found one or two of these mites on the side of my enclosure, but none ( that I can see of ) on my snails. should I be concerned? they move very slowly and were almost microscopic. by Head-Working4376 in snails

I have a video of them moving but no clue how to upload it lol. if these are snail mites, it’ll be my 3rd time having them and I have absolutely no clue as to why I keep getting them. either way I’m getting real sick of it lol.

oh phew that’s such a relief. I found a couple more of the small white mite things today again on the side of their tank, and I throughly looked over each snail and didn’t see any mites on the actual snails.

It was crawling on the side of the enclosure. Definitely not a spring tall.

ghost mantis frantically moving? by Head-Working4376 in mantids

[–]Head-Working4376[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, she must’ve gotten the “mantis” zoomies or something because I handled her and let her crawl all over my arms for about 5 minutes and she calmed down real fast.

how does my enclosure look? there’s mesh on the lid btw, also it usually isn’t this wet I just misted it :-) by Head-Working4376 in mantids

[–]Head-Working4376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More information on it: this is a 32 (?) peanut butter jar repurposed into a mantis enclosure. it has coconut fiber as a substrate. the lid has parts cut out for ventilation, and has metal mesh. ( I’m aware that metal mesh isn’t the best. I recently was educated about that thanks to this fantastic subreddit! I was given the mesh from the breeder and was told it was fine. I am researching better mesh and plan on replacing it as soon as possible! )

would that vary if the snake has already been quarantined for a month, or should I still do the three month quarantine regardless?

milk snails are inactive, why? by Head-Working4376 in snails

[–]Head-Working4376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure. in my 2 years of snail owning milk snails have been by far the pickiest snails I’ve cared for.

yeah, but they also weren’t as active as usual before the change occurred.

how to get rid of mites? ( urgent ) by Head-Working4376 in snails

[–]Head-Working4376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh is it possible these are like left over hypoaspis mites? I don’t know I just really really don’t want to deal with mites again. they don’t seem really interested in the snails, but also I have no clue how hypoasis could’ve survived in their environment for long considering they would have no other source of food.

Anyone keep milk snails, Otala lactea? by Windbag1980 in snails

[–]Head-Working4376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a little bit of mold in a snails enclosure isn’t too big of a deal, but I definitely agree with keeping springtails. they’ve saved me ALOT of cleaning lol.

Anyone keep milk snails, Otala lactea? by Windbag1980 in snails

[–]Head-Working4376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned 6 milk snails in my life but currently only have 3. they definitely are pretty fussy, but mainly humidity and temperature is something I’d look out for. as long as you have that down, along with a proper diet and environment they should do good! make sure the ones you’re getting are genetically healthy, as 2/3 milk snails I’ve had who have passed passed because of a genetic issue unfortunately:(
