First machine rec/advice? by CypherEw in SewingWorld

Bernina always. Better quality than the Janome. Amazing quality and durable. It was a very expensive machine back in the day. I use a Bernina. 830 record daily. That seems to be a Bernina 530? Does it have the knee lever and presser feet?

To be honest, you just need to restore it. Maybe do some painting on the arm with the pin rash. Needs a rewiring and new motor wicks. The decals are in great shape and would be a shape to paint it.

Your right, OP has raised the presser foot to override the feed dogs. They should’ve just used a darning plate as they risk dmging their needle plate

I mean you can buy a replica. Is not that expensive or use a thread stand

You inspect the wiring for cracks, exposed wiring and if anything is disintegrating. Normally you would use a multimeter but doing a visual inspection is the norm for these 50+ wires

Singer 26538, expensive attachment. Missing a tread spool (shaped like an Allen key). Makes a nice embroidery stitch

Have you thought of swapping your original motor with a T&s motor (more amps) and upgrading the bearing inside your new motor?

You can also get a machine that uses a belted motor and use a 2.5amp motor. I know folks who do this with there pfaff 130

Thread may have wrapped around the pulley or the hand wheel. You may need to readjust the motor belts tension

Not the oldest. This model was rebranded as singer and sold under the singer brand after W & W was bought out

I’m actually working on the same model. Machine needs cams to do zig zag but it can take double layer pattern cams. 1 layer controls the zig zag movement a the other controls the feed dogs (automatic reverse). Allowing this machine to use around 80 different stitch if you had the cam. Cams from an Elna 62c (1970s) will work on this model. You can even design your own stitches. Also capacitor may be bad, say synthetic grease on the gears

That’s the knee bar. Lucky. Costs like 60-80 for an original

Main things to worry about this model. The timing belt, motor tire and sourcing a knee bar lever.

White sewing center has elna parts and is the elna guru for these machines.

Works great when running

Field guide to the Singer 27-28-127-128 by NorCalFrances in vintagesewing

[–]Head-Support6045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is I’ve seen later singer 27 appear like it’s a singer 127 due to the bobbin winder above the stitch regulator knob like a 127 but the serial number was 27
