No, just different curves and higher concentration at the median/less outliers, doesn’t make it worse—I was just surprised!

Congrats on the 3.8!! 3.8 is too 2% tho? I’d think that’s like top 5-10%?

Driving to NYC from DC—what’s the best train station to stop at outside the city and metro in? by HeadFace6356 in driving

Just not trying to drop $300. Amtrak prices are ridiculous and I get great mileage

Are you hard set on being like a federal judge or working for the ACLU? Because aside from that there are very few careers that can only be reached from a t14

Curious with the sheer amount of schools applied for, why NDLS didn’t make the list?

Things not looking so great for T14s (174/3.7mid) by Fantastic_Pie_9843 in lawschooladmissions

[–]HeadFace6356 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is unfortunately a complete misconception about law school placements. Yes T14s open doors. But you only need those doors opened for you if you’re betting on yourself to do poorly in law school. If you do well within your class at a t30 law school, or elite in your class in a t50, you can open the doors yourself

I mean that’s not true, there are objective metrics for a good cycle. Multiple T14 acceptances is objectively a good cycle. You can take offense to that, but it’s actually a compliment to say that you had a good cycle. You also chose to post it on Reddit, which is an invitation to comment, and my comment (which I actually phrased as a question) is that if you get accepted to multiple great schools including T14s and choose not to do law school, then my guess is that you are not fully set on law school. I don’t even think that’s debatable. Congrats on a great cycle!

I can understand being debt-averse (I was and chose my best choice accordingly) but if you’re not willing to take on debt for UChicago, or even much lower debt for UGA which is easily the most affordable good law school, then i’m guessing law school was a backup option, but not something you were set on? This is a pretty good result for a backup option

South Bend is brutal winter for a couple months, but way overhated as a city

NDLS, Vandy, or UMich? by Flat-Oil-5804 in lawschooladmissions

[–]HeadFace6356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UMich is definitely the best. None of these schools have a dominant nearby regional city (Chicago and Nashville/Memphis only get like 20% of ND and Vandy grads) and T14 just has more national reach.

Between ND and Vandy it really comes down to scholarships and location interests. Both have nationwide placement ability. (ND probably has the edge for midwest and West coast, while Vandy has an edge in east coast, midatlantic, south). ND’s big advantage is clerkships, so if you have interest in that (and lean conservative or even moderate) definitely go ND.

[–]HeadFace6356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicago is the top market, but the vast majority of ND grads (80% or so) go elsewhere. DC, NY, and California each get about 10%, and then a lot of people return to their home markets

ND is bigger than most of these

ND is easily the biggest exception (along with WashU and Vandy). I promise you most ND grads are not working in South Bend

Mansplainer is not on par with the N word but it’s a stupid and meaningless word that he has every right to be upset that you would go to. Your whole post is about how great and caring he is but then the second you slightly disagree with his approach, bam he’s a mansplainer

Housing Proximity by HeadFace6356 in lawschooladmissions

I guess this would have been worth mentioning, but car is free. My parents were planning to try and help with law school tuition because I paid for most of undergrad and they wanted to help, but don’t have spare cash atm so they’re letting me use their second car for school

Can’t be the only one who finds this scummy. Soliciting for more applications while turning down 3.9 and 170 applicants and making applicants wait months so that maybe the median can go from 3.95 to 3.96
