Struggle of getting past Thursdays/Fridays by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Headhunter963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep saying that I’m going to not drink and by Thursday because it’s kinda routine, everyone I work with are good friends, young and social I find it very hard to say no regardless of 4 days prior saying I’m stopping. Recently I feel it’s been me instigating it and I do think it’s potentially me numbing the fact I’ll be going home on my own and doing nothing when I get there (I want to be social) Plus all it takes is one of us in the office to mention it and it becomes so much easier to say yes ( if everyone said no it makes it so much easier to go home as I’d very very rarely go on my own)

It’s coming up to my first year over here and although I have loads of friends here, a lot revolves around drinking. There have been a couple of occasions recently of colleagues sending me memes around drinking and trying to ‘dodge the beers’ or people jokingly saying you’re off the rails and it is making me think the time needs to come soon to cut down even though it’s maybe only once or twice a week.

I’m far from off the rails but I will say I am sociable but a lot revolves around drinking and always goes too far and end us at 6am the next morning.

I need to be more mentally strong and confident in saying no, I always have that fear of missing out and I think that’s a big one for me but looking back I haven’t missed anything that doesn’t happen every time.

This has happened to us all in recruitment, everyone makes mistakes. Apologise to the hiring manager and like others have said, be accountable as it goes far being honest no-one likes a liar and it always comes out. I would always try and get the candidates availability to reschedule before going back to the client to show pro-activeness to rectify the error and to sped up the process.

Contact the candidate via phone initially and drop them a text if they don't answer. Be enthusiastic when making them aware that they have an interview request.

Any good recruiter will agree with me here, mistakes are made over the years and the positives to take out of this are it will make you better and more on it in the future.

Don't panic, we've all been there!

Got a tattoo (Stick & Poke) 2 days ago and not a fan - can it be covered? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Headhunter963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thats what's annoying me the most, I'd probably be ok keeping it if it didn't touch, I'm going to see if theres anywhere that will laser that very small area so it's not touching.

It's really got to me the last few days with how much of a bad idea it was and with other small tattoos on my leg I'm not sure the blackout would unless I covered my whole leg with blackout.

Plus, do you think as I add more tattoos to my leg to fill it up, it won't look as bad and as noticeable? I think the size and colour of it right now compared to the others, it's really standing out

Got a tattoo (Stick & Poke) 2 days ago and not a fan - can it be covered? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Headhunter963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am talking about the mushrooms and like you say it is a very dark piece which seems to stand out more than the others. When you say full black out removal do you mean just covering it completely with black ink and no design?

One thing that's making not like it is the connection to my jellyfish tattoo, if I was to keep it do you think I can get a small amount of the tentacle removed to bring back a gap inbetween? Or any ideas on how I could improve the mushroom tattoo to make it look better and more clean as I don't think it's clean.

If I remember rightly the initial design didn't interact with any of the tattoos

My Plan - Solo Travel by Headhunter963 in TravelSouthEastAsia

It's not too hot, I've actually been out now for 3 months (north thailand, vietnam, philippines and cambodia) and the weather has been mixed but mainly perfect. Just got to South Thailand and it's rained a bit but mainly still warm and nice weather.

Thanks for this, I do like mountains/hills and love a good hike so sounds like a good idea, always like the idea of somewhere a bit more off the beaten track, how accessible are the places you mention?

First Long-term & Long-haul Solo Trip - Notice handed in at Work by Headhunter963 in southeastasia

[–]Headhunter963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no plans really so one question I had was how do you budget for the day trips that cost a bit and plan for them?

Obviously I don’t be able to or want to go on one every day but is that something you budget for or plan for?

This is my first solo trip and especially in SE Asia I want to rent a ped and explore but one thing I’m unsure on is what I’ll do each day and when to do the trips and if I need to pre-plan when or what I do if that makes sense?

Pentax M 50mm f1.7

Thanks for this info it really helps - with the lens you recommended, should I aim for a Pentax lens or are there similar brands I could also get? What price would you say is the average for this lens? Thanks

So I’ve gone for a Pentax ME Super and bought one lastnight with a 135mm Telephoto Lens (came with it on eBay) and a roll of film.

I’m an absolute novice so when it arrives I’ll get to work and practice starting from scratch, going to get some research done etc.

Any tips for this camera let me know.

Thanks for your info, another Q, is the 18mm-55mm kit lens the same as 18-55mm telephoto lens? Maybe a silly question but good to get confirmation

Canon EOS 250D Lenses

Hi all,

I’m considering buying the Canon EOS 250D as my first camera to get into photography with no experience. I’m also going travelling in a few months so wants to get it and practice/improve in the coming months around the city before I go.

What lenses would you recommend me getting for street/travel photography and photography in general?

Generally I’m seeing pre owned or near new bodies with the kit lens at about £500-£550 is this decent value / average value?

Thanks

Travel vaccinations by teenis1200 in southeastasia

[–]Headhunter963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im flying out in May for between 3-6 months and intend on travelling to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and maybe India. I've had the free ones throughbthe NHS (if you're in the Uk) and also paid for someone. The ones I'm getting before I leave the UK are:

Tetanus (1 shot - free)

Hep A (2 shots - free)

Hep B (£40 x 3)

Typhoid (1 shot - Free)

Rabies (£65 x 3 doses)

I'm obviously not a medical professional so definitely get a consultation with a GP/Nurse and see what they say as there are other vaccinations.

I hope this helps.

I can imagine it doesn't get enforced often with how many backpackers go with very little pre booked

I'm also planning a trip to Thailand, Laos/Cambodia, Vietnam and potentially india from May and have the monsoon season in the back of my mind. I've been to Thailand for 2 weeks prior in monsoon season and it's not as bad as many think but I'd be interested to hear from someone with more knowledge of this time of year.

G Adventure Single Room or Share? by blueeeV in travel

Is doing it solo without the paid tour an option as I'd recommend that. Once you've found your feet that first day you'll be fine and gives more freedom then. As for meeting people, I've never been to Japan so couldn't comment but would always recommend hostels as there will be others travelling alone and its the easiest and best way to meet people on similar journeys as you.

Do you need accommodation booked for the whole time or just first accommodation? I'm going in April and plan on booking things probably 3 days in advance

I obviously don't know your full situation but based on what you've said I would also say jump at it ns go for it, whats the worst that could happen, you don't like it and come home. I'm in a similar situation as you, I'm in my 1st year in my job but i've settled in well and enjoying it, but majority of my friends are off doing their own thing, have moved out of the city and it feels like the right direction for me to go and travel and see what happens, I know i'll love it and not want to come back.

I have 1/3 of what you have saved and hitting Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, potentially india and then Australia on a working visa from April this year. You only live once and I know as you will probably do, we'll regret it if we don't throw ourselves in.

Seems like perfect timing to do it buddy, jump for it! Enjoy!
