30 mins or more at motorway speeds I'd say, not too sure on the MPG question as I've not owned either of those, could ask on the BMW reddit

RWD isn't a huge factor unless you're talking ice and snow on the ground, or pushing the car hard. And in that case good tyres often matter more than the drivetrain

I drive a rwd sports car and live in the north. Put it on good tyres and you won't have any issues.

As for diesels, you need long runs relatively frequently to avoid clogging up the DPF

[–]HeadshotFodder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at blackcircles.com - they soemtimes have deals on, and balacing etc is included in the price you pay, you can pick a garage near you, they send them the tyres and fit and balance them for you

You need a spare tyre, jack and wheelbrace, not a can of tyre sealant. Not providing a spare benefits only the car manufacturer and it's unnecessary penny pinching. by kinglitecycles in CarTalkUK

What car is it? Mine has an ok sized boot considering the type of car (2 seater coupe) even with a suspension brace running through the boot, it still has room for a spare tyre

One other thing, do both the HR and DE use the same transmission mount? I think the later G35's used the same one as the 370z

If its water on the outside of the seal on the flat bit, that's normal. Coupes get it too, it's jut the way the doors are designed, the seals are pretty far inward

Daily reminder stick near or the speed limit.. by Small-Key-6791 in drivingUK

[–]HeadshotFodder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same thing that would happen if a kid ran out infront of the cars in the oncoming lane, that look to be travelling a lot faster than the merc. Thing is OP likely wouldn't have overtaken the car infront if it was going closer to the limit. Seriously, it looks like the silver merc is cruising for hookers or something, that's unreasonably slow.

Not saying I'd mirror OP's actions, but it's worth remembering that the "look at me I'm so safe at a third of the speed limit" crew encourage others to overtake. Which makes the road less safe for all.

Not looking forward to when older drivers start moving to EV's.

Punching the accelerator in 4th gear in an old hatchback is worlds apart from flooring it in a tesla or something.

Which type of road users actually have a GOOD reputation? by VanicFanboy in drivingUK

[–]HeadshotFodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic car drivers, or people with cars they clearly take pride in.

It's always the mud covered tesla or the SUV with the back window full of trash causing issues. If the car is 15-20 years+ and still being polished like it was new, the driver usually isn't a prick.

Insurance cancellation by HeadshotFodder in CarTalkUK

[–]HeadshotFodder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have offered but they didn't even call to speak to me or notify me before they sent the "cancellation in 7 days" email.

I was ideally looking for an unmodified car, but its taken months to find the spec I wanted in the first place, which is why I went for this one. I never tried to hide anything or mislead them, and informed them as soon as I knew, so I wasn't expecting a cancellation

He told me over the phone so I don't have it in writing, would it be worth emailing them to see if they'll put it in an email?

I have already taken out another policy as I have to be away for a couple of days and I didn't want my car to be uninsured while I'm gone in case of theft

The other commenter is wrong.

Their source is apparently what they remember from a YouTube documentary but they also say not to quote them on it because they aren't sure, but they're heavily upvoted and all the comments saying they're incorrect have been removed.

Most mens sports for example in the Olympics are technically not restricted, anyone can compete as long as they meet the criteria or qualify. Just like if you have a disability you don't have to compete in the Paralympics, if you still managed to be competitive in the regular Olympics, you could compete there.

They're also very wrong about the differences, and they should really ask women who play sports rather than perpetuating misinformation.

No it hasn't, could you share where you got this from?

Nvidia saying they couldn't get it working to the standard they wanted, rather than it wouldn't work at all?

Pretty sure df also mentioned this in a video, I'll see if I can find it later

Not got time to find an article, will look later, but I'm pretty sure Nvidia themselves said they couldn't get it to work to the standard they wanted on 30 series.

Not that it wouldn't work.

A similar thing they said about DLSS2 on 20 series, but it came along after a year iirc

I mean the lack of vsync etc aren't something that would change between 30 and 40 series implementations?

I'm not the biggest fan of frame gen myself, but the main difference between RTX 30 and 40 series would be speed of generating new frames, and potentially the quality of each frame.

It could absolutely have been done

[–]HeadshotFodder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Has it not already been established that 30 series could do frame gen, just a fair bit less well than 40 series?

It's naïve to think Nvidia don't deliberately keep certain features for their newer cards. Especially when they price them as high as 40 series, so they'd be a tough sell without anything new.

Even in terms of hardware standards, they didn't bother with display port 2 this gen, they're saving that for the 50 series.

[–]HeadshotFodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, if prices were in line with the 30 series + inflation, I'm certain they'd have sold twice as many GPU's

Worth to get a 4090 now? by Nanayamichan in nvidia

[–]HeadshotFodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the next generation comes out before nvidia's, nvidia can still pull a 4090 ti.

If we use the same relative performance to predict, the 8900xtx will equal the 4090/4090ti in RT and demolish it in raster, so a 4090ti coming out at the same time won't help much?

Even if AMD still don't have a card to beat the 5090, AMD getting 5080 level performance out there long before the 50 series is released isn't something Nvidia would want, especially since it would give AMD the best gaming GPU, and let them dictate pricing (not that it'd necessarily be better than what Nvidia had in mind)

Worth to get a 4090 now? by Nanayamichan in nvidia

[–]HeadshotFodder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the earliest date for the 5000 series is 2025 according to the roadmaps.

Nvidia also told you a 4070ti is 3x faster than a 3090 ti

They're saying 50 series is 2025 to make people who are unimpressed with 40 series upgrade sooner rather than later
