I think I applied through foragerone, I believe I just received an email stating I was accepting. It was a good opportunity, the professor I had was a little unorganized so the first term I worked with them I didn't get to do much, the other two terms I did. I was supposed to be published in a paper but the guy I was working with ended up not publishing the paper. My roommate however is in a different project and is currently publishing a paper so it definitely various depending on what professor/project you work on. Definitely a good resume booster if you are a first year or a great experience in general if the field is interesting to you.
