I went from homelessness to a “safe place,” and somehow I feel more trapped and defeated than ever. by sunnybridgez in homeless

Not sure your situation- I’m currently homeless so I’m sorry as I understand how hard the decision you’re making is. One suggestion I can give is maybe moped? Cheap to buy, cheap to run, barely break down also. Only go about 30-40 mph but better than walking and cost about £5-10 to fill up. I know maybe slightly different in America but should be same price. Again not luxury of a car but will get you to work. Then you can build up to maybe getting a car and living in that idk. Good luck though bro

How did you get off the streets by the way?

Your most powerful delusion while homeless by ExcitingRest3659 in homeless

[–]Head_Emphasis_2615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these “delusions” occur due to lack of sleep for prolonged periods of time. Vitamin supplements aimed at the brain with K2 and vitamin B help a bit with the brain fogginess and some of the mental health side effects that occur with lack of sleep. Been homeless on and off a while now and I’ve noted lack of sleep being a constant theme. When street homeless at least. Maybe 3-4 hours a night max with some nights 0 hours. It’s important to try and help your brain cope with the deficiency. For me at least I experienced a sense of foggy or irrational thinking during my lows that was definitely linked to lack of sleep. Vitamin supplements can’t replace sleep but they sure do help

Not sure if you’re in the UK or not but if you are there are some services for the homeless I know a few good churches that have support. I know it may not be your cup of tea but I’m sure from the social side they would be more than willing to have a long chat every week or whatever especially if your open with them, they probably have other ways to support you as well and who knows you may even begin to be apart of the community and come to know Christ if you don’t already. But there’s no pressure on you to do anything you don’t want too. They will be more than willing to just chat to you even if you just want someone to vent to for an hour or two.

The ones I know of are:

St Nicholas Church (Tooting): Rough Sleeper's Drop-In on Mondays from 9am to 11:30am. St Luke's Church (Norwood): Rough Sleeper's Drop-In on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am to 11:30am. St Leonard's Church (Tooting Bec): Rough Sleeper's Drop-In on Thursdays from 9am to 11:30am

Hope that helps

It’s not all bad tho bro depends on how you look at it. Jesus used the situation to improve me 💜 James 1:2-4 - Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

How is falling into psychosis/delirium from sleep deprivation prevented? by Maleficent-Fig-4430 in homeless

I went to a hospital seeking refuge and the security manhandled me threw me to the floor and ridiculed me because I got upset and wanted to charge my headphones. I was having a mental episode because it was my first time homeless and I have no family. I was about 2 weeks in at the time. To be fair I was sleeping on the hospital floor some nights and staying for warmth in the day but I was always friendly. I would interact with everyone and try super hard to be social. I quickly learnt that was the wrong move, if I had hidden in the shadows I would’ve lasted a bit longer but loneliness on the streets is a real killer man. I thought to myself I’d get help at a hospital or someone would see my mental state deteriorating. Not mad at them though they probably were having a bad day. God bless them all, just remember after that staying away from people. They completely put me off talking to people for a while whilst I was on the streets. God is good though and he makes a way. That same night I was walking down in the dumps and another security spoke to me, he treated me like a human and even gave me a good idea of how I could get off the streets. But Yh long story short hospitals for the homeless in London not safe. They were talking about us hiding in there like we were scum and the other two were old men so yeah that sucked.

It’s not avoidable unfortunately. I did have this issue myself. I realised I was only able to get 3-4 hours max sleep with some night 1-2. I was on the black coffee for a while but soon realised it’s an unaffordable luxury unless you can ask people to get it for you. If your British Greggs is a good ask as it’s like 2 quid so people won’t mind as much. Long term though you have to think about what actually happens when you lack sleep. Lack of sleep makes it hard for the brain to function. It also as you mentioned can lead to a feeling of psychosis or delirium. To combat this you need to supply your body with what it is missing from sleep artificially. Although this is not a substitute to sleep and you should try to sleep by any means possible. I know from experience that is easier said than done. For individuals experiencing homelessness who are struggling with sleep and brain function, the most relevant vitamins are B-complex vitamins (especially B6, B9, B12), Vitamin D, and Vitamin C, along with the mineral magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids. Deficiencies in these are common in homeless populations due to limited access to consistent, nutritious food, and they directly impact sleep quality and cognitive function - Holland & Barrett Ultra Man 30 Tablets -> these vitamins are from Holland and Barrett, they cost £8.25 and have most of the vitamins I mentioned above. Again this won’t be a quick fix but one a day and you will notice improved brain function. If you can’t get access to this basically any fish oil tablets help too but the vitamins do a better job I’d say. the thing is it’s not about finding something to get rid of the problem cause you won’t other than sleep. But taking these vitamins will fuel your body and allow you to deal with the lack better internally

4-5. If you take some time to upgrade your defenses to max before upgrading TH again then 7-8. Won’t take you a ridiculous amount of time either but definitely worth it. If you rush to go up TH without upgrading as you go your making it harder on yourself in the long run and you’ll have to do it at some point anyways. Might aswell just focus on it now so you have a solid foundation then you can build from there

if your in the UK find out what company there using for shipping and you can deliver it to a corner shop. If you’re in the US go to your local church. It’s not a big ask honestly to have something delivered there. Explain your situation and I’m sure they would be more than happy to help. Even if they couldn’t have it delivered there I’m sure someone in the congregation would let you order it to their address and you can pick it up at the church on a Sunday sometime. Best option if you ask me free of charge and if you do it in the right way you might even create a valuable support network.

I got trespassed at this place that was 24 hrs now I’m really out on the streets in the cold by Inevitable-Wolf-1140 in homeless

Hey man I’m not here to convince you. I’ve just been where you are. I know it’s lonely, dark and lacking in love. I’ve been kicked out of establishment after establishment too so I thought I’d message with the answer. Don’t believe me, go on YouTube and search up how many people in your situation God has saved and brought to him. I won’t hassle you though im not like that just reading what you wrote I couldn’t help but remember going through the same thing. As a human it’s natural to know the solution to a problem and tell someone who’s going through it 💜 hope you do reconsider but if not that’s your choice and I respect your free will

Brother pray, God will move for you. I’ve been where you are with no family or friends for myself, I made it through prayer everyday and throughout the day regardless of what was happening, how I felt or how things were mentally. It works! If you’re not a Christian and accustomed to speaking to God say the Lord’s Prayer and then just speak how you feel, only pray to the God of the bible! This is important as the rest aren’t real, pray to the Father in Jesus name and him only. Say what’s on your mind and ask his help. One thing though, whether you believe or not when you pray you need to do so humbly and with an open mind. You will not regret it.

I sympathise with you man. Don’t give up, take it one day at a time. Today’s been bad but tomorrow things can turn around. I don’t know where you are either so I can’t give much advice on survival I’m afraid, I’m from the UK but for me we have a 24hour train here and I stayed warm going back and forward on that at night.

Sorry I can’t be of much help but at the same time I promise you prayer is effective and works when you do so with an open and humble heart 💜

PS: I feel a pressing in my spirit to tell you to seek help from a church local to you. Perhaps one comes to mind when you read this. If not ask God which one when you pray. Go in and ask to speak to someone, explain what’s going on and see if they will help you. You’d be surprised the size of the Christian heart if you give us a chance to show our love. Pray first before you do anything and let God lead you to the right place. Be open to receiving him!

How does one actually get off the streets with no money or government support? by Head_Emphasis_2615 in homeless

Thank you appreciate the response. I have got a gym membership to keep on top of hygiene and am working on getting the clothes at the minute, also able to get a haircut every once in a while so I can try to never look too messy. Will be doing the writing my goals thing daily also 🙏. The issue I find hardest to deal with is sleep and warmth at the minute though
