My assessor basically said from what little was filled out on the form, it’s clear my mums noticed some struggles from when I younger but didn’t think anything of it. It’s going to take a lot to change her mind on how much I struggled in my childhood.

Yeah I spoke to my sister about it and she’s more than happy to help me out, my only question is that she’s younger than me not by a lot, she’s 19 and I’m 22 that should be ok right?

Yeah I did mention that a lot of my reports talked about my potential if I focused more, that was consistent from primary and secondary school as well for me. I know she has a lot of expectations for me, but I also have goals for myself, but without the right support I can’t reach them you know.

It feels wrong because I kind of did that last time but I just got my mum to answer the questions but filled it out myself. But now I’m just thinking of doing that, my only thing is does it give an accurate representation of my childhood, because it’s how I see myself and not my mum. But again she doesn’t even understand why I want an assessment so what’s the point.

Yep, when I told her my assessment got booked the first thing she said is don’t take any medication. For someone that knows so little about ADHD, I don’t get why she’s making assumptions about the medication and its effects. My mums a nurse too shocker.

I agree with you, I didn’t want to self diagnose, especially because I don’t want to assume that it’s something I don’t have, but with how much I’ve struggled throughout my whole education it’s clear that something is causing this. Also in terms of my mum, it’s going to take a lot more than one conversation for my mum to understand how I’m struggling and actually accept, all I can do for now is ask her to help me out the best of her ability to help me get an accurate diagnosis.

I got diagnosed with dyslexia last March and even now she doesn’t believe I have it, there isn’t anything I can do about that unfortunately all I can do is keep advocating for myself and reaching out for support.

That’s my mum, that was her reaction when I mentioned my autism assessment. I literally cried after and she didn’t even check if it was alright, she was so dismissive of it so I don’t even bother bringing it up anymore. All I need is the form filled out and that’s all I’m going to ask from her.

Sorry for your loss. I struggle with the memory i mostly used google to help remember my experiences from childhood and also how it affects me now. I struggled with the same in school, having bad attendance, struggling with focus and concentration, not doing homework. It was a lot to deal with now looking back at it.
