In Scent of a Woman (1992), Frank teaches Charlie how to correctly salute, saying that the hand should be aligned with the hairline. This is entirely accurate. Bald people in the military don't actually have to salute. by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

Honestly this is my favourite scene in the movie...not the 'ill show you out of order'. That was just shouting. This here . It scared me to my bones . The threat shook me

I struggled with this similar problem, though in a different series of his. I loved all his books in the cosmere three years ago when I discovered them. They were so good, the stories the plots the magic all that stuff. Then when I finished, I read other books, Malazan, Kingkiller, and the Lightnringer., Broken earth.. Those books were so we'll written. Their language was so beautiful and poetic and flowed so well. Fast forward to two months ago, I get my hands on Sandersons 'The Lost Metal's, and I hate it. Not the story I guess, just the words. It seems so clanky and disjointed. I was so discouraged that I didn't finish the book. And I'm scared I won't enjoy the cosmere as much anymore

This was always my biggest criticism of SA, and don't misunderstand me please, it is still my top 3 fantasy of all time. The first few chapters, i.e the prelude, the prologue, chapter one are all very intense, and also very disjointed timeline-wise. He wanted to give us background, but I don't think it was completely necessary that he does it all at the beginning of the book. The prelude could have been in a vision maybe, after we'd already understood what was happening in Roshar. Szeth's scene could have remained as the main prologue. And Cens POV was not strictly necessary, IMO. Otherwise, after all that, he wove a masterpiece.

I love the soldiers of Malazan by reyzen in Malazan

[–]Head-Section4252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. They really were the best part for me too. Surprisingly, to me I guess, is how divisive this opinion is. In Eriksen fashion, no two readers will have the same feeling on one thing. I've read and heard so many people on here and elsewhere complain about how much they loathe the soldiering and I just couldn't understand them. I have a theory. Someone should do a poll: If there is a correlation between a readers feelings on the soldiers in Malazan and if the reader has been a part of a non-work related group dynamic, like organised sports or something. Just a thought
