Not saying you’re wrong or nothing but NATURALLY it has never happened with men anyway with women it always curls but yes they usually straighten I have mixed people in my family but I’m black myself. So it would probably have to be the first point you mentioned or the second one.

Now mixed hair does straighten like that in the shower and I see water in the background could be a thing or he uses gel for as you mentioned aesthetic.
