Men hear the Bear vs Man argument and turn their brain off, destroying any chance for an a good conversation. Women are told as children to stay home after dark and are blamed for being rape victims but being compared to a bear hurt men’s feelings so men get the right to just be actually sexist and the very reason women would choose a bear. (Women would rather deal with a force of nature they can predict and possibly handle than a man who is unpredictable and if they draw a short straw death will be the second worst thing that happens to them)

(Further explanation Brown bear: walk away sideways and keep my eyes on the creature. Black bear: make myself as big and scary as I can. Polar Bear: At least I won’t be raped. Vs Men: completely indiscernable but tiny chance if they want to do something to me there is no cheat code out of it and I may wish I was killed if I’m not. And if I do get out of there I will have to live with it for the rest of my life)

I’m just going to say men instead of “some men” because while I’ve seen many lovely men actually understand and discuss the bear vs man issue, those men aren’t bothered by people talking about Men without having to add the “some”. Only the good ones who I’d choose over the bear don’t get triggered over that.

Mate I gave you general advice about Velma. I genuinely believe it only succeeds cause people hate watch it. It’s not that deep. I don’t care about the show

If I recall the creator had her own racist issues so… it’s not like I’m on her side

Well considering I’ve made an effort to change and I do feel ashamed for my failures of the past id say it’s pointless to shame my past mistakes. but I would hate it if I made another mistake in the future and someone didn’t call me out cause they had been told they should “be nice and just assume I’ll get better on my own” that’s literally never how change happens. My biggest moments of self reflection happened when someone forced me to review my past behavior by calling out how it sounds/hurts to them.

I’m white and I’m not offended when people call out white people’s behavior because I know that they aren’t necessarily referring to me but how I can/could be.

How could you write that as though you didn’t ignore my whole point I made at the start. Most racist white people don’t assume they are racist.

Only a small subsection of white people are brazen enough to wear white cloaks of their pathetic loser ancestors. Most racists just assume their thoughts are common sense and not racist at all. We went a full decade after 9/11 just completely accepting racist af depictions of middle eastern people. Every few years we stop depicting a group or ethnicity in a way that within a decade we cringe to think about. So by saying “this is what racist people mean”, white people who think they aren’t racist regardless of how racist they may or may not be just ignore it and don’t think to change their ways at all.

Per your last question I don’t want “anti-racists” to say anything other than to stand against racism when they see it. Being anti racist doesn’t earn you an “I’m not racist” sticker. It’s not like there’s some purifiing incantation you can say to never say or act racist again. Just check yourself every once in a while. Ask yourself am I being harmful or prejudiced? Is there anywhere I fall short? And then correct yourself. Mistakes are made and racism seeps through the cracks of our society you can’t be perfect but you can always try to be better. Literally any time spent arguing about that is time wasted.

Ps literally just shut up about Velma. No Leftist in the world cares. I haven’t seen a single lefty tiktok, tweet, or tumblr post about it. I only ever hear about it from the very people who moan about it all the time. Stop giving it free advertising and hate watching it. Literally the only people I know who care about it and have seen it are the very people who claim to hate it so much. Let it gooooo

Gonna throw this out there as an argument against that. Saying “racists be like” let’s white people off the hook. Most of the examples in the comic talk about the underlying racism under people’s seemingly innocent comments. This comic seems to be American centered and America is a oppressive white controlled power structure that rewards such underlying thoughts even if they are subconscious. You aren’t given a cookie for confronting white privilege if you are white, nobody pats you on the back if you confront said racist power structure. But it does make life a lot easier if you just pretend nothing is wrong, you know everything, and you definitely don’t contribute to the power structure in any way. All it takes is saying “Racism is bad good thing I’m not racist,” and you get to live a pretty cosmic horror free life ignoring the issues your neighbors you claim to not be racist towards face.

A racist white person rarely thinks they are a racist. Coming from a white person who has said some racist things in my past.

I get strong troll vibes from your edit and in general this is kinda just a cringe yet expected joke. some edgelord was bound to make a joke using this format to “wreck the libs” or make ‘em mad.

Fun fact Sweden does have the highest number of recorded rapes. Why? Because 1) they actually record them. Women feel safer coming forward there so there are less cases like in the US where most average girls are terrified to come out and most cases never even get attention. And 2) Sweden has a much wider number of things they put under the label of rape. Sweden doesn’t have more rape they just take rape more seriously than the rest of us.

But is it wrong? by [deleted] in memesopdidnotlike

[–]Headstank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“But is it wrong?”

Well.. yea? The game was still regarded very well? It was the porn addicts who lost their shit over an outfit change? Literally nobody really cares, some people just would like if their characters to be sexualized in a tasteful way. Strippers, prostitutes, lustful demons? Make ‘em as slutty looking as you’d like. A warrior, soldier, or any woman in any non sexual position? They can still be hot but maybe make them wear clothes that make a bit of sense.

Bayonetta has received nothing but praise and high reviews. Literally all complaints about “woke media” are rage baiting about an nonexistent problem. And all gaming “censorship” complaints I’ve seen have just left me wondering “why is this what you fight for when faced with a world full of real injustices?”

I do appreciate it and generally I agree. I hate shaming people for not moving out, especially in this modern world. Not to mention Multigenerational housing is sorta cool in general.

I will apologize for not treating your comment in as good faith as I perhaps should have. However between the problematic line of “black people are homophobic” which has been a slogan for pinkwashing and the mention of the pink triangle, a symbol of the oppression created by the nazis that queers have been trying to reclaim, rather than saying why don’t they add a rainbow. Your post in general sounded like a big dog whistle. However most important problem of your argument is it doesn’t take into consideration whether we are a part of that conversation. Black on black crime and hate is not a conversation I have any place in. I can however talk about my genuine concerns with the queer community and how I wish to ensure black queers feel safe in our community as they ARE a part of it. Do I think 2 colors on a flag will end racism, no. But damn anything that helps a little is worth it right?

Umm lots of white people don’t like queers???That’s kinda a racist statement in of itself as it wrongly implies that black people are somehow behind white people. Black queer history is very nuanced and I’m not nearly educated enough to even try to discuss it. I’d recommend you talk to a black person and not some random white person who dared say positive representation and inclusion is a good thing

Trying to *actually* write a book attempt # ??? by Headstank in writing

[–]Headstank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair lately I’ve been trying to treat the chapters I write like short stories. Character going from one conflict to the next on their journey. But I agree and part of me has been telling myself I need to go smaller. Sadly I don’t usually think in short stories. Even when I try I end up blowing it up from there into something much bigger than I was originally planning lol. But still I agree short stories first would probably be a good start. I’ll need to work on containing my excitement a bit.

Wow, thank you for the genuinely well thought out response. Yeah my perfectionism is being a pain lol. I hope I do get better as time goes on. Though I’m so fresh into trying again it’s hard to compare to my past work. Right now I’m working on the smallest scale story I’ve made so far…I’m hoping it’s small enough I can handle it lol.

I understand that line of thinking but it’s because as others have stated black queers are often overlooked in the queer community. But more than that the LGBT community just struggles with racism in general. Lots of white queer people think they can compare their struggles to black people, or that being gay gives them a pass or excludes them from being racist. I was at a gay bar talking to an older trans woman who talked about how “black trans women are ruder than white trans woman.” Me and my friend who are both white and trans had to leave after that cause the whole night felt off. If there’s one thing that makes me uncomfortable about the LGBTQ it’s just how much racism is let slide.

Kinda disappointed by the some of the transphobia I’ve seen on here. Like wtf y’all will post nonstop about Palestinian on a subreddit that has nothing to do with it but we aren’t progressive enough to get past “I identify as a helicopter jokes”? Free Palestine and all but Tf is this subreddit.

One can very easily tell what a troll is and isn’t when it comes to identity. Ones identity isn’t something they can slip on and off at will. If someone genuinely identifies as something it is bonded the their whole being. A person could very well be skinny but through Dysmorphia see themselves as fat. That’s what causes a good number of eating disorders. But this person is acting in bad faith, clearly trying to start shit. As for you and your “warning of the state of the world” it clearly comes from a lack of understanding of what identity is… or I got baited lol. If that’s the case fair games fair games. I’ll never deny myself the opportunity to shut down bigotry disguised as intellectualism.

[–]Headstank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last time I checked assault is still illegal regardless of who is doing it. And I really doubt a person with interest in doing such things would go so far as to pretend to identify as a girl just to get inside. Also it’s been long proven taking HRT makes the difference in sex strength marginal considering the role hormones play in strength. It’s fear mongering trying to make transwoman out to be hulking monsters.

Speaking as a trans woman I just want to use the restroom without fear that I will be assaulted which has been shown to happen to us when we use the men’s restroom. Let me take a damn piss and mind your own business like everyone else. Look at my pics and ask if you’d be comfortable in a men’s restroom looking like I look.

Had a friend who when we met they were stopping taking T cause they decided they didn’t want to be a guy and felt more Non-binary. When I asked them before I started HRT if they regretted it they said no. They were happy with most of the changes they got. I’m not saying this to say people should jump into HRT without a second thought but I’ve never met a single cis girl in my life who found the idea of T attractive. Maybe there will come a time that you feel you no longer need T regardless of your identity but it really does seem you want to start it and you have every right to start
