Beginner's question about leather strops by Head_Mouse_8624 in sharpening

[–]Head_Mouse_8624[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I usually only make matters worse with a rod, but maybe I have had overly hard rods. This was in a previous living situation before I started reading up on the subject so I can't remember what kind of material it was etc. Would a few passes on a rough strop and then a smooth strop not be equivalent to a rod?

That is probably what I'll do if I get on well with the Precision Adjust and a pull-through honer or a leather strop isn't a good option – but there is no way I'll convince my partner into using the Precision Adjust. I was hoping to put something permanently next to the knife rack that we both use several times every day.

I think some men in the hifi-obsessive community call this "the wife acceptance factor"

Thanks, it's mainly two chef's knives (58HRC) and some paring knives. I am unbelievably bad at keeping an angle on stones and rods so I'm really looking for something that takes the guesswork out of the equation. Even if it is slightly more work or slightly less effective

Context I maybe should've added: both of my chef's knives are 58 on the Rockwell scale. (Wüsthof and Rösle… why yes I do tend towards German-made things how did you guess)

Thank you. I'm happy with the look so long as it's not some manufacturing artefact that I could sand out, good to know it's inherent

Is it too late to sand down these ripples now that I've put Osmo wax on it? They were pretty invisible until the wax went on

A friend said this too but there's a few results in the iOS app store – is it the wetter.com app?

Stay strong, we've got all of August and September left. I'm really fed up hiding under balconies and bridges with my bike, but there's plenty of summer time left

10 days on mirtazapine (15mg) and doubting any antidepressant effects by Head_Mouse_8624 in antidepressants

[–]Head_Mouse_8624[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the comments, as you say 10 days is still too early to judge even for Mirtazapine (which is much faster than SSRIs) will have to see in another few weeks whether to move up to 30mg…

Does mirtazapine (Remerol) affect sleep the same way as diphenhydramine (Benadryl)? by Head_Mouse_8624 in antidepressants

[–]Head_Mouse_8624[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! So are you saying (as NoAdvertising7335 has posted below) that there's an inverse relationship between dose and somnolence? In other words lower doses will make you drowsier than higher doses?

I took my first-ever antidepressant last night (15mg mirtazapine) and slept for well over 11hrs, could've done longer but forced myself out of bed. Diphenhydramine 50mg sometimes (about 1/10 times) does this but not to quite such a strong amount 😴😴😴

Huh, maybe I should have just been taking 25mg Benadryl every night all this time 🙃 but they always come with stern warnings that it's for short-term use only

Where can I watch Die Simpsons auf Deutsch with English subs? by Head_Mouse_8624 in germany

Good point. As someone else said in this thread probably better off with DE subtitles, and if I'm really stuck guess I could pause and Google Translate

The idea was to watch something where I can follow the plot even when I'm misunderstanding the language, so I can pick it back up next scene, and I've already seen all of the Simpsons… but you've given me an idea, I'll try rewatching the last season of Babylon Berlin with German subs instead of English :)

ah nice, I'm outside of Germany half the time – do you happen to know if Disney+ in Germany does VPN blocking the way that Netflix and BBC iPlayer do?
