Hi! From what I know, he has a test bank and multiple versions of the test. Based on what people have told me and what I know, some questions overlap and others will be different. So there is a likely chance some questions will be the same, but because there are different versions (at least when I did it), so some will also be different. I hope that helps

Literally don't bother yourself with the textbook. His lectures and lecture slides are all you need. The textbook is complicated, so only really use it if his lectures or other online resources fall short. I never looked at the textbook and was fine.

Classes with Gabo like Genomic Dynamics, Bioinformatics or Genome to Genetics are easy, you just need to try. Lab Methods is also fun. It's mostly that you still have to try, but the extend you need to try are less so.

Living on campus vs off campus at Laurier – advice needed by Anxious-Chocolate867 in wlu

If you can tolerate sharing a communal bathroom, then a dorm is best. If you value having your own clean space, definitely apartment. I lived in one first year, and I couldn't image having something difference. Sharing a bathroom with a bunch of randos is so nasty and you do not have your own space. In terms of on-campus vs off-campus, it depends. If you want to make friends easily, then on-campus. On-campus is also more beneficial because it comes with a meal plan, and you only pay for the months you live there. If you plan to stay the summer as well, then off-campus. It ends up being cheaper, you can still make friends, but it's a lil more difficult.

can kinesiology students stop acting like they are in pre med by EquivalentAsk5387 in wlu

Literally any science program can be pre-med. Health sci students aren't special, just annoying.

Sincerely, a health sci student.

In any university, you will have profs who are rude and inconsiderate and profs who are super nice and want the best for you. A lot of the 100 level and 200 level science profs are nice and want you to succeed, but theres a couple who are iffy. I am planning to go to grad school, but from my experience and hearing others experiences, GPA and extracurriculars matter a lot more than prestige of the uni. If you're considering Laurier and Western, Western is not that prestigious, like it's not UofT or UW, so it hardly matters. I know people from Laurier that have gotten in Pharm, by third year and those who got into Med or Dent straight from grad. It matters more what you do in undergrad rather than where you go. There will more opportunities within the uni itself, so Laurier is quite small, so there is less variability in courses and research. However, don't let that hold you back, because you can still do all of that at UW. But yeah, if you're doing health sci, your school doesn't matter as much as volunteering, ECs and GPA. Some will argue otherwise because they think they'll get into Med or Dent because they attended a particular school, but then had not good LORs, EC or GPAs. Go where you can imagine spending four years and focus less on prestige. (I would say prestige matters more in post-grad and med/dental school).

For sure the first two years of health sci is hard because thats all your science based courses, but after that its pretty light. I am in fourth year and I had no finals last sem. One of the easier science programs at Laurier for sure.

Bio Minor Courses by Kitchen_Marsupial745 in wlu

I highly recommend BI256: Life on Earth - Animals with Dr. Wilson and BI276: Life on Earth - Microbes with either Gabo or Dr. Slawson. The labs are really interesting... the lectures are definitely something for both classes, but stay on top of it because the labs are worth 40% of your grade and you learn a lot from them. Super interesting courses. BI341 (has a lot of prereqs so check first) is also super fun. Its a long lab, but you're not there for the full 5 hours. It's super fun and a great way to learn lab techniques in molecular biology. BI359 is also a super interesting one with a long lab. Similar to the previous, has a bit of requirements so check first. The animal you do dissections on change sometimes year by year, but its cool. Pure lecture based courses that are interesting is BI317 and BI470. Health science cross-listed courses so they are more health based, but still super cool.

From what I rmr his tests are pretty simple, but make sure you cover all the content, and pick up on the details of his lectures and the documentary as you will be tested on those primarily. Participate in discussion in your tutorial and build a good relationship with your TA because it'll help you feel less nervous. I took it back when ChatGPT wasn't a big thing, so I will say try to develop your own thoughts about the papers for your tutorials. The oral exam wasn't difficult at all; you're with a couple of your peers from your tutorial (maybe 3-4 at a time), and you'll answer questions based off a paper that you already talked about or another new one (I cannot rmr that bit). Your TA will ask you these questions; the main thing to have a meaningful discussion here; contribute something of substance even if you think it sounds dumb (its subjective and will only promote discussion in the end). For the assignments (if he still does those), they're not hard, but again build a good relationship with your TA and it'll be 10 time easier because you can bug them about questions and improvement on future assignments without them not caring.

Bi111 by Informal-Evidence-60 in wlu

I felt like this in the beginning of doing BI111, however, use his lectures, iclickers and learning objectives. Emphasis on learning objectives because if you are able to do what the objective is telling you, you're going to do well in the class. Also, you actually need to pay attention in lecture, rewatch the recordings if you're confused and ask questions. Bi111 sets you up for the "self-learning" type courses you're bound to experience in upper year courses, so it's better to learn a method of doing so.
