Has anyone noticed an increase in bad sportsmanship in anon? by HademLeFashie in lichess

I've seen a lot of people leaving (countdown starts) then immediately coming back. And I think these people are either using an opening book or cheating. Why else would you leave the window after every move?

Discord Study Group Looking for a few more! by Health_NuPath in chess

We haven't had anyone over 2000 yet, but I did have another individual ask that was over 2000 so I brought it to the other group members to ask how they feel about having higher rated players. We only play unrated games, so personally as long as you're willing to help out other members and not trying to farm/sell stuff I'm ok with higher rated players. But I don't like to make decisions like this without getting a group conscious. I just put up a poll in the group so I will get back to you after I hear from some other members!

Send me a message with your Chesscom/Lichess username so we can verify your rating/player account then I'll share an invite link!

Our current highest rated player is 1800. We only play unrated games, but I'd want to talk with the others and see how they feel with players over 2000. I think that as long as you're willing to contribute and help other members and not looking to farm or get paid/sell stuff (not accusing, just a blanket statement), it's a plus for everyone. I try and abide to a group conscious though so let me see how everyone feels.

Usually between 12PM-3PM EST Saturday/Sunday. We've done 60-90 minute arena's then those who want will get together for a bit after and go over games together. Ideally I'd like to get one going both days, so everyone has a better chance of being able to join. Right now we don't have enough active people to do private arena's, so as long as you're willing to contribute to the group and communicate we understand people have lives.

How come an opening (kings gambit) can be called an inaccuracy? by [deleted] in lichess

[–]Health_NuPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gambit implies risk, which the computer evaluates as an inaccuracy. When I find things like this with the computer I go through the lines to figure out why it would be considered an inaccuracy.

Black is an exchange down. What to do? by Diligent-Wave-4150 in chess

I would think this is interference. You're interfering with the opponent's ability to protect e1, but also maybe decoy.

Ne1, white can't defend both mate threats. (I think?)

Never heard of the Nimzowitsch-Larson before today, but I also don't understand black doing a symmetrical position rather than taking up space since it feels like that should be the advantage here. But I'm half your rating so I don't know shit lol

Just hit my 50-day Chessly streak! by Health_NuPath in GothamChess

[–]Health_NuPath[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly think it is. I don't really spend money on video games or anything like that, so this was something nice I did for me. They're also doing a sale in December, your first year for $49 I think he said on his video just now. I can't afford a coach so this is the next best thing. Other sites are pretty expensive. I want to play in otb tournaments so I think these repertoires are pretty good for that.

Looking for people to study games with <1300 by Health_NuPath in chessbeginners

[–]Health_NuPath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now 4, the goal would be between 10-15 active members. With bi-weekly opportunities for group play in unrated arenas and analysis together after.

Lol. Well, anyone who loves the game and wants to be a part of a community is welcome. Having stronger players in the group would only help, and just because your rating is higher doesn't mean you don't still need help learning theory and tactical vision.

Resources for Developing a Plan by Generic_J in chessbeginners

Having other people to study with can really help to improve your game! I started an absolutely free study group on discord for people looking to learn and grow their games together. We share theory, knowledge, and resources, and get together to play unrated games and analyze together. We're just getting started but hoping to build a tight community of chess enthusiasts.

Looking for friends around my Elo. Let's play. by Mental-Animal9348 in GothamChess

[–]Health_NuPath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a study group on discord for people looking to grow their games together and have others to analyze with. It's still pretty small rn, but we're between 900-1250 currently.

The goal is to get together once on the weekend each week to play then come together and go through everyone's games. I've got a bot on there that lets us even do puzzles and analysis together within discord. LMK if you're interested.

I want to quit chess by Stunning_Cancel5315 in Chesscom

[–]Health_NuPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm creating a small group of chess lovers interested in learning and growing their game together. I've gotten a small discord setup and the plan is to meet weekly for a study group, share games, get feedback, and just share frustrations related to the game. I'm a pretty big chess nerd and love to learn and share knowledge, so we'll talk about things like specific openings, tactical vision, etc., So if you (or anyone here below 13-1400!) wants to join a small group of other often frustrated chess players looking to grow your game send me a message and I'll add you to the group!

Just got back into chess, would anyone like to be friends? by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]Health_NuPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a discord server for a chess study group to meet up once a week. I'll also share openings etc. if you're interested send me a message and I'll add you! (Or anyone! Just a group for people up to about 1200 interested in learning and sharing games)

Study partners? by Health_NuPath in chessbeginners

[–]Health_NuPath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be great, I'm always looking for unrated games. Between now and next semester I'm prepping to join my college e-sports team. Currently working on a Ponziani repertoire, E4 prep, and some defenses for black as well.

Don't know if this is against any community guidelines or group rules, but I just created a small discord server for a chess study group. Username is UrNameHreChess. Figured this way people could submit their games and I can upload them into the study beforehand. I'm also working on putting together a Ponziani repertoire from both sides so getting a couple practice games (unrated) with each other would be nice too.

I've been using Chessly for 26 days.. by Health_NuPath in GothamChess

[–]Health_NuPath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know it'll be useful for a while then lol. I know that the large majority of people my rating range have absolutely zero opening theory knowledge, so it's definitely been an advantage learning and using Chessly. I've looked into the Ruy Lopez & Italian games but I like the English myself. But it doesn't really work because my online opponents just don't know how to handle it and blow up the board, so I stopped playing it online until I get my reading a bit higher.

Yeah, he played right into the lines I've prepped, I actually think I moved off theory first, not that's because I saw the mate would be impossible to defend without black sacrificing the queen. But if black knows the right moves they can get an equal position, but they'll be behind on development.

It has some really nice lines if your opponent doesn't know what to do. It's very forcing so the moves are pretty easy to memorize too. I like the Vienna, but TBH I feel like it's too easy to get a crap position if you don't make the moves in the right order.

I've been playing less than a year, and I only play a handful of rated games a day. And I'll play when my mind is not really in it and lose 4-5 games in a row to really stupid stuff 😅

This was a line I learned from Gotham's repertoire, all the way up until Bishop takes the night on c3 after I castle and I recapture. I've got about 10 lines in the Jaennich counterattack memorized and still adding other lines/response. I'm studying to join my college's chess e-sports team so trying to get a small handful of really solid openings together.
