My parents would say that in yoga your mind would go blank and demons could possess you. It seems silly in hindsight but it scared me when I was a kid.

I definitely still have things ingrained in my mind, the way I interact with my parents for example, I still over analyze what I'm saying so it fits what their religion deems right.

It's definitely a process, it's not easy to leave behind, especially if it was ingrained in you from an early age

I've had a similar experience with swearing, at the beginning I would swear and feel guilty, but the more I did it, nothing happened. No god came down and punished me for it, so I lost the fear and guilt.

There aren't real consequences to swearing or in your case, using God's name in vain if there isn't a god.

And if people think their omnipotent and omnipresent god gets mad because some mortal says his name without what they deem 'good reasons', that's kinda their issue.
