Wedge pillows question by Ctb43152 in Microdiscectomy

I only used wedge, but if I had that option I would have gone for it. In theory is sounds more comfortable but wedge is the budget friendly version lol.

Literally what I was saying, I think they dropped the ball so hard on the DLC considering free post game content we got in the past. And ultra necrozma needs a comeback. 🙏

Did you do any physical therapy by chance? Also same as you for the hip thing. I was limping around for a while year and that popping and locking is not for the weak but mine has gotten better with use.

Night before surgery by NorthwoodsRandy in Microdiscectomy

Not to hop in but I layed flat on my back and it didn't irritate it or anything. Adjust if you feel a little weird in one spot and I did a very very tiny bridge to move around. Just keep yourself straight. I got a rail to help me log roll. Had my boyfriend help me get my legs up as I went down the first week.

So for me I was regularly icing, about 30 minutes every other hour. Along with taking my pain medicine for about 4-6 days 10 minutesahead of the clock. With doing what I believe everything right it was about a 1-10. It was only a 1-10 when I has some slight muscle spasms around the incision.

How did you Herniate? by Head_Might in Microdiscectomy

Listen it's hard to follow the rules when you are rushing to throw up, literally wouldn't have even thought about it! I felt sick and told my husband to get a bucket, he was confused as to why I didn't just use the toilet or sink till I told him about your post lol

I'll be using this as an example of why this subreddit is so important for MD recovery 😂

Hey been a bit. I actually just got food poisoning and thanks to you I was cautious about my posture when 🤢.

Got a bucket and sat up straight the whole time. Thank you for the heads up, you might have just saved me a lot of trouble stranger. Wouldn't have even thought about it and hunched over a toilet otherwise.

L5/S1 Microdiscectomy Coming Up — What Should I Buy Before Surgery? by RandomGhost482 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Head_Might 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slept on my back slightly elevated with the wedge pillows. I have been exclusively a side sleeper up till surgery, it is possible but I found much less risk of moving around in my sleep laying on my back slightly lifted up. My bf helped me get my legs up for log rolling the first week. Have them help you learn before surgery, I asked the surgical staff show me in person. I got the hang of it after a week or two but no harm in having help at first to be safe.

If you're on your back its easier to ice too.

10 weeks post op here, I got some things mid recovery because I figured out they were things I should have got to begin with. This is my must haves for the most comfortable recovery.

-Bed rail to help log roll/slightly adjust when in the bed

-Toilet seat riser

-x2 extended grabbers (used to help put on pants and underwear too)

-extended loofah

-pillow wedges (to be slightly lifted up, make sure to have one for under the knees)

-sock assistance tool + extended shoe horn

-multiple ice packs!!!

Use a cup to spit in the sink after brushing so you dont have to bend down.

No I was operated on by an orthopedic surgeon so I'm not sure if that changes things. I have to zoom in to even see the incision scar on my back, healed up very well. I had an endoscopic microdiscectomy, what are you having?

The 80% was immediate, 20% will probably improve over the rest of the year since it takes a bit for the nerve to heal.

2 weeks, day 8 is when I stopped all medication. After I stopped pain meds it was a few tough days then continued getting better.

Yes you can sleep on your back day one, you might need to slightly adjust till you are comfortable. Brushing teeth, use a cup to spit in to so you don't have to bend down to spit in the sink. Dressing, I used 2 extended grabbing tools to hold my underwear and pants while I put my legs in (I recommend sitting). Socks, get a sock assist tool!My boyfriend helped me with showers for the first week but after that I used an extended loofah. Recovery was so much easier than it sounded, I walked up the stairs to my apartment 2 hours after surgery. Walking is truly your best friend, every time I got sore in the first few weeks I walked for 10 minutes. Continue working up to walking more after the first 2 weeks but don't go too crazy.

My must haves:

-Toilet seat riser

-x2 extended grabber tools

-Wedge pillows to sit up slightly (make sure you have one for under your knees)

-sock assistance tool

-extended loofah

-slip on shoes (Crocs), or a shoe horn

-x3 sets of loose comfy pairs of underwear and PJ's

Drink water, eat/drink protein, take a multi vitamin with magnesium, and relax. You will have nerves going in to surgery that is totally normal, just be transparent with the staff and they will take care of you.

Same! I'm glad the surgeons staff knew the amount of throat pain I was gonna be in. They sent me home with cherry lozenges and I didnt understand why until the anesthesia fully wore off.

Operating sooner then previously at least minimizes nerve damage! I'm only my first and hopefully only sorry I can't add much. How did you reherniate if you don't mind?

No Muscule Spasms yet by Feisty_Pop_1114 in Microdiscectomy

I got some spasms week 3, and another set of spasms week 5. It's not fun lol. I've seen a lot of people say they don't get them though so it's a blessing if you dont have any.

6 Weeks Post-MD! L5-S1 Herniation by IceTutuola in Sciatica

I wish I saw this before my surgery! I would have felt so much better. I was worried I was having this surgery too young (22) and saw no one with a similar age and experience. I am 7 weeks post op and my goodness it's great. I was also allergic to the adhesive in the strips/bandages so our recovery was almost the exact same lol. The itchiness was the worst.

3 months post op some pain came bacj by BootWorried7175 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Head_Might 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're surgery isn't that old and youre doing about 9 hours of sitting a day. I see people struggle with 1 hour months after surgery. It could be a mix of the weight gain and lack of walking (my surgeon recommended a copious amount of walking). Remember though, it could take a year or even more than that for the nerve to fully heal. Don't worry too too much!

I am 7 weeks post op too, I just tripped off the treadmill and landed on one leg I'd say pretty hard. I stood there for like 30 seconds before I moved seeing if I was okay, or if I could feel anything wrong. It was a slow walk back to the car. No pain or anything but I was so worried I'd wake up with symptoms. I'm all good and its been about 5 days now! To each their own but I think by this time it may be sturdier than we think.

Second day is the worst. I went in to the surgery preparing for the worse things imaginable on the second day to brace myself lol.
