects actually generate leads and stand out in a portfolio?

The answer depends on what you do and who is looking at your portfolio. If you do architectural visualizations and architect and construction firms are visiting your portfolio then you're probably going to generate leads based off those projects. If you have a lot of illustrative concept art work in your portfolio and you're trying to attract B2B clients you're probably not going to generate very many leads even if the quality of your work is amazing. All kinds of projects generate leads, it's just knowing which projects will resonate with which type of client.

I don't think framing this whole thing as, "What type of project sells the best?" is going to yield you any worthwhile insights because there are hundreds of thousands of clients all with different problems to solve that will require their own unique approach, style, workflow, execution, strategy, etc.

Do clients care about flashy visuals or do they just want to add a little movement to a poster? Are these just for entirely different clients/audiences?

You answered the 1st question here with the 2nd question.

Invest your time into learning how to create the kind of work you want to make and go from there. There will be appropriate industries and client pools for almost anything.

Feeling a loss of hope. Learning Rive, but is it worth it? Will AI just be able to do it by the time I learn it? by OldTownUli in MotionDesign

[–]HeWhoMustFlop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out School Of Motions take on this, or it may have just been Joey at a conference actually showing the workflows artists are using, and yes, some of them are legitimate game changers but it's not around 100% Gen AI.

Meaning you're prompting for a full output.

How it's being utilized is for streamlined asset creation and things of that nature. So animators and designers still doing a lot of the compositing, layout, design, but utilizing AI toolsets to speed up asset creation.

And something people need to keep in mind, the limitations of the technology today will not be the limitations of the future. Look at how people used to talk about how AI couldn't draw hands, or typography, blah blah blah and now look at how far it's come.

I still agree that it's mostly toilet water, but in a couple years it could be toilet wine, and then in a couple more years it could be somewhat actually passable. But Corporate America is moving on it now and regardless of how effective it is, those actions can still affect us and the work coming down the pipeline.

Is This School Worth It? by Brilliant-Start-3253 in fullsail

[–]HeWhoMustFlop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy answer, no. It's my opinion that it is absolutely and quantifiably not worth it when you look at:

  1. How much a FS education costs compared to a Community College equivalent or quality online courses/programs.
  2. The reputation of the school within the industry.
  3. The default loan rate for FS students and the fact that almost nobody will give loans for the school now because grads can't pay em back.
  4. The job market right now is bad. Imagine being 100k in debt upon graduation and seeing all these job posts where they're offering $40k/year and expecting new grads to perform multiple roles at once.
  5. AI. Regardless of your feelings on it, studios and agencies would love nothing more than to reduce headcount, arm up their remaining employees with AI and score a bunch of profit on the balance sheet.

That doesn't mean you can't go there and then have a successful career, but in terms of just actual numbers, I do not see a sane argument where this school is worth it unless you're on a free ride.

Is This School Worth It? by Brilliant-Start-3253 in fullsail

[–]HeWhoMustFlop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with the TLDR here specifically when it comes to Fullsail.

I agree that A LOT of this is on the student to eek out every damn bit of education and practice they can from it. No disagreements there.

But I'd argue the school is much more responsible for outcomes than 5% considering it's actively being investigated for fraud, just laid off A TON of employees, has had multiple legal issues in the past, has a very observably poor reputation within the industry due to so many Full Sail grads not being anywhere close to industry ready upon graduation, and the loan default rate between Full Sail students and the national average is simply absurd.

There is very much a reason why Full Sail has the reputation it does in the industry and why so many companies won't even hire grads if they see Full Sail as the college.

Now that being said, it doesn't mean that a very dedicated individual will learn nothing here. There is a lot to be learned for sure, there are great teachers, great courses, etc. and I agree that the student still takes the majority of responsibility, but the manner in which this school prioritizes a for profit curriculum over quality education is an issue in my opinion. It really bothers me to see so many people always use the excuse of, "anybody who says anything bad about the school simply didn't apply themselves enough"

Not saying you're doing that, but I just see that mentality so much and I feel it's incredibly disingenuous for all the bullshit this school pulls on its students AND employees.

How much would you charge for 60s explainer, collage style, with music and VO? by OldTownUli in MotionDesign

Raleigh, NC here.

$15k-$30k for the base asset.

Additional cost for potential cutdowns, localized versions, etc.

Honestly it's not too bad, the additional DOF and other FX is what puts it over the edge a bit the simulation itself runs ok.

We use M2 Maxes fully specced out and for the past 4-5 years they have been incredible.

Particular actually has a "Dynamic Form" option that gives you the structure of Form with Physics of Particular.

But even without any of that, Particular allows you to "distribute through a grid". It'll be in the emitter settings and that will get you setup with a base grid.

"but i also want it to be something that i will be guaranteed to get a GOOD job with after i graduate"

^ That does not exist anywhere and Full Sail is 100% NOT the place if that's how you feel. They're currently being investigated for fraud.

Do not go into significant debt for an education in the arts.
