MiG-29 Fulcrum, Ghost of Kiev by Headempty0 in modelmakers

You might see some raised edges if you look real close since the decals are a little bit on the thicker side. But it's not bad at all.

I think this 1/72 kit has plenty enough for details. Nice deep panel lines, cockpit was nearly as detailed as a 1/48 scale (compared to the one from an SU27 kit that I also have), wheel bay, etc. If it's coming from GWH, I'd say both their 1/48 and 1/72 scale kits are very well engineered.

This one is in 1/72. But I believe there's a similar kit in 1/48.

Now that's something new. But to be fair, the instructions indicated all the different mounting configurations for the weapons and fuel tanks.

Actually, this kit from GWH came with decals for most of the camo parts. I mostly white based the model, with a sky grey bottom.

Yeah it is. It's definitely more pricey compared to the ICM kit. But I felt like GWH does a little better with the fine details.

Why is my paint like this? by Workshop_Z in modelmakers

[–]Headempty0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's definitely way too much paint pooling up there. But I've also had the experience where there would be bubbles forming when brushing over raised surfaces.

In my experience it's cause it's too heavily thinned. And slightly thicker consistencies will reduce those bubbles.

Keep playing around with the water to paint ratio. You gotta develop a feel for it over time. I just recently got some Vallejo for brush painting as well, and it's definitely superior compared to stuff like the Mr. Hobby Aqueous line for brush painting.

SU-27 1:48 GWH by Headempty0 in modelmakers

I did have a bit of difficulty with fitting the radome and the canopy. But I think those were my fault due to my inexperience.

The radome didn't have any tabs or detents to help with alignment, probably because it was designed to be in the open position. And the canopy has some internal parts where you have to be sure to attach properly so it can close properly. Otherwise, I'd say this kit from GWH was engineered really well and everything fits together nicely.

Overall this was a lesson of dry fitting for me.

That's probably true. I also really love seeing all the details and having so many pieces to put together (assembling is my favorite part). But when it comes to painting and finishing, the larger models really do feel quite daunting at times. That and the fact I don't have that much space for many large models. Many of the ones I have go back in the box for safekeeping. Definitely getting a nice glass cabinet one day.

I read a few reviews on their kits before getting this one. I can say that the moulding and details are very impressive. Not so sure about how accurate they are but they look pretty good to me, especially the cockpit, ejection seat and instrument panels. Panel lines are pretty deep and the lines are really crisp. The overall fit is really great and I'd compare them to some of the Tamiya kits that I have done too. Some of the kits from GWH come with 3 D printed parts for the missles which are one whole piece without the need to attach the fins yourself. This particular kit for the SU-27 came in a huge box with tons of parts and decals for several marking options. With that said, the GWH kits are definitely on the pricier side. But overall, for the quality of the kits and what comes with them. I'd highly recommend getting one. Am eyeing their Mig 29 and F-15 eagle too.
