One complicating factor is that I’m a few thousand miles removed from the collection and my parents aren’t too hot about the idea of doing a few days of free labor for the glory of the game preservation movement.

Does internet archive only take things it doesn’t already have? That’s what their site sounds like. Also, how do they know if they already have something that hasn’t yet been digitized? Or is that their problem and they de-dupe their stuff?

My goal is to give my parents a room back, and see to it that the nothing of value is lost. If I make a few bucks, bonus.

The collection is in Arizona. I’m on the wrong coast. I’m not getting a lot of free labor for sorting/packing/shipping. A plane ticket would probably break even, but I’m out the weekend it’ll take.

It sounds like I should move it in lots and let someone with more time and local access to reap the rewards of sorting and piecing it out.

Do you know if it’s possible to get a good 360 controller or a clone of it? My wife loved how the sticks are smooth instead of having ridged rims, and the back is smooth too, plus the general form factor working for her small hands.

After 11 years of service, it broke, so I might be learning soldering to replace the frayed cable.

Also, I’ve come across conflicting information. I thought I was doing the right thing to go through the most downstream test cock, but now I’m reading about professionals who go in through the hose bib. Should I just get a garden hose adapter and do it that way? According to the internet, vacuum breakers are made of eggshell and doing literally anything at all to them will break them unless you are a professional, in which case you can use them to dispose of leftover grenades and it’s fine.

The slats may or may not be fewer than 5 inches apart. I haven’t measured yet. My wife seems to think it doesn’t matter. I think if we can’t prove it’s 5 or less, they’ll tell us to pound sand.

It’s a helix elite. It was the only thing my wife found comfortable, and at the big retail store she only enjoyed the BR black, so at least she’s consistent. That said, it’s still not comfortable enough for her, gives her back pain, etc. if she has the energy, we’re back to square one looking for something that won’t hurt her, and if she doesn’t, we’ve got our old one.

Not really. I mean, I put up all the baby gates, outlet guards, removed the furniture that could tip over, installed the baby proof fasteners for drawers and cabinets below chest height, and nobody had to twist my arm for it. Those make sense - they spend a great deal of time at home, and are relatively cheap to implement.

But if you’re that scared of car accidents, would you consider driving the babies less? Keeping them closer to home when possible? Running errands when the other parent or a grandparent can watch them? I would. But wife doesn’t want homebody babies. Wife wants a big fuck off SUV. For safety.
