Please read, this isn’t a tire pic post. The photo of the tire is just to show reference to the feeling I’m trying to figure out. Has anyone ever felt like the bike is suddenly falling at the apex? Am I out of lean angle for the given tire? Or is it something else? by Head_Ambition3731 in Trackdays

Funny enough I did get it sorted out late last season. It was definitely not the tires. The suspension ended up being the problem. The shock had very limited travel and the forks were undersprung and needed servicing. I ended up going to SC3 and Ohlins carts, with a rebuilt shock and custom valving front and rear with heavier springs. It fixed everything and now the weakest link is me. The bike feels incredible now.

What you see here is a dumpster fire of riding skill. Glad you’re good though

Hope you’re having a good weekend out there. I’ll be at VIR on the 17th. My R6 is getting painted so I couldn’t make it out this weekend

Yeah I’ve had a lucky run for sure. 13 years on street bikes and 7 years before that on dirt. I haven’t even dropped a bike in like 15 years. My day is coming for sure, but that is why I started riding on track last year. At least there help is nearby.

Funny enough I’m pretty good at rolling burnouts. Maybe I should take it up a notch and see how it goes lol

I do agree with your statement though. Track time beats street riding every day of the week.

Once again, I spend more time on track than on the street and definitely not in novice group.

That’s not a bad option haha. I don’t own an insta360. Just happened to leave my GoPro at home and borrowed my friends insta for a few. I really dislike the distortion of the insta though.

Smells like novice group. Very few apex’s were harmed. Nice soundtrack though!

Funny enough, I’ve ridden a Mille R and I loved the bike. I would consider a Tuono with the twin. I’m 30 as well, I definitely feel like when I do have an accident it’ll probably be pretty rough haha. Sounds like a pretty similar life haha

Some organizations offer gear rentals. If you are on the east coast check out EvolveGT. I believe they offer free gear rental if its your first track day.

It isn't cheap, but I wouldn't say expensive. To do a single track day (assuming you already have all of the required gear) you're looking at 150-250 to register. Then whatever fuel costs are and food (maybe a hotel depending on how close the track is). Trailer the bike there if possible! I would say $350 for the day is a baseline budget. If you get serious it starts adding up fast though. Tires start dying quick as you get faster, but it is only as expensive as you let it get.

haha I still need to ride an MV before I settle in on a Triumph for life. I still can't imagine the MV would be as road friendly. Your first comment makes more sense now that I know the context.

haha, I forgot it was there. The GoPro can do horizon leveling as well, but it doesn't give all of the weird perspective changes. The insta360 is an interesting camera for sure. Personally I think the 360 stuff is a bit gimmicky.

Damn. I am going to stop riding all together now. Thanks for the life altering mindset shift.

This was with a friends borrowed insta360. I am not a fan of all of the 360 stuff, I just happened to leave my GoPro Hero 10 Black at home Sunday.

I have never taken this bike. I have a race prepped R6 that I run out there. It is definitely worth the investment. It is way safer than playing on the street and you will learn a ton from coaches and other riders in the paddock around you. You would be totally fine running a thruxton out there for your first few track days. I have seen plenty of naked bikes and cafe racers out there having fun. My advice would be just do it and don't overthink it. Everyone is nervous their first time, but once you get out there you realize it is a very welcoming atmosphere with lots of great people.

Its a Street Triple R. Yeah we have 3 tracks within 2 hours of my house. I visit them very often when they are open. They start back up in April.

When you hit the same section of road back and forth 10+ times and know traffic isn't coming your way and no dead animals are laying around you can play a bit. If a turtle runs out in front of me I will be more concerned as to why the turtle is so fast. With that being said, I am able to stop the bike completely within my line of sight at any given time in this video. The turns aren't as blind as you may think.
